Well, a couple of years ago I would have laughed at the idea of Fords and Holdens becoming involved with drift. When a certain high powered Holden ute showed up at a DriftZone day I even argued with its owner that drift was for turbo cars, not V8's. Roll forward to now and things have changed. SEVS/RAWS is making it harder every day to get anything new in from Japan. Ford has released the XR6T and Typhoon and even HSV is starting to concentrate on turbo cars. Things change, drift is continuing to grow at a staggering rate in Australia and its time that we started making drift a part of Australian motorsport culture instead of just another Japanese copy. People want to be able to look out to the driveway at their production car and then see it on telly, or better yet, take it to the track themselves. This has always been the biggest appeal of drifting - its affordability for everyone to get out and give it a try. Of course a stock BA or SS isnt going to go up too well against Robbie or Jerome but neither would a stock Silvia or Skyline. Now, finally getting to my point...... DriftZone wants Fords and Holdens. We want imports too, drifting is nothing without them and its where drifting started, but if drift is going to keep growing in Australia, we need to realise that Fords and Holdens have a place in drift as well. To this end, DriftZone is in the VERY early stages of considering a Ford vs Holden drift challenge. MOTUL oils (one of our major supporters) has shown a great deal of interest in this and we're trying now to get some feedback from everyone. I'm not talking about "Mr Blown Torana" coming out on his cheese-cutters and ripping a fuli sik skid, I'm talking about XR6's, XR8s, SS's, Clubsports, VL's, EA's etc. getting out on the track and really drifting. And if they cant drift, we'll have professionals on hand to teach them the difference between power oversteer out of a corner and drifting. So, without turning this thread into a "V8 vs import" or "I hate Robbie" shit fight, we'd love to hear everyone idea's on this. Just make sure they're constructive or dont bother hitting "Submit". -------------------- Visit DriftZone, Queenslands premier drift club. Visit DriftSpace, On the edge, Off the streets. to do what Tony or Robbie do it seams you just carnt do it in an import or others would be doing it . so i see it as a good thing to involve such huge horsepower cars . but however the visual appeal of those kitted up imports is awsum seeing the smooth drift lines they carry is first class , its good to see both styles of drift |

Ever since i went out to a driftday as a spectator bout 2 yrs ago and one other spectator was there, we had a chat about drifting ( as you do) and just so happens he owned a 5ltr Vn commodore (Im sure some of you can recall the vehicle) I never thought of Holden or Fords or v8's for that matter as much as a drifting vehicle. |

Well Cam, you know how i feel about this mate, i personally think if we want drifting to become a much bigger player, we need to welcome in aussie cars because, and winge and moan about it as much as you like, they are an extremely popular car, and australia really is a V8 country.... Its good seeing 50-Man and Robbie out there for the V8 guys, and hopefully we get more and more of them out there.... Im sure the import guys and the aussie guys can play nice together, because in the end we all want the same thing... |

i do agree with trying to get a more diverse range of cars in to drifting but what about a muscle v import battle instead of holden v ford it might get a wider range of people to watch it if the like muscle plus you would get people that like the imports |
