See photos here...

Quite possibly the fastest road car ever made... this thing is insane! Apparantly 100 have been sold worldwide. CAPABLE OF 450kmph!!!!

This gargantuan 8.0-litre W16 has four valves per cylinder - for a total of 64 valves - and together with a supremely sophisticated forced induction system, it belts out 1001 horsepower, or 736kW @ 6000rpm.

Just to put that in perspective, the Veyron generates more power than four of Subaru's potent WRXs put together.

Made of aluminium and magnesium (to keep weight down), the 7993cc W16 powerplant has four turbochargers and four camshafts, one for each bank of four cylinders respectively.

With a 9.0:1 compression ratio and variable valve timing, the quad-turbo system helps boost the car's low end, while providing a fatter torque curve at the same time: 1250Nm of torque @ 2200-5500rpm. The closest any other production car comes to this staggering figure is Mercedes' CL 65 AMG, which pumps out 1000Nm from its 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12.

The new Bugatti is fitted with a brand-spanking new 7-speed semi-manual transmission, which is operated by paddle shifters located behind the tanned leather steering wheel. On average, the twin-clutch system takes just 0.2 seconds to change gears, which is quicker (on average) than a traditional manual.

In the real world, this 736kW and 1250Nm combines with the 7-speed, all-wheel drive transmission and a 1600kg kerb weight to propel the Bugatti Veyron to 100km/h from rest in 2.9 seconds. That's very quick.

If that isn't enough, the four-wheel drive chunk of exotica will hit 300km/h in 14.0 seconds flat and can cruise at 400km/h with ease. The car is electronically limited to 400km/h (248 mph), though if de-restricted the 8.0-litre coupe would be capable of at least 450km/h, perhaps more if the final-drive ratio and fuel-injection mapping was tweeked.

While the Koenigsegg and the VW W16 and Bugatti Veyron (before anyone adds that) are all exceptional cars they have already been covered in many threads in forums.

What I originally set this thread up was for cars which have been modified by independant tuners around the world, hence the name ..

the gods of MODIFICATION

Factory's have the all sorts of devices and testing facilities to take their cars through, where the humble tuner has to work things out for themselves most the time.

This is really a thread in finding 'gems' and not so much the common cars which are made by manufactures and are known as being quick cars.

During the project, the team slept for a total of 14 to 18 hours. The minute they opened up the drag strip for the event, the car just completed its first dyno run. "We literally had 4 dyno runs from the time we started it, burped it, and broke in the motor, to the time we took it to the track, and that’s it.” Results from the dyno showed the NSX producing an incredible 757 whp at 600 ft-lbs of torque. The first pass at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway was a 11.2 @ 148 mph with the clutch slipping through 3rd and 4th gear. “We turned down the boost to 15 lbs and launched it a little harder. Now that’s when we got the good numbers.” The team hit a 10.67 @ 136 mph with the clutch still slipping.

In 2000 Nizpro built a short run homologation special intent on competing in Nations Cup racing. The vehicle known as the Nissan 200 SX-R initially met the homologation requirements set by PROCAR, however on realising its sheer speed, PROCAR reneged and changed the rules.

11 X 200 SX-R’s were built, all with full ADR compliance and EPA Emission standards. Nizpro still owns one of these vehicles and to this day it remains fully road legal. That said, the car which is equipped with a full data logged MoTeC, (hence all the following figures can be verified) achieves 288 km/h on Philip Island’s front straight, 280 km/h on the back straight at Sandown and the list goes on. Indeed, the actual top speed is in excess of 300 km/h.

Since being banned from inclusion in Nations Cup, the company owned vehicle has competed in Marque Sports where on its debut set the Marque Sports lap record at PI, and it also circulates Sandown’s high speed track in 1:18 on treaded tyres.

If this isn’t enough, in ‘stock trim’ (EPA and ADR compliant), the vehicle has achieved an 11.2 @ 128mph over the quarter mile on road tyres.

Mercedes CLK DTM AMG

Type: Supercharged V8
Displacement: 5439 cc
Horsepower: 582 bhp @ 6100 rpm
Torque: 590 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm
Redline: 7000 rpm
Curb Weight: 3850 lbs
Layout: Front-Engine/RWD
Transmission: 5-Speed Auto

The scene under the bonnet of the CLK DTM AMG is no less impressive. Eight cylin-ders, 5.5-litre displacement, a supercharger with low-temperature charge air cooling and numerous components which have honed their talents on the race-track make this a quite breathtaking creation in both style and substance. Developing output of 582 hp and peak torque of 590 lb-ft at 3500 rpm, the AMG V8 supercharged power unit speaks the language of the super sports car elite. Its torque development is particularly outstanding, with 690 Newton metres of pulling power on tap as low down as 2000 revolutions per minute and the 554 lb-ft mark reached and breached just 500 rpm further around the dial.

And the CLK DTM AMG has a bite to match its bark, powering from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.8 seconds and 0 to 124 mph in just 10.9 seconds. The sprint from 60 to 120 km/h is over in 3.8 seconds and maximum speed is electronically limited to 186 mph.

Brabus SLR McLaren

Type: Supercharged V8
Displacement: 5439 cc
Horsepower: 660 bhp @ 6500 rpm

In BRABUS Racing version with performance-improving fuel cooling, custom camshafts and an open racing exhausts system maximum power output of the supercharged V8 engine increases to 660 hp 6500 rpm. The exhaust system is not certified for use on public roads. Thus equipped the SLR storms to 60 mph from rest in just 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 211 mph.

The multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock VI 20-inch light-alloy wheels with six double spokes command immediate attention. The fully polished wheels in size 9.5Jx20 in front and in size 11.5Jx20 on the rear axle fill out the available space below the wheel arches perfectly.

BRABUS chose high-performance tires in sizes 255/30 ZR 20 and 305/25 ZR 20 as the optimal solution. The conversion to the BRABUS 20-inch tire/wheel combination gives the Mercedes- Benz SLR McLaren even more dynamic handling prowess.

The BRABUS super sports car sells for 600,000 Euros. Included in the price is the SLR's air- freight shipment to anywhere in the world.

And to stay totally away from Japan again..............

2004 Kleemann CL60

Type: Biturbo V12
Displacement: 5513 cc
Horsepower: 627 bhp @ 5800 rpm
Torque: 769 lb-ft @ 2000 rpm

The Mercedes-Benz CL 600 set new standards of what to aspect from a luxury coupe. The CL 600’s Bi-Turbo 12-cylinder engine produces 500 hp and 590 lbs/ft in standard trim. Kleemann increases the power to 627 hp and the torque 769 lb-ft by reprogramming the engine ECU. The turbocharged V12-engine is also fitted with a low back pressure stainless-steel exhaust system with two Trapezoid-shaped tailpipes to improve engine breathing. To minimize wheel spin the car is fitted with the Kleemann LSD locking differential.

Performance is absolutely breathtaking. From a standstill to 60 mph in only 4.1 seconds and after 11.8 seconds you have arrived at 124 mph. The top speed is electronically limited to 186 mph.

Another important customizing feature on the CL is the two-piece TM5 or the three-piece forged TS6 Kleemann light alloy wheels, which can be mounted on the coupe in the sizes 18-, 19- and 20-inch diameters. The largest possible combination on the CL is the KLEEMANN TS6 alloy wheel in size 9,5JX20 for the front axle with 245/35 ZR 20 tires, and 11JX20 with 285/30 ZR 20 tires on the rear.

The safety aspect of a high performance coupe like the Kleemann CL 60 is the Kleemann high performance brake system, which easily handles even the most extreme braking tasks. The Kleemann brake system features 396 x 36 mm vented and cross-drilled discs with six piston calipers in the front, and 342 x 28 mm vented and cross-drilled discs with four piston calipers in the rear.

Displacement: 5997 cc
Horsepower: 605 bhp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 538 lb-ft @ 5200 rpm
Layout: Front-Engine/RWD
Transmission: 6-Speed Sequential

After two years of the 575 GTC competing in FIA GT, the Ferrari Corse Clienti department made changes to the original version with the collaboration of the technical GT head, Maurizio Nardon. The aerodynamics were completely revised with the addition of a new splitter and air intake on the modified bonnet. These changes improve internal air flow. The engine has been totally redesigned and, together with the new cooling tank, resulted in greater power and better handling. The current torque curve guarantees improved power management and the work on the steering column means that the new car is easier to point into curves and performs more smoothly when in them.

Opera DESIGN Tuning for the SL Roadster

Gullwing doors and tuning up to 718 hp / 528 kW and 1,120 Nm

Gullwing doors and engine tuning up to 718 hp / 528 kW maximum power and 1,120 Nm of maximum torque: Opera DESIGN turns the current Mercedes SL roadster into one of the world's most spectacular and most powerful sportscars.

Opera DESIGN developed a gullwing door conversion for the open Mercedes which doesn't only fascinate with its extraordinary design but especially with its reasoned construction.

During the conversion the car's body front end and the windshield frame are reinforced. In addition the aluminium doors of the SL are modified to make them swing upwards to the front on stainless steel hinges, which are fixed above the Opera DESIGN sport side mirrors. The gullwing doors give the two-seater car an extremely spectacular look.

In opened position the Opera DESIGN gullwing doors get supported by gas pressure shock absorbers. Nevertheless the doors can be easily opened from inside and outside. In addition the construction allows the subsequent use of the standard door locks. As a result the doors close as precisely as on the standard car no matter whether the retractable hardtop is opened or closed. The Opera DESIGN gullwing door conversion is available for all Mercedes SL models of the R 230 range.

To live up to the exciting gullwing door design, Opera DESIGN provides performance tuning for all motorizations of the Mercedes SL-Class. There is a wide range to choose from: The SL 350 can be powered up from standard 245 hp / 180 kW to 300 hp / 220 kW at 6,200 rpm with the Opera DESIGN OP 350 SPORTKIT.

The normally aspirated V8 engine of the SL 500 can be tuned up in different stages. The program contains the Opera DESIGN OP 330 and OP 360 performance kits and three different increased- capacity engines in all up to the Opera DESIGN OP 60 engine with 420 hp / 309 kW and a maximum torque of 620 Nm at 2,950 rpm only. After the conversion the two-seater car accelerates in 5.2 seconds from 0 - 100 km/h and is 296 km/h fast.

The V8 supercharger engine of the SL 55 can be powered up to 560 hp / 412 kW with the Opera DESIGN OP 560 SPORTKIT. Alternatively available is the Opera DESIGN OP 58 K increased capacity engine, which delivers 620 hp / 456 kW and 800 Nm of maximum torque. With it the sprint from 0 – 100 km/h only takes 4.2 seconds. After 12.2 seconds the roadster is 200 km/h fast. Maximum speed is electronically restricted to 320 km/h.

Extra power is of course also available for the SL 600 top-of-the-line model: The Opera DESIGN OP 610 SPORTKIT tunes up the V12 twin turbo engine to 610 hp / 448 kW and 980 Nm of maximum torque.

Ultimate power is provided by the Opera DESIGN OP 60 BT increased-capacity engine. A special crankshaft and bigger pistons increases the displacement to 5,921 cm³. In addition the cylinder- heads and combustion chambers get modified and sport camshafts are installed. Above and beyond the Opera DESIGN OP 60 BT engine is armed with bigger turbochargers, a likewise larger intercooler and a high performance exhaust system including metal-bed catalysts.

The performance data of the engine and the road performances of the car are a class of its own: With a maximum power of 718 hp / 528 kW and a maximum torque of 1,120 Nm, which is electronically limited to 1,000 Nm out of consideration for the power transmission, the V12 Biturbo roadster from Opera DESIGN catapults in 3.9 seconds from 0 – 100 km/h, in 11.2 seconds from 0 - 200 km/h and in 23.9 seconds from 0 – 300 km/h. Maximum speed is 340 km/h.

Vibrant sound is the forte of the Opera DESIGN sport exhaust system with four tailpipes, which is available in different versions for all SL models. For the V8 of the SL 500 there are also available stainless steel exhaust manifolds.

In addition Opera DESIGN gives the roadster a purebred Grand Prix look for the road: Opera DESIGN has put particular emphasis on design elements which originate from Grand Prix sports.

The Opera DESIGN front spoiler, which is fixed on the standard bumper of the SL, doesn't only give the face of the two-door car even more striking features: Its twin wing profile also minimizes the lift on the front axle at high speeds.

The SL looks more stretched and lower with the Opera DESIGN side skirts which have integrated aluminium fins as a special design feature. The retractable hardtop of the SL can be upgraded with the Opera DESIGN clear-coated Carbon roof skin which gives the car even more racing flair.

The back of the SL can be upgraded with the Opera DESIGN rear panel with integrated diffuser and the discreet Opera DESIGN rear wing which spans over the trunk lid. These components were also designed to realize an optimal symbiosis from sporty styling and aerodynamic function.

The multi-piece Opera DESIGN OP5 light alloy wheels are available for all SL-Class models. The five-spoke wheels with highly polished outside wells can be fitted in the dimensions 9Jx20 front and 11Jx20 on the rear axle. The combination 255/30 ZR 20 and 315/25 ZR 20 was tested out to be the optimal combination for the new SL.

To lower the SL 350 about 35 millimeters, Opera DESIGN offers progressive sport springs. The ABC suspension of the bigger models can be modified with the Opera DESIGN electronic module, which lowers the bodywork up to 30 millimeters at the touch of a button.

Opera DESIGN provides exclusive accessories for the SL cockpit like an ergonomically designed airbag-sport-steering-wheel just like individual leather trims in biggest color variety.

**Sorry for the long post probably one of if not THE number one favourite car for me of all time... so fukn hot, and so fast.... perfection.
