Well if any1 read the topic "Hoons on the Coast" you will have some idea on what Im going on about here. If you didnt, a few members agreed that it may be a good idea on making up a flyer to give out to ppl at the esplanade.

This brochure would have different views discussed on what TO DO and what NOT TO DO if you are cruising the espy and may suggest alternative places to meet etc. I think it should contain something about how if you are driving the tourists away with unruly behaviour how it will affect the economy of the area and in turn your jobs.

As to the cost of producing it, Im happy to do the artwork for it, and send it up to a member on the gold coast to get it photocopied and cut up. It will cost approx 10c per A4 brochure but as I plan on making it A5 which you can fit 2 onto an A4 page it makes the price per piece 5c each. So if you photocopy 500 A4s (1 ream) you will end up with 1000 brochures to give out. The cost will be $50 unless someone can organise some copies at their work for free or cheaper which will be better.

If a site owner or admin / moderator is happy to support it, it will be nice to put at the bottom "proudly supported by www.boostcruising.com". So if you have 1000 + brochures it will be good advertising for the site even if the brochure doesnt have the hoped for impact. Plus it will help out with the bad press boostcruising has received lately in the newspaper by showing it IS a responsible and legitimate site to the general public.

When it is completed, it would be good to get a representative of the site to send one in to the newspapers and the TV stations who are making the bad reports on "hooning" and have them write a story about what we are doing to help clean up the scene. Everyone on this site is saying "its only the 1 or 2 who spoil it for everyone", it would be good to bring this point up when talking to the media.

Ok guys please post your comments and things which should be included into the brochure. Please be constructive about it.

I can't speak for all the mods/admins but I'm happy to help with photocopying/printing where I can, I can discuss this in pm Mark.

BTW thumbsup.gif to you for even making this post when you don't live in Qld.

As for contents on the brochure/flyer .... the suggestion to congregate at the spit of a Sunday as already mentioned for sure, while skids are great and have a time and a place - the esplanade on sunday afternoon (or any day for that matter) is neither.

Umm I'll keep thinking ....

mate i can see 1000 brochures blowing the the breeze down the esplanade from people who dont give a rats. and then www.boostcruising.com will get done for littering.

dont get my wrong, i think its a good idea, but some people have no respect for anyone, and i dont think a brochure will help them.

This sounds like a great plan, tops effort to you man!
Like you and angels666 mentioned, it should contain msg's about the "hooning" effecting the local economy and in the long term, quite possibly their jobs, other possible meeting spots, maybe if someone spoke to the gold coast police for some kind of endorsement and maybe they could let you do the photocoppying there, afterall it is for the good of the community.
It should certainly discourage antisocial behaviour and would be better if it targeted both sides of the arguement, the "hoons" and also grandma and grandpa in their volvo who drive past thinking "young hoons". So along with the anti dickhead msg, it could also promote the car community as a socially acceptable one which obeys the law and are only out to have a good time with friends.
Good luck anyway!

I think this would be a good line to stick in too.....might be a bit cheeky but...

"Just like their are crooked cops, their are irresponsible car owners. Please think of this before you label the entire community as a whole due to the actions of one person."

Needs to be worded a bit better but you get the general idea.

Yeah you have a point but I think that unless you stick them under wipers unattended its up to the person who receives the brochure.

Plus the fact we are trying to clean up our act by doing something like this should be in our favour.

As for the ppl who have no respect for stuff, if the greater car community receives it well, it comes down to peer pressure. Like someone in the previous thread posted if everyone looks down on skids in public places then ppl will think twice on doing it.

or "there are the good fast food places are some dodgy ones, that doesn't mean they all deserve the crap label, the same goes for the car community, the majority os us are like a subway 6 grams or less sub, bu there are also some 2 day old cheeseburgers in the pack"

I too will help.
even if they do end up as gutter filling, we have tried to bring awareness to the masses.

Hi Lux has a point. I think the idea is excellent but it's the "1 or 2 that spoil it for everyone" that will be the ones who don't give a rats.

Were you thinking colour or black and white?? If the idea is to send a few copies around to the media etc. then it would be good to have a few in full colour. I can help out with photocopying and I have a decent colour printer for a few copies too.

I thinks it's a shame that there is so much negative publicity and none of us "hoons" every get asked for a comment. We really do need to be able to have a say in our own defence and to make your point that it only takes one bad apple.

Is there some way of getting hold of the "anti-hoon legislation" to use as a guideline for some of the DOs and Don'ts?

Yeah I was just thinking it would be the cheapest to do black copying on a coloured paper or white if you were being stingy.

Whilst full colour would be cool it is quite expensive. I dont think the newspapers would care if it was just professionaly designed and then copied onto coloured paper. Still looks quite reasonable. If we find the brochure works well and is well received maybe look at full colour in the future. Then if there are any parts of it you would like to change we can easily. Why go full colour when black will do the job as effectively.

Im a graphic designer full time and we also print a lot of full colour jobs on a 4 colour press. If full colour is on the agenda in the future I can certainly do a bulk quantity job at a trade or cost price. Best to go photocopying first and see how it goes.

DSTRYR: B&W is fine for a first run.. considering this will be coming out of our own pockets, i would think the costs need to be minimised smile.gif.
ill donate $20 to the printing... and a few hours of my time.

ATTENTION
MODIFIED CAR COMMUNITY & GENERAL PUBLIC
Recently the modified car community has received a lot of bad publicity in the media for a few reasons namely;
* Burnouts on public roads
* Loud exhausts
* Loud stereos
* Street racing
These things particularly affect businesses & the public on the "ESPLANADE" at the Gold Coast. As their are many accommodation houses in this area this would undoubtedly have an affect on the local tourism industry and in turn the local economy. DONT CARE? Well a downturn in the number of tourists visiting the Gold Coast could mean that YOUR job or one of someone you care for could be lost.

We ae asking as members of the modified car community to please follow the following guidelines when driving or occupying the esplanade;

DO NOT - turn your system up to a level where it affects anyone outside your vehicle
DO NOT - rev your vehicle to raise the noise levels of your exhaust system to a loud level and if you do have an aftermarket exhaust fitted please try and use a gear where it will emit a quiet tone
DO NOT - do burnouts/skids etc
DO NOT - hassle or abuse any member of the public or police who may be in the area

DO - use your commonsense
DO - try and move to other areas of the coast where modified cars will not affect anyone eg. the spit or BWCP where there are no residential or accommodation houses present
DO - show other road users courtesy and respect
DO - discourage burnouts or other innapropriate behaviour by other car enthusiasts. If burnouts etc are discouraged then offenders will think twice before attempting to show off.
DO - LEAD BY EXAMPLE

I think its a great idea, but it all comes down to common sense - bogans will be bogans and brochure or not its still going to happen.

A good idea I thought of a while ago was a sticker that could be attached to a front or rear window that would signify to the police that you are a responsible driver and have signed a contract proving you to be a responsible driver, any hooning activity would instantly loose your rights/sticker... I am not too sure how it could be implemented but could help the police sort the bad eggs out.

my praise goes out to you for posting this but its only a good idea in thoery... i dont think it would work... but instead of doing flyers why dont we just have a cruise down there and then find somewhere to park and go around talking to people and invite the media? i dunno just an idea

Post #19

Well good idea but the problem is getting across to the general public - and a flyer I don't think will work as well as you think it might - just think of all the times those people have handed u flyers in the shoping centres - I know if I see any I will try and advoid them and if they get to me then I take it glance at it then throw it in the bin ------- I have a very good feeling this will happen in most cases or even worse drum up the hoon community and prevoke them to be like " Ohh you think my stero is loud ....... listen to this asshole" this sort of behavour is going to happen with the Bogans.

I am sure my definition of bogans would be very much similar to most peoples, and of which were depicted on channel 10 this week if you are unsure yourself.

If you have any hope of having your brochure adopted by the public (be it general or car community), I would be using every means possible to get input from the wider car community and general public - be it what you deem constructive or not.

As for constructive you must have missed my other comment in my post.

Anyways that's my 2c

Look - if we get it out there, and get some POSITIVE media attention from it by talking to papers and tv news ppl, it can only be a good thing cant it?

What other means do you think we should use to get it adopted by the public? I think we have a large sector of the media covered.

We need to start somewhere

DSTRYR if this idea is going to work, then you have to have it aimed at the general public. What you had written in that piece before was aimed at the car enthusiast and gave them a set of rules to stick to. What you need to have is something along the lines of "Boostcruising.com does not condone this sort of behaviour and this is what we're doing to try and fix the problem...." And then list what we are trying to do.

Hoons don't need a list of rules to stick to. If someone needs to be baby-sat by having a list of rules in front of them while driving, then they shouldn't have a license.

Fair enough - anyone with ideas for the brochure please submit them. Like I said feel free to add / remove any or all of it.

yeah i agree ovl01.. if u want the scene to improve, we need to direct it at everyone not just the car ppl. if we can write it so everyone can be involved then it might get a better response. for example, as said in the other thread most of the tourist want to know what goes on.... maybe explain a little on that.. and also i think that it needs to be explained that u and the other ppl doing this are a fellow car lover who comes to the esplande.. and like them, u think something needs to be done about it.

also someone else said previously, having ppl physically hand u a brochure is so annoying.. but if u make them and hand them to places like the hotels then maybe it could make more awareness..

eg: the fella on the news the other day that owned one of the hotels... maybe go and visit him and ask for his support and leave some at the front concer.. after all, its the ppl in the hotels that are complaining "hoons" are destroying the coast.

if i can help i will

Does any1 have any further ideas for the content? My last attempt sorta got shot down in flames so how about some input????

yeah sounds like a good idea. Problem is I live more than 3 hours away so if someone at the coast would like to donate some time?

Preferably one of the older members as we dont want to be seen as a bunch of whinging kids. Unfortunately ppl generally take older ppl more seriously.

I work at GCCC in the town planning section and am very good at putting together an argument, i'm sure a couple of us could get together and meet police and GCCC representatives...

Who does your dad suggest we talk to though? The councillors or other council staff??? Susie Douglas is the councillor for Surfers so i guess she would be one person to speak to, and i guess we could try convice good ol Ron Clarke to come along....

I've been typing huge messages but haven't been logged in! STUPID COMPUTER. Ok well i think the brochure is a great idea. it is worth a shot. like i said strength in numbers is the only way to win this fight. I would be more then happy to help out in any way i can but im only a 19 yr old and don't even have a done up car so i wouldn't be much help. But just let me know and im in. We also need a big group to be at the espy to BOO or discourage people doing stupid behaviour.
thats my personal opinion.
