Post #1 post 10th November 2005 - 09:33 PM
Recently I was blown away by the performance/styling package of the "HKS BNR34 Driving Performer", and thought it would be an idea to make a thread about impressive modified street cars.

This thread is setup as a reference to exceptional modified STREET cars and places where you can find information about them.

Don't bother posting up pcitures and info of cars with dirty big drag slicks, or race slicks on them.

I'm only interested in looking at modified street cars that have a balance of performance and styling and that still retain all the driveability a street car should have.

The car can be any make or model so long as they have something special which sets them apart from others or are a custom one off, but should have a balance of all aspects of modifying.

Another car that sprung to my mind while I was thinking about this thread was by legendary American Hotrod builder Steve Moal.

Zausner Torpedo Roadster

How does a built-from-scratch hot rod with a 5.5 liter, 485 horsepower Ferrari V-12 grab you? Draped in aluminum bodywork still dripping from the classic Alfa + Touring gene pool, with an interior of ostrich hides and precision, machined controls. Craftsman Steve Moal and patron Eric Zausner did it, and they call it the Torpedo.

Thats right ... Eric Zausner decided building your 'typical' Hot Rod was just too easy and common. He wanted one styled like a classic Ferrari, but with the power of a modern one, so he commissioned Steve Moal to build this little gem thumbsup.gif

Does the Maybach Exelero count?

The 700-hp two-seater with a V-12 biturbo engine is a unique custom model that should be included Id say. This car can do over 350kph on its 23inch wheels, can get to 100kph in just a tad over 4 seconds, not bad for something that weighs over 2.6 tonne.

Something modified ... Something customised ... something stupidly powerful facesjump.gif

Feel free to post, as I'm usually got my head stuck into Japanese cars I thought it would be good to expand on other unique cars that get built around the world. smile.gif

And then there's Brabus S V12 Biturbo............

730 hp / 537 kW at 5,100 rpm and a peak torque of 1,320 Nm, electronically limited to 1,100 Nm

The BRABUS S V12 S Biturbo engine offers truly impressive performance: In the 600 models power output jumps from standard 500 hp / 368 kW at 5,000 U/rpm to 730 hp / 537 kW at just 5,100 rpm. At the same time peak torque grows from 800 Nm to 1,320 Nm from a low 2,100 rpm. Custom-calibrated mapping of the engine electronics limits peak torque to 1.100 Nm.

Performance of a Mercedes 600 model with BRABUS S V12 S Biturbo displacement engine is correspondingly exceptional, as in the example of an SL Roadsters powered by this engine: 0 - 100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds, 10.5 seconds to 200 km/h and 29.5 seconds to 300 km/h are top-notch figures as is the top speed which is electronically limited to 300, 320 or 350 km/h, depending on the selected final drive ratio and the speed-rating of the tires.

But what really sets this Scoot RX-7 apart form anything else on the road is it's custom built 4-rotor NA engine. Pushing out 400PS at 8,000rpm this little rotary can easily rev to 10,000rpm and has the most incredibly sharp throttle response, ever! It breathes through 4 separate throttle bodies and a custom carbon air box while a special exhaust system has been developed to quieten it down to acceptable levels. Out on the road this car sounds more like a high revving sports bike than a car and certainly gets a few looks.

Being from the United Kingdom and all, I thought I would post a picture of one of my most desired cars (much more than any Japanese Import). Personally I think the styling of European cars far outweighs those of the Japanese, however, although there's alot of competition, much respect for both styles.

Presenting:

V12 Vanquish

QUOTE
Aston Martin’s hand-built 6.0-litre V12 is renowned as one of the finest engines in the world: enormously powerful, smooth and beautiful. It can also lay claim to being the world’s best-sounding high performance car engine. In the Vanquish S, it reaches its zenith. Maximum power is 520 bhp (388 kW) at 7000 rpm, with maximum torque of 425 lb ft (577 Nm) at 5800 rpm.

Such power delivers sterling performance. Indeed, this is the fastest-ever road going Aston Martin. Top speed is more than 200 mph (321 km/h), the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) dash is accomplished in only 4.8 seconds while 0-100 mph (160 km/h) takes just 9.8 seconds. But it is the mid-range acceleration that is truly sensational; 50-70 mph (80-112 km/h) takes only 6.5 seconds in sixth gear. Overtaking is effortless.

It’s obviously not merely the tasteful aerodynamics kit or the subtle engine work that makes this particular Audi an amazing specimen. Created by German tuning shop and Audi specialist, Motoren Technik Mayer (MTM) for a client in Dubai, this MTM-tuned A8 also happens to be really really (really) shiny. The original paint was completely stripped to the metal (and plastic) using the finest-grained sandpaper this side of a baby’s bonnet. Then, the metal parts were polished to a high gloss, while the plastic parts were layered in a chrome-emulating series of paints and varnishes. Afterward, the 4.2-liter V8 was also tweaked to 450hp, a custom, ride-leveling suspension was installed and a set of really (really) shiny MTM rims were fitted. More pics after the jump.

Thats how you do it okay kids !!!

Supercars don't get more flamboyant than the Diablo. It's big, wide and sports a 530 PS 5.7 L V12. In fact this engine is one of the most emotional sounding V12s in existence! So it would be hard to understand why a car of this stature would not be enough to satisfy the needs of the most demanding drivers. Enter Mr. Kondou and his 1999 Lamborghini Diablo SV.

A beautiful example finished off in a fine metallic silver which is contrasted with the matte-black Neez magnesium racing wheels. You might already see a few little bits and pieces that are not standard fit, but hey this is Japan and people have always liked to personalize their cars. Step into the interior and again a there are a few little touches here and there...

You might spot the Motec dash logger which hints at a top of the line management system, understandable to want a bit more processing power in such a car.

Step around the back of the Diablo and you notice the engine cover is made of glossy carbon fiber...but wait, what is that under there?

Open the cover and this is what you are confronted with....

Holy Mother of ....!!! What the hell happened here??

Yes ladies and gentleman your eyes have not failed you, this is indeed a twin-turbo-charged 5.7 L V12 Diablo SV! Feast your eyes on what is one of the most impressive engine conversions I have ever seen. Unlike bolting on ready-made, easy to fit bits & pieces like a lot of tuners do [playing Lego as I like to refer to it wink.gif] everything you see here has been designed and built for this particular car, all custom. The massive KKK K27 turbine and Blitz wastegates have found a home behind the massive V12 where they compress the air up to 1.2 Bar and feed the twin top-mounted intercoolers, again all custom built. This engine bay is something you just can't stop looking at...

This thing puts out 1187 PS at the rear wheels and a tractor rivaling (it is a Lambo after all!) 128.8 kgm. For those of you that can't get their heads around the modern metric system that is 931 pounds for every one of those "feet" you still use wink.gif

Out on the road this thing is savage. I thought highly tuned GT-Rs were fast but this thing is just ridiculous. It can pull 368 km/h flat out and there is plenty left as it bounces off the limiter in 5th. More power is on the cards too with a slight increase of boost and a few more tweaks Mr. Kondou is shooting for 1,400 PS and 136 kgm. Crazy!

1187 PS at the wheels (wanting 1400 ps) now that Ladies and Gentlemen is the definative definition of BULLSHIT QUICK thumbsup.gif

GTRVspec95 - are we keeping this to 'modified' cars, or are we able to post stock production cars with high HP figures? i know the Aston I posted is like the best car ever, even without any mods. so i guess you decide?

This topic would be for cars made by Tuning Houses, like Nismo, Ralliart, etc. I guess. Even the best performing stock cars (Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche and the like) have been modded by tuning houses, example Porsche and RUF.

Hey sorry if this car has already been spoken of, but I just flicked through the thread and didn't see it and it's one of the best I believe... so....

The Koenigsegg CCR

"This car is an automobile made by Koenigsegg. Designed and manufactured in Sweden, it debuted at the 2004 Geneva Auto Show. The manufacturers claim that their car is the fastest road car in the world with a theoretical top speed of more than 385 km/h (240 mph). The car recently reached a top speed of 388 km/h (241 mph) and has broken the world speed record for a production car (the previous record holder was the McLaren F1). Not long after the CCR claimed the McLaren's record as its own the honor was give to the long awaited Bugatti Veyron which obliterated the previous record with a top speed of 400 km/h (248.5 mph).

Based on the Koenigsegg CC8S, the CCR is the top-end car produced by Koenigsegg. It retains all the features of the CC8S, and has a new side air intake design, a tweaked headlight arrangement, a revised rear, bigger-sized brakes, more power and new front splitters for optimized downforce.

The improved power engine was made possible by the use of a unique Swedish Lysholm twin-screw compressor and a new titanium exhaust system. This takes the power output to a maximum of 806 hp (601 kW) at 6,900 rpm. Torque is also distributed evenly, and peaks at 920 Nm (678 ft.lbf) at 5,700 rpm.

Final verion of CCR is equipped with twin Rotrex centrifugal compressors. Boost pressure has been increased from 1.2 bar to 1.4 bar. It shows same maximum power (806hp) at 7,000 rpm, same maximum torque (920 Nm) at 5,400 rpm. (Note: This information of performance is partially updated in their official page.)

To honour the Swedish Fighter Jet Squadron No. 1, which had occupied the current facility of Koenigsegg, the CCR is adorned with a symbol of a ghost. The ghost is the symbol of the squadron."

Once again sorry if this is a repeat, just think of me as an ass... smile.gif
