What would you prefer, 300kw non turbo car or a 200kw turbo-charged car?

say if it was the same car... same specs and all except the engines were different... id choose the 300Kw engine... if say it was a 200kw turbo 1100kg car with good suspension bla bla VS say a stocko commodore with a 300KW V8 id choose the turbo....

well a 200kw turbo would probably be quicker than the 300kw non turbo, cos it would weigh so much less.

Nah basically its a comparison to the new LS2 R8 HSV Commodore to the Evo 8.
A basic comparison, but could mean any car with these power figures.

Though if both engines had to remain standard & in the same weight car 300kw LS2 all the way.

hard to say dude... most people dont just buy a car because it has a turbo, or for that matter a fat V8,

soarers are a good comparison but, V8 or Turbo
very similar car but most V8 drivers hate the turbo and visa versa

200kW turbo car, i like how turbo's hold there power all the way through top end and don't just peak then drop dramatically.

evo 8 all the way. they outperform the commodore in every department. and look better doing it.

EDIT: if its not specific cars, id choose the turbo 200kw anyway. itd definitely be quicker than the other one, and i like turbo lol

I would be more intersting if you had said 300kw na V8 or a 300kw Turbo 6 or even 4 cause otherwise it would need to be very car specific casue of weight and how they get the power to the ground etc

ahhh the V8 would be much more user-friendly, but to be honest, most people on here buy a car to DRIVE it hard, so their should be no comparison, go the fun car! biggrin.gif

Honestly it depends what you want to use it for. The turbo car would more than likely kick ass in a drag but for example track work having 300kw there when you want it. As in put your foot down and instant YEHAAA!!!! Well what can I say you dont use a screwdriver to undo a bolt. If you know what i mean

Having driven both. I'll say grunt (300 aspirated). Dunno why, I like the rumble and rawness of an NA engine, but the blower is due to be fitted to my XR8 so where do I fit in then? dunno.gif

Just a quick question (an innocent query so please no-one get offended)

How many have driven both 200KW turbo, (guessing more people) here vs 300kw aspirated (possibly less) dunno.gif ? Just interested to know

Why not just straight out ask 300kw LS2 Commodore or 200kw turbo Evo8?

Based on the poll question alone, I'd take the 300kw and thats all there is to that. 300kw is 150% the power of the 200kw car, regardless of how it makes it. Having 200kw in a turbo car is hardly "top end", especially compared to a 300kw non-turbo car. The non-turbo car would smash it stupid in every way, except the ability to hold traction in the wet - and even then the torque spike of a 200kw turbo car would probably just as much of a handful to drive.
^ This is assuming all other attributes are equal, which in what the REAL reason for your poll is, they arent. You're comparing apples and oranges again, you're as bad as Pensioners Insurance Agency.

Ok, well a WRC car isnt a standard 200kw evo im afraid so its not exactly comparing apples with apples. These engines run an air restrictor to limit power to around 200kw, BUT have a SHITLOAD more torque down in the lower rev range due to the turbo. so much so in fact that they have more torque than a 480kw v8 supercar.

so the answer is simple.. i would rather a wrc engine in my car as it would be MUCH faster REGARDLESS of what car it is in

It's a pretty hard one if you are talking about an LS2 versus an Evo8 - both of them have very good points about them...

If it was a blue LS2 VZ GTO... I'd probably take that over the evo:)

i gotta say "the red krawler" is about the only person thats replied to this thread that makes any sense at all. since the original thread never specified what cars they are or what engines they are (v8 or turbo 4) why would anyone choose the 200kw over the 300kw???? dunno.gif head_wall.gif

since nothing is specified the two engines could potentially weigh the same and potentially be in exactly the same cars. some ppl might be thinking theres more potential in the turbo 200kw but thats got nothing to do with the options in the poll

SO 300KW ALL THE WAY!!! ...hmm hsdance.gif
