QUOTE(Fixxxer @ Jul 21 2005, 08:35 AM) The new lancers have 92KW from what I remember, so I dunno who said a 5KW difference before, but its actually 13KW and they weight around the same (1150kg for a N15SSS). More revs on board in a pulsar, they should cr@p all over lancers. I can't believe that mitubishi sell the VRX for so much, and you still get the pansy motor... poor form. Fixxxer ![]() Yer the SOHC 92kw isnt great but it does the job... Wait till your see the vr-x lancer with the 2.4l mivec thats due next year... my vrx is gunna cop that conversion for sure... ![]() |

QUOTE(Fixxxer @ Jul 21 2005, 08:35 AM) Most auto Commo's will do a 16.2-16.5 depending if they have a minor mod or not. I've seen pulsars stock, do around 16.5, with extractors/exhaust /filter do anywhere from 15.9+ and with a chip do anywhere from 15.5+ The new lancers have 92KW from what I remember, so I dunno who said a 5KW difference before, but its actually 13KW and they weight around the same (1150kg for a N15SSS). More revs on board in a pulsar, they should cr@p all over lancers. I can't believe that mitubishi sell the VRX for so much, and you still get the pansy motor... poor form. Fixxxer ![]() 2000 Lancer MR: 86KW, 990KG = 86.86 kw/tonne 2000 Pulsar SSS: 105KW, 1142KG = 91.94 kw/tonne Need any more evidence smart man? Power figures alone mean jack shit - otherwise Commodore should be crapping on my car from a great height but it hasn't happened that way before because the only ones keen for a go are tosser in auto 6 cyls. Also revs don't mean anything - it's power band and gearing. Lancers run out of puff after 5500 rpm, it's just wind and noise from then on, but they have nice pull from around 3000. SOHC engines typically have more torque than the equivalent DOHC engine, but I put it down to Mitsubishi's cheapness rather than actually designing the engine for more torque. By the way, if you want to compare the new Lancer to the new Pulsar, go for your life but there is no SSS Pulsar released today - and the new Lancer VRX is just a kitted up Lancer same as the MR - but at least you get 4 wheel discs this time.. Old Lancers are faster than the new ones. Nvious: My Lancer ran a 16.2 @ 85mph |

QUOTE(4_Down @ Jul 21 2005, 11:54 AM) The other day I was reading about a JDM pulsar that had a SV16DE (that is not the correct engine code I am sure, though it is similar) it has 140 kw and is apparently the most powerful N/A 1.6L that has come out Japan. Someone should look at importing this. rofl i think you mean sr16ve. the standard engine has about 129kw the n1 spec has 146. sr20ve has 139kw sr20ve 20v has 152kw Usual mods on the normal sr20ve will net around 130fwkw (ecu, headers, 3" exhaust etc). With n1 cam and springs you can get it around 150fwkw the car that has run 14.7 has slightly higher compression, tomei poncams, fujitsubo headers, 2.5" exhaust, advanced timing and an elcheapo pod. run was done on cheapo tyres. how do i know, i helped the guy build it, he is a close mate of mine. So dont tell me its bullshit. He is now getting headwork done and more agressive cams and going for low 14s. |

Listen, before you go sprouting all your "smart man" this and that, I clearly referred to the NEW lancers. Nowhere in your post do you refer to what model lancer you had. |

QUOTE(Kuz @ Jul 21 2005, 01:52 PM) Owned 2 N15 SSS's Series II and I have to say they have been the best 4 cyl's I have owned. The max torque figure may put you off but the SSS has a pretty damn flat torque curve. I remember a while back when I frequently read up on Pulsar Group of Aus forums that a member ran a 15.9 sec in a stock N15 SSS Series II. And many members have run mid to low 15's with the usual mods (full zaust, mod, advanced ignition timing). At one stage I was going to trade in my SSS for either a Clio Sport 172hp or a Pug 206 GTI180 but after the test drives I didnt see the point. Only real downside of a SSS compared to these hardcore euros is the handling. Speed-wise there is minimal differences. And how it is claimed a clio sport 172hp model (older one) can run a very low 15 out of factory and a every low 7 0-100m is very optimistic. In many reviews and mags testing (Motor, Wheels, etc) the new clio sport 182hp cup model can barely get it down to 15.4's. For the price and reliability a N14/N15 SSS is damn fine. But if ya cashed up stick to a euro hot hatch (clio sport, 206 gti 180, new golf gti, etc) ![]() The problem with most magazines is they are given "test vehicles" for use in their articles. A clio 182 F1 Gordini once ran in and a year old or so will easily beat the given figures listed in a mag. These vehicles are new and hardly ran in, the motors are still tight. Even the new Golf GTI or GTI 180 reviews wont be accurate. I strongly believe that all three hot hatches once opened up and the motors are well ran in are capable of high 14's even mid 14's down the 1/4. One good thing about the RSC 172/182 is the torque figure compared to the SSS, 200nm is heaps for a 2.0l engine. I've been up against 51EKA's Celica and the Clio is easily in front of the Celica nose to tail till the speeds rise but this is definatly after the 1/4 has past. Only mods i have done are exhaust, induction and chip. But like you say if you are cashed up and want a hot hatch, euro is the way to go, the quality is unbelievable. |

The RX would lose to both. Thats a guess (before anyone jumps down my throat) same power going to all 4 wheels will mean less power at the wheels |

Don't get cut because a grocery getter can beat this so called "hot hatch". I know that not all SSS's are the same, and I know that not all Lancers are the same, but if you want to get theoretical the SSS *should* beat the Lancer, but it's all driver and reaction. I did say that I have been beaten by SSS's before so please do us all a favour and shut up. I don't care about how fast your corvette is, the Corvette is an american sports car and the Lancer is a grocery getter, go pick on some skylines or something. Vote 1 ![]() |
