I've just jumped on-line for a few minutes whilst having morning tea

Righto personally I don't think it would be a be a bad thing to have an idiot or two turn up because it would certainly show how against the stupidity we are. I wouldn't hesitate in handing that person his ass, as I'm sure everyone else wouldn't either. Gee I remember the night of my accident at Harry's when the entire crowd turned on that drunk lady so imagne how it would look if someone did act the f00l in front of the cameras. At least it would show we are sorting it out ourselves.

I'd let God decided whom he wanted representing BC, after it's his hard work that this site is here, same too with Pete & CB, as to Sheree and CT etc.

I'm ruling out a charity cruise, as I personally think it would look tacky. Just one massive cruise where we can all get together for lunch and have a great time like we always do in a large cruise. Not to mention the BWCP and esplanade etc too.

Thanks for the feedback/comments they are all great

Anywho time to get back to the grindstone smile.gif

Is it possible to have 2 events to be filmed? If so, I would do a smaller one with some intelligent people who own legally modified cars to interview and then a larger one that can show how many of us there really is.

Is this an option?

How about an undercover reporter to cruise around with the group or someone at the next QR Day.

Show the sport. not the crime.

By organising a big cruise with raising money for charity, having trader stalls, etc, you are making it look like a big tacky publicity stunt.

I would simply keep it on the quiet and get a group together of people who are known to act sensibly, and organise a low key, typical Sunday arvo run.
At the end of the day you want to show people what responsible car enthusiasts typically do - and having a big charity run isnt a typical Sunday arvo!
Say a typical cruise: meet at BWCP, cruise to Hinze Dam or Cooly for a BBQ, lunch at the pub. Then cruise back and hang a few laps of the Esplanade..... all the time showing that you are simple people who just want to enjoy a legal hobby without having the stigma of being a troublemaker attatched.

Somebody get this man a prize.

This isn't an occasion for charities and what not. Seriously, do you raise money when you head up to Mt Gravatt every Thursday night? Show the media and the public what a low-key cruise is like.

Very very good point. I agree. Small and simple. K.I.S.S. always works best.

Pat I'm hoping next weekend, the long weekend. It's to late in the week for me to organise something now, I have a mountain of work on as I've been laid up for the past two weeks after my car accident, the Q.L.D. Street Machine &Hot Rod show next weekend, plus a mates wedding and trying to get my own car back together for Tuesdays photoshoot with Street Machine.

I think we should stay right away from a charity cruise for this. It simply needs to be simple and show what we do when we go cruising, hence why I'm thinking a cruise maybe sunnycoast with a BBQ lunch and then some strong hard evidence of who causes the trouble in the BWCP.

Intelligent comments are still lacking...

Rick you have certainly gone to alot of effort to get your/our voice/voices heard, good work thumbsup.gif

Kells' idea of having some repsonsible people as representitives is an excellent idea, i know personally from my point of view, if i was john citizen sitting at home watching today tonight, id much rather see a small number of responsible and mature acting people talking about the important things, then a mob of car heads of all ages basically milling around looking busy.

The only thought i had, if you were to do something like this, as someone suggested before get a big group like the BCCCC at bwcp on a saturday or sunday, DURING the day, the BCCCC certainly brought out alot of nicer cars and left the yobo's at home, it seemed like a better atmosphere then you ever see at bwcp come saturday night.

There is no reason why you couldnt get a couple of key people to "represent" us "hoons" but incorporate it with a mass meeting at BWCP.

(ps. im sorry if someone has mentioned this before, but sorting though 120 posts whilst at work makes things kinda difficult)

my 2.34 cents

And there's no point bringing up "unfair defecting" outside Willowbank - cause lets face it - if you get defected, its because your cars modified in a way thats illegal. You can't expect sympathy from the public.

We just really need to make it clear that we need places to go where we can socialise and check out eachothers cars, and also point out that not everyone is part of the M1 brigade. Perhaps emphasise meeting places like the Spit, where people go to get together on a quiet Sunday arvo, park their cars, and sit down and just talk and meet people...

I couldn't disagree more.

They want us to take it to the track, yet there is a much greater risk of getting defected (only one way out), than there is while mucking around on the street.

As for making it clear that we need places to check out each others cars etc. Thats what Willowbank is already. If we get a new place, they will defect us there as well. No need to move the problem, only to fix it. Both parties need to compromise.

urfortuatly ur wrong

people are getting defected for cars that are legal

eg

while just crusing at 60kph

was in a friends car- he has the QLD traffic act printed out in his glovebox, got pulled up (wastold car was too loud, too low, atmo bov and pod)

well lucky we had the act (or so we thought), we show the police that the car is allowed to be 105mm off the ground, show him that the exhuast is allowed to be 92b, (the car was measured @ 91a week earlier) the officer had no testing equipment and saying that he can "hear" whats legal and whats not.

we copped the BOV one coz thats fair enough

and the pod was enclosed in a aluminum box with CAI and was engineered - completly legal, the coppa didnt want to have a word of it.

in the end he got 4 defects (despite 3 of them being COMPLETY legal) - the fact is the coppa did it just coz we were right and he didnt want to be shown up

hows that for fair?

Moderators VS_Sev needs to be BANNED from this site. He is exactly the sort of person we don't want to be made to look like. If average Joe read through these 6 pages of replys, and you asked him which one he remembered, I guarentee it is the post about cars being made to be flogged.

This is an awesome opportunity that can't be let slip. Whatever is decided, i don't wanna see 1 illegal activity being shown.

BWCP could be an idea, however I'm just not sure that it is even big enough for all people to attend and fit into the park without causing disruption to the traffic. However the road going past the carpark is always a bit of a crawl anyway. Could be OK there.

While the idea of a small gathering for bbq and whatnot will be easier to manage and organise, you need to think about what it is channel 7 are going to show on tv? What will they talk about while showing footage of 5 cars cruising together?.. they need a story.. and I'm not sure if the small gathering will be much to talk about for them??

just a thought.

Silvia_Xtreme
Post #91

small gathering = 100 or so cars...

smile.gif

when we compare sizes, we tend to compare it to the BCCCC `04, which had something like 600+ cars..

I'm not trying to start an argument, I just don't think you are going to get much support from the public if they know you have mods to your car which are against the DOT guidelines.

Unfair defects where the officer either does not have the appropriate training to undertake defects, or situations where you have been incorrectly defected are obviously things that you can/should bring up.

But, if you know your car is defectable, why not take the same perogative as people who frequent willowbank all the time, and tow your car in? That's the way the public will see it.

You can't go on television and state how we are so hard done by, and incorrectly labelled, if you are going to go on about things which the average Joe Citizen sees just asking for trouble.

Hence why I think you need to have a couple of appropriate representatives - this needs to be *completely* thought out if you are going to go on television.

MR AKE70
Post #94

How about you actually run down a few of the items that are deemed defectable to the news reporters and ask the public as to why they are illegal and for what reason they were made illegal?

To me that’s the problem, half of the things that are found to be illegal were made illegal when they were in their most popular time for car enthusiasts to have, the question then arises, were they made illegal for a safety reason or because they were popular to us “hoons”, and in turn something they could defect us for to gain more revenue???

Firstly i want to commend rick on both his enthusiasm and determination.
good on you. thumbsup.gif

The best place to cruise would be the sunnycoast, it will get you away from the wankers on the GC, the sunnycoast cruises i ve been on have been a really nice laidback and fun day, with little trouble from the Police.

Whatever happens i will be ther to support it, i ve only been in the car scene for 1.5 yrs but have quickly realised what the car scene means to alot of ppl, and how ignorant other ppl who dont realise this.

all the best rick.

well for starters id get of the charity cruise bandwagon for starters after all after ur last one did u even see it mentioned in the media let alone how much money u raised?

I know i never did, maybe u didnt contact the right ppl like i know who to contact.

Another thing is you all go and do the right thing for a weekend then what happens the following weekend so wankers goes and stuffs it.

as for the jumping down dickheads in the car park when the media is there No offence BUT THATS FUCKING PATHETIC why dont u do it every weekend not just when a big song and dance is on and ur all trying to look responsible.

I for one would like to be asked to be on the committee as im the one who started the BWCP up for everyone to use as a safe place and legal place to hang out without the police cracking down and dickheads around wrecking it,and have always had and will have great cops, media and council and pulic contacts still, even thou i havent been down to the bwcp for ages i still get calls from the media and talk to cops on a regualr basis about the whole scene.Plus the fact im gold coast based.

I think unfair defecting is quite a realistic issue. I did read somewhere that it is quite possible for the police to defect a brand new car that complies with all Australian Standards. An example I was given is that you can be defected for not having a H-pattern on a car's manual gear lever. However, I imagine there are definitely a few cars with leather or woodgrain gearknobs from factory without the reqd pattern (maybe European cars?) I'm not sure how accurate this is but I definitely think that defecting can be in very unfair form. I think that there are situations where unfair defects are made and I think the defects given are beyond ridiculous sometimes (ie, most people wouldn't even know it was a defect!!!) However I think that could be a number of obviously illegal modifications picked up outside Willowbank and you can't blame anyone but yourself. And think about what you might sound like your saying, "We have illegal cars but at least we drive them on public roads to a private track to use them, so its not fair to be defected on the public roads on the way to the private location." Personally......
tough shit.....

Also I don't think this is the most appropriate thing to bring up right now, ie, one step at a time people

That's a good point. In fact, one may say it is a very good point.

No matter when/where this little event happens, make sure there are a few 'highly' modified cars present... not saying everyone must have an R34 or anything, but seriously when people think of hoons they probably think highly modded import/falcon/commodore moreso than something like Pete's cressida.

i have not read this whole thread so im not to sure if this has been discussed. car events like hyperzone and auot salon and show what ppl have done. then give figures of what charity cruises have raised. its going to be hard to keep idiots away from a regular event i.e. bwcp. also the drift zone stuff seems to be hoon free off the track. show that ppl have put effort and dollers into their cars and do the right thing by it like taking it onto the track. not to sure if i have gone of point or have even addressed it. but this is whats on my mind now about it.

This might be out of line but no matter what the media shows to the public will not change the current situation the hoons or crusiers fall under the same scrutany because when you hang around public area the you are seen to hang around the same idiots it is unfortunate but thats how were shown as you loiter around areas like bwcp or milton maccas it make it hard for the general public to accept us with such a high police presance the general public looks at that as we are trouble makers if you are geting you car cheaked over by police. But the buc doesnt stop with just the public its the government that makes the laws that will either affect us or aid us unless we can show them that we arent all idiots and we ourselfs can stop the idiocy that occurs in these area then they wont back down.

Thats my 2cents Cheers
