nah they're not legal if they are hooked up to your actual horn, if its a seperate switch then it should be ok?? I believe thats right
its illegal to have it on your normal horn, as its not for emergencys or somethin like that?

While we're at it

Is it legal not to have a functional horn?

Cause when I got my new Momo steering wheel a few months ago the horn was disconected.

From what iv heard, you have to have a horn, for emergencies, road rage, saying bye to your mates etc. once again, consulte DOT website, but im pretty sure you do have to have a horn wink.gif

I didnt know you needed a horn for road rage.

I might have to talk with the RTA on that one. wink.gif

unsure.gif Almost certain it is illegal, I'd get that fixed quick smart. How are you meant to warn somebody of an emergency situation if your horn doesn't work???

As for the air horn, sr20_det and roweysvn are winnah, from what I've heard. Seperate switch, should be fine. Just make sure the original horn works exactly the same as it does standard.

and it isn't that hard to wire it up with a separate switch. I just tapped into the wire that goes to the normal horn, crimped on a splitter and fed wire through the firewall, to a swtich, then back to the air horn.

just remember to turn it off. i forgot and while trying to give someone a "that was stupid" toot, i ended up giving them a "next time tossa i come and find your wife ancd kids" blast

First man to get it right. Illegal to use at any situation tho - unless at a private thing like a show or something.

Ive got a wolf whistle horn - itws hooked up throuh a seperate switch

im not sue of the legalities - im aware thaat you must hae a functional horn - for roadworthiness - so i guess it is safer to get hooked up seperatley to the standard horn - mine is just as loud as the normal horn - so not much difference

Cheers

i have a multi sound polyphonic horn and normal air horns and then one of the novelty air horns (all on seperate switches) but i was told u can have em and use em as long as ur not in like a built up area or on a busy road or wateva, when im at ute shows and stuff ive sounded em infront of cops and they've neva said anything so yeah, i think its one of those things that sum people say are legal and sum people will tell you they're not.

It is a defect to not have a horn...

and I know that even trucks with air horns still buy law have to have an electric horn, sounds funny when you see a massive Kenny going "beep beep" haha

so if they can have secondary air horns, why couldnt you have a secondary horn?

Your horn must be

1. Working (duh)
2. One continious note. IE, musical ones are a defect. Twin air horns, that just make one note, are ok.
3. Must be connected to your usual factory horn switch.

Dont let any copper book you for having a twin air horn hooked up, if its to your normal horn switch, i mean, whats wrong with that? its exactly the same as stock, if not louder anyway! Fight that one in court!

(jebus some cops are F*$%ing cockheads. No wonder lebos wanna bash em)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ spot on single note air horns are fine as your normal horn musical ones have to be on a seperate relay/ switch ..they are illegal to have as a hhhhooornn

well you musta let yourself be shafted. There is nothing to stop you having them in your car, you just can't use them on a public road.

Check your local Vehicle Standards rules. Last time I checked it said you must have a Horn "or other warning device" wink.gif

i spose your finger doesn't count ?

I want to buy a more manly horn for my car as it sounds like a holden barina.

I was thinking a super cheap air horn would work.

The dukes of hazzard had the best horn i think it's called "whistling dixie"
