Motec M800 with all options would be the best, around 25k for the lot.

wat type of car?

STR8E180

for wat engine?

MoTeC M800 is the best computer on the market rite now but comes with a price

APEXi POWER FC is a very good computer being one of the best aftermarket plug and play computers out

it also comes in a D jetro version which runs on a map sensor so no air flow meter for ppl like me who hate air flow meters

it realli comes down to wat engine u got so ur going to have to leave more detail when ur making threads

We're going to need more info. This is like asking how long is a peice of string.

What car is this for?
What engine?
What do you plan to do with the car? (track car, daily driver, world rally?)

When you say "the best" - do you mean "Look bro....aftermarket ECU bro...pulls chicks bro...uleh!"

Or do you mean the best in terms of functionality, controls, tuning points?

Or do you mean the best in terms of easiest to tune, best bang for buck?

What do you need the ECU to control? Will you be using auxillary injectors, nitrous, water injection etc? Or will you just have a pod filter and an exhaust?

You need to be a lot more specific, and provide as much information as you can.

for a street car, I reckon a Autronic SMC with autotune (just dont get the autronic sensor/Wide band setup) would be perfect. Bloody awesome things they are.

Looking at around 3.5k for the setup installed.

Twice as long as half its length smile.gif

Motec M800 if money is no object, more details including budget would be great.

Microtech's do have a number of distinct problems. Not the best from a street oriented/reliability point of view.

Wolf 3D is a good system as with autronic, as they represent a perfect compromise between on street functionaliy and on track performance.

However, depending on your application I would strongly recommend a apex'i power FC.

Altenatley have you considered getting your stock computer re written or ivesting a a piggyback system such as UNICHIP or GREDDY E-Manage as these are excellent budget options.

PowerFC would be my choice...specially if it's for the Commodore Wagon in his avatar tongue.gif

I'd agree with this, i run an SM4 in my car, and it drives like a 'normal' car would.

At 25k you're missing a few options there.

I don't suppose anyone's upset that AU's as well as BA falcons have have their entire computers repmapped and run 3 different tunes in the flash tuners?
I know it's no substitute for a motec or wolf setup, but I can now modify trans shift points, limiters, and everything else they do at the factory.

Thank's for your input so far...

oH YEAH i forgot the biggest thing. 1UZFE, quad cam, V8 Soarer motor. going into a holden rodeo (conversion), the truck is on air suspension and has no inner guards in the front so little to no wiring is essential...

It will be a regularly driven/show car...

All I really want from the ECU is:

- As little wiring as possible....

- Being able to tune right with these mod's
- Bosch external fuel pumps, cam's, headwork, extractors, exhaust, induction, and few other basic things... and a 50 shot of Nos that will be hooked up but pretty much never used...

PS: I was looking at microtech 'T16 ECU' but I don't know how much they are worth.

I only really want something basic and some what tunable, that eliminates all that messy wiring, I am not looking for a racing car management system or bullshit system that i will never use to it's capabilities...

the main question is: is it still auto? If so, unichip. If manual: any of the above mentioned are fine.

LT series.

should be able to get away with an LT8 given it's capable of running an 8 cylinder car.

Cheap, cheerful, but they don't get much simpler this side of a carbie.

Depends on the tune!!! The best, smartest, most functional ecu is useless without the right tune.

But to answer the question...Autronic all the way. Running SMD PnP and couldn't be happier.

Yeah if your looking for El cheapo ECU for a show/fun car, cant really go past a WELL TUNED microtech.

WELL TUNED is the "key", i have a few mates that daily drive Microtech ECU'd cars and have no issues what-so-ever.

(and PITS on the Gold Coast is the "Key").
