did noone hear the warning...slow down and take care by the sounds of it these people didnt the speeds and situations these people put themselves in are just utterly stupid...heres the story from sundaymail The idiots on our roads KAY DIBBEN chief reporter 26dec04 QUEENSLAND'S worst drivers of the year have been exposed by police desperate to stop holiday road carnage. The state's most brazen speeding motorist was clocked at a shocking 226km/h in a 100km/h zone, while the drunkest driver was eight times the legal limit. Another driver was caught using a mobile phone – and a laptop. Police are disgusted with the irresponsible driving. "It is just criminal," said state traffic support section Superintendent Ian McIntosh. State Police Minister Paul Lucas urged motorists to drive carefully to avoid a repeat of last year's holiday-period carnage of 42 deaths – the worst in seven years. Although there had been no road deaths by early last night, police lamented the fact holiday road safety messages had failed to get through to many drivers. In the past week, speeding motorists have been caught doing 123km/h in a Brisbane 60km/h zone; 155km/h in a 80 zone; and 212km/h in a 90 zone. Early yesterday, a 37-year-old man crashed his car into a tree on the Bruce Highway near Caboolture after a 10km high-speed pursuit. Friday's offenders included a driver doing 160km/h in a 60 zone at Bargara, near Bundaberg, another going 120km/h in a 70 zone on Brisbane's northside, and a drink-driver three times over the limit doing 145km/h in a 100 zone on the Gold Coast. The year's drink-driver with the highest blood alcohol reading blew 0.41 after his Holden Commodore crashed at Whiteside, in Brisbane's north, at 2.50am on March 20. Almost 1800 drivers were caught speeding on Friday. One driver involved in a crash on Brisbane's northside on Friday was already absolutely disqualified and had a blood alcohol reading of 0.24. "In a period when kids are on the road and people are out and about on holidays, doing those speeds, it is just criminal," said Supt McIntosh. "Nobody should have to drive on a road with people like this, not at this time of the year." The state's worst speedster was doing 126km/h over the limit when photographed by a speed camera in a 100 zone on the Warrego Highway at Gatton, west of Brisbane, on August 24. Four of the 10 fastest speeding drivers this year were on the Pacific Motorway at Pimpama, south of Brisbane, doing 182 to 215km/h in a 110 zone. It's not just drink-driving and speeding that are angering police. More than 12,000 motorists across the state have been fined a total of more than $2.7 million this year for using mobile phones while driving. Some of the worst examples include a driver caught talking on the phone while looking through a street directory, and another using a mobile phone and a laptop computer. One man tried to hide his phone in a takeaway food bag that he threw out of the car. He denied having the phone when pulled up by police at South Brisbane and told them they could search his car. When the takeway bag started ringing, police found the phone, answered it and the caller asked for the man who had denied it was his phone. Supt McIntosh said many mobile phone-users were dobbed in by other motorists. "It's becoming socially unacceptable to drive around and talk on the phone," he said. Even without a mobile phone, some drivers still managed to astound police with their irresponsibility. One man was caught using an electric shaver while driving a courier van. There were also many instances of motorists using both hands to eat while steering with their knees, and others applying makeup and brushing their hair. Last year's 42 holiday road deaths included 13 in crashes where alcohol was a factor. Another 637 people were taken to hospital. |

I was actually suprised at the drivers on the road christmas night. I was on the highway driving my mums van, with her and my bro and sis. The roads were quiet wet and i dont drive the van above 100 in normal conditions so i was doing around 80 to 90 for 20 odd kms and there was 4 cars behind me that did not overtake (they had bout 3 chances) and they all kept their distance so i was quite impressed that people still drive sensibly and even safer when its wet. |

'Twas the night before Christmas, not a rain drop in sight, a person was speeding, and they soon got a fright, they came around a corner and lost all control, did a backflip and a 180 and took out a pole. |

Some of the comments on here prove one thing, that the "speed kill" atttitude the govt. has been feeding everyone is working slowly. The "said" article in the sundaymail. was a culmination of a year of traffic mayhem, we as a "human" society will basically behaves like humans, we will sometime do stupid things on a impulsive urge, It's response like this that has made "our society progress in the way it is in on all front.in medicine-science-arts.Some of our greatest invention are by accident which has resulte from this "human response" As for our road toll it comes down to attrition rate, as a society i have to say we are a very safe-driving and law abiding society, and the govt. refuse to admitt this and in their callous greed have created a culture of "speed kill". |

Agreed..... Phil cops to much shit about it. Yes he does it, yes he has been caught. No one is perfect. Also i dont think phil has ever complained.. There are others who do far worse and dont get condoned (sp) for it. Its just that phil is known for it... as is dave and so forth. |

Yesterday, going to town from home, I was wondering if my speedo is inaccurate, if anything it should underread by 3% as the tyres are 3% greater in diameter than stock, and I was doing the speed limit on the western freeway and ippy motorway, and I was like the slowest there. What the hell is everyone doing???????????? |

These idiots where everywhere over the holidays, i saw one car overtake a whole heap of cars waiting at the lights at about 90km/hr while the light was still red and he did it on the side of the road, i saw another guy do a burn out in a shit old car in the middle of the road with little kids and familys walking right passed him to there cars, then i saw about 3 cars run extremely red lights. On my return from the coast to brissy i was overtaken by about 50 cars that where doing atleast 30-40km/h over the speed limit, when there where police all over the road. Some people are just dumb, if your going to do it and there are alot of people who think they need too, just dont bloody do it during the middle of the holidays when there are familys all around u. |
