Is it possible to have 2 events to be filmed? If so, I would do a smaller one with some intelligent people who own legally modified cars to interview and then a larger one that can show how many of us there really is. |

QUOTE(WattsyLX @ Apr 21 2005, 11:15 AM) By organising a big cruise with raising money for charity, having trader stalls, etc, you are making it look like a big tacky publicity stunt. I would simply keep it on the quiet and get a group together of people who are known to act sensibly, and organise a low key, typical Sunday arvo run. At the end of the day you want to show people what responsible car enthusiasts typically do - and having a big charity run isnt a typical Sunday arvo! Say a typical cruise: meet at BWCP, cruise to Hinze Dam or Cooly for a BBQ, lunch at the pub. Then cruise back and hang a few laps of the Esplanade..... all the time showing that you are simple people who just want to enjoy a legal hobby without having the stigma of being a troublemaker attatched. Somebody get this man a prize. This isn't an occasion for charities and what not. Seriously, do you raise money when you head up to Mt Gravatt every Thursday night? Show the media and the public what a low-key cruise is like. |

Pat I'm hoping next weekend, the long weekend. It's to late in the week for me to organise something now, I have a mountain of work on as I've been laid up for the past two weeks after my car accident, the Q.L.D. Street Machine &Hot Rod show next weekend, plus a mates wedding and trying to get my own car back together for Tuesdays photoshoot with Street Machine. And there's no point bringing up "unfair defecting" outside Willowbank - cause lets face it - if you get defected, its because your cars modified in a way thats illegal. You can't expect sympathy from the public. |

You can't expect sympathy from the public. We just really need to make it clear that we need places to go where we can socialise and check out eachothers cars, and also point out that not everyone is part of the M1 brigade. Perhaps emphasise meeting places like the Spit, where people go to get together on a quiet Sunday arvo, park their cars, and sit down and just talk and meet people... I couldn't disagree more. They want us to take it to the track, yet there is a much greater risk of getting defected (only one way out), than there is while mucking around on the street. As for making it clear that we need places to check out each others cars etc. Thats what Willowbank is already. If we get a new place, they will defect us there as well. No need to move the problem, only to fix it. Both parties need to compromise. |

You can't expect sympathy from the public. urfortuatly ur wrong people are getting defected for cars that are legal eg while just crusing at 60kph was in a friends car- he has the QLD traffic act printed out in his glovebox, got pulled up (wastold car was too loud, too low, atmo bov and pod) well lucky we had the act (or so we thought), we show the police that the car is allowed to be 105mm off the ground, show him that the exhuast is allowed to be 92b, (the car was measured @ 91a week earlier) the officer had no testing equipment and saying that he can "hear" whats legal and whats not. we copped the BOV one coz thats fair enough and the pod was enclosed in a aluminum box with CAI and was engineered - completly legal, the coppa didnt want to have a word of it. in the end he got 4 defects (despite 3 of them being COMPLETY legal) - the fact is the coppa did it just coz we were right and he didnt want to be shown up hows that for fair? |

Moderators VS_Sev needs to be BANNED from this site. He is exactly the sort of person we don't want to be made to look like. If average Joe read through these 6 pages of replys, and you asked him which one he remembered, I guarentee it is the post about cars being made to be flogged. |

While the idea of a small gathering for bbq and whatnot will be easier to manage and organise, you need to think about what it is channel 7 are going to show on tv? What will they talk about while showing footage of 5 cars cruising together?.. they need a story.. and I'm not sure if the small gathering will be much to talk about for them?? |

I'm not trying to start an argument, I just don't think you are going to get much support from the public if they know you have mods to your car which are against the DOT guidelines. |

How about you actually run down a few of the items that are deemed defectable to the news reporters and ask the public as to why they are illegal and for what reason they were made illegal? |

I think unfair defecting is quite a realistic issue. I did read somewhere that it is quite possible for the police to defect a brand new car that complies with all Australian Standards. An example I was given is that you can be defected for not having a H-pattern on a car's manual gear lever. However, I imagine there are definitely a few cars with leather or woodgrain gearknobs from factory without the reqd pattern (maybe European cars?) I'm not sure how accurate this is but I definitely think that defecting can be in very unfair form. I think that there are situations where unfair defects are made and I think the defects given are beyond ridiculous sometimes (ie, most people wouldn't even know it was a defect!!!) However I think that could be a number of obviously illegal modifications picked up outside Willowbank and you can't blame anyone but yourself. And think about what you might sound like your saying, "We have illegal cars but at least we drive them on public roads to a private track to use them, so its not fair to be defected on the public roads on the way to the private location." Personally...... |

QUOTE(roweysvn @ Apr 21 2005, 02:27 PM) Kells' idea of having some repsonsible people as representitives is an excellent idea, i know personally from my point of view, if i was john citizen sitting at home watching today tonight, id much rather see a small number of responsible and mature acting people talking about the important things, then a mob of car heads of all ages basically milling around looking busy. That's a good point. In fact, one may say it is a very good point. No matter when/where this little event happens, make sure there are a few 'highly' modified cars present... not saying everyone must have an R34 or anything, but seriously when people think of hoons they probably think highly modded import/falcon/commodore moreso than something like Pete's cressida. |

i have not read this whole thread so im not to sure if this has been discussed. car events like hyperzone and auot salon and show what ppl have done. then give figures of what charity cruises have raised. its going to be hard to keep idiots away from a regular event i.e. bwcp. also the drift zone stuff seems to be hoon free off the track. show that ppl have put effort and dollers into their cars and do the right thing by it like taking it onto the track. not to sure if i have gone of point or have even addressed it. but this is whats on my mind now about it. |

This might be out of line but no matter what the media shows to the public will not change the current situation the hoons or crusiers fall under the same scrutany because when you hang around public area the you are seen to hang around the same idiots it is unfortunate but thats how were shown as you loiter around areas like bwcp or milton maccas it make it hard for the general public to accept us with such a high police presance the general public looks at that as we are trouble makers if you are geting you car cheaked over by police. But the buc doesnt stop with just the public its the government that makes the laws that will either affect us or aid us unless we can show them that we arent all idiots and we ourselfs can stop the idiocy that occurs in these area then they wont back down. |
