Hey Guys i was wondering if you could help me out??
What is the difference between a 1998 vl executive and all other makes of vl's?
What are the posatives and negatives of a 1988 HOLDEN COMMODORE VL Executive compared to the rest. I know calais are the best.

And what can i get done to them to increase peformance for cheap ? i also want to try and make it look as classy as possible as close to calais as i can, any help would be greatly apreciated, thanks.

The "Executive" VL is the second model range from the bottom. The model range is as follow from the bottom to the top:-

SL
Executive
Berlina
Calais
HDT
HSV

The Executive differed only over the SL as it had auto transmission as standard, plus power steering and air-con, HOWEVER the Executive could be ordered without those. The SL was manual only with no air-con or power steering. Berlina got the options of power windows and cruise control if the buyer wanted it, plus better interior trim including Tacho instrument panel which also included volts and oil pressure gauges. The Calais got all the fruit of everything that could open and close electrically, plus better interior trim, pop up head lights, side skits and lights in the engine bay.

There are many Calais conversion kits on the market today to make the front look Calais like. Other bodykits such as the HDT designs are available by looking here at www.hdt.com.au Some interior parts such as the double sized centre console storage box is now unavailable from Holden and would have to be sourced from the wreckers.

Power wise for upgrades, well there are many to say the least. These range from old carby V8's to the 304EFI V8, right up to the famous turbo version of the Nissan 6cyl. Some advice here would be to save and put in a turbo engine as there are so many combinations and upgrades avaialbe and they make an excellent street car plus weapon at the track. Site members such as "OSK" are those that have plenty experience in building both show quality and very powerful VL Calais. Sweet thanks alot!!! that clears things up a lot!!!!! So visual wise the sl, executive and berlina look exactly the same?

How much do you guys think i would need to spend to convert a 1988 vl executive into turbo? just a rough idea and also round about how much would it set me back to change the interior around to a calais interior??
