I’m enquiring about mod plates for my car, after the police decided to get me for a ridiculous amount of defects. head_wall.gif

So my questions are:

Who in Brisbane can do mod plates for cars?
What can go on a mod plate?
And how much are they roughly per mod you want to put on the plate?

Ill talk to you more about it on the phone... ill try n get his details organised today as I gave out the last card I had of his last week (typical).

Half of them are pretty easy to fix, and can be replaced with stock parts, just take all the stock shit off my car swap it onto yours, drive it into the shop, sign off on it, drive back swap it all back, n give me a big hug and a carton of bourbon..... maybe some lotion for the fucking blisters ill have and a new socket set coz mine will probably be broken due to overuse after we're done HAHAHAHAHHA tongue.gif

With such a well known car you'd be better off fixing it for good... otherwise you'll end up 6 months down the track having to do it again (and pay all the fines/points).

I'd be keen for his number as well, got a few tings that need looking at:

Engine, box, brakes, driveshafts, seats, fuel system, rollcage, intercooler, filter & exhaust.

I had a plate dont years ago but cant remember who did it.

22things ... wow thats got to be some knid of record

Half that stuff is simple, but also, how can you get defected for an aluminium bonnet, too big exhaust, and steering wheel.

Are these just queensland things? If the steering wheel thing was because it came out with an airbag, does it apply in queensland if there was a model without an airbag you don't need one?

Nah there have been a few people with a bit more than 22.. the officer said he could have found more, but he didnt want me to get my car towed! hahahahaha

Other places with numbers would be really good too!!

Yeah PSI99 - i agree with you, it seems that alot of people know my car.. and the police are getting to know it aswell..

Hence why i want to get a mod plate, i am going to fix most of it, besides the height. I am not having big high car! lol - I'm going to get the car lowerd a bit more and the chrome gauges will be staying. everything else will be getting fixed.

My bonnet hasn’t been tested and complied or something. So it hasn’t passed qld safety, as its an after market one.

hmm that a list and a half

the only things on there i would consider dangerous are

- momo steering wheel (im guessing it has no airbag)

- load ratio illegal on tyres

well why not get things approved befor eyou mod them ??? would of been a lot cheaper

`nigno
Post #18

Yeah your bonnet hasnt been ADR Crash tested, and therefore they dont know the safety of it for both pedestrians and ppl in your car if it were to be involved in an accident... they say the same about fibreglass bonnets and some carbon fibre ones depending on wher eyou purchase them from.

because i never throught about it, and i dont know about mod plates. hence why i started this thread.

Im not worried about the money, i just want to get it fixed.

all im asking is numbers and places of people who can do mod plates.

Thought I might post it for all your benefits, just PM'd Stace a list of what she CAN get mod plated by a certified engineer and what else she needs to do to fix the rest of the problems.

QUOTE
Ok Babe, I got a list of everything an Approved Engineer Can Certify or give youa  mod plate for (so basically if he says its ok they cant do shit if its on this list)

Engine Substitution
Turbocharger & SUpercharger Installation
Transmission Substitution
Rear Axel Replacement
Differential Substitution (Diff)
Brake System Substitution
Convertible and Cabriolet Conversion
Passenger Vehicle Extended Wheelbase Conversion
Individual and Low Volume Vehicles
Panel Van to Utility Conversion
Roll Bar and Roll Cage Installation
Street Rod Certification
Seating Capacity Alteration and Seat Belt Installation
Child Restraint Anchorage Installation
Motorbike Seating Capacity Alteration
Fuel Tank Alteration
Australian Design Rule Compliance (ADR) - ***your bonnet***
Pre 1972 Imported Vehicles Compliance
Personally Imported Vehicle COmpliance
Steering Conversion
Beaming & Torsional Testing

The mods that dont fall under that category have to comply with rules and guidelines outlined in this document:

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/LTASinf...ion_Jan05v2.pdf

But im pretty sure you can get an engineer to sign off on some of them as it explains about SPECIFIC mods at the end of that booklet.

Hope that helps a bit... your best bet is to take it to an engineer, he will sign off on what he can and tell u how to fix the other shit up.

Just a side note, ive had stuff that isnt on that list mod plated by an engineer, as there are a lot of sub categories and loop holes, basically so long as its structurally sound, safe and sorta complies with the rules (they can be bent) they will document it take photo's of it for future reference and in case they get checked up on and still give you the ok...

so once you have a mod plate say for all your mods you just show that to the police and the can do nothing ??? correct

Some of those things wont be covered by a mod plate.

Some of those are defects for a reason and must be changed not just approved, for eg chrome cups on bonnet are not allowed regardless of mod plate.

Mod plates are for modifications that need to be carried out or certified by engineers, ie ur seats can be mod plated

Hence the footnote of some of the things you'll have to change to abide by the rules n guidleines outlined in that booklet. eg. no guages that can squirt oil on your windscreen, nothing that will inhibit your view, or flash in the drivers eyes (chrome cups, pillar guages etc)

Thats just a very very rough guide as I said to Stacey anyone has dramas go to a fukn engineer they will tell you what you need to do its their friggen job !!!

Spot on !!!! Need to fix the actual defects first , then worry about a mod plate. It is that sort of bling blang car that is goingo attract attention , so make it legal and you wont have a problem .. Iknow you will never get away with the chme gauges on the bonnet , been there done that , and they have zero tolererance fro ignorance these days .. Ifeveryone checked out mods before carring them out we would all be better off cause the cops would know you have done it right .. A cop will have no time to listen to someone that has neons and chrome gauges , but cannot spend the time to do it properly . Untill this attitude changes we will all suffer at the hands of mr man!!

yeah, when my brother owned his 1600 he had a mod plate on it... po po asked him to open the bonnet, and the blue plate stuck out, they saw it, and told him to drive normally cause the car sticks out. we later found out the mod plate was a dud. but still, if you have a mod plate you'll be fine

No. Mod rating on the tyres is there for a reason as that is the most weight per tyre at x amount of pressure that that tyre can safely hold in everyday driving. Its a case of new tyres with a better load rating

It would prolly actually help if the department of transport and the police actually got of there asses and told people about what mods etc are acceptable, before they fine them. Yes I know theres the modficiations booklet and pdf file available, but that doesnt cover half the stuff that people normally get defects for. How is someone supposed to know whats wrong until they get pulled over and reamed?

Yes and no. Ive had arguments with the police numerous times over items on my mod plates and even had to go to court over some of them to get them cleared. Mod plate is definatly the safer way of doing things though, rather than drive around without one.................

The emphasis is on US to get up off OUR asses and go to an actual engineer for the proper direction . If the engineer says no .. dont do it ..If you do it without checking first dont winge about it when you get done..!! It is the easiest thing in the world to do , i am currently building a 1923 ford t-bucket ,, you want to see a mod list try and hand build a car some time. The bucket actually has a 24 page engineers report , and cost me $2300.00 to have done ,but at least i can drive it whenevr and wherever i want when its finished without worring about mr man.. These rules have been in place since the ark .. noah got authority , i see no reason why other people dont so it .

I Sedate looking – I hope you where not referring that towards me.

This is not a “Whinge” topic. If you think I am – please quote where you believe I am whinging about this. This is a question about mod plates,. I don’t really care that I got pulled over and all that, because yes I know my car is illegal!

I’m asking about mod plates, how much they are and who the hell does them!
I am quite aware probably none of my defects are going to go on that mod plate, but for future reference it is very hand to know.

Defects are getting fixed up next week – car has already been booked in, in a few places for things done.

I dont recall quating you anywhere .. so i gues that means its not directed at you .. Be careful about who you get the mod plate from too .. there are a few getting taken off now , cause the mods should not of been done .. Dont fall into the trap of .. "ï have a mate that does them" it will prove to be costly in the end.. dom and sam , did mine , and i have never had a problem with it . Dont ask here ,, ring transport department and get a number for an authorised engineer. If they are from there , no one will ever question it.

As I have previously said and I will re-iterate the fact... best bet is taking your car into a certified engineer (plenty to choose from) he will take a look at your car for nothing and if something shoul dbe mod plated or changed, he or she will let you know thumbsup.gif
