is there anyways to put a dohc head on it? (as in like on the rb30 block/rb25 head sorta idea) making it infact a FJ20DET?

It is already a DOHC engine laugh.gif . FJ20ET is the engine number that nissan gave it. wink.gif

I thought with the SR being the newer engine everyone would have picked it. But its suprising to see that the FJ is preferred over the SR.

the fj is the stongest out of the lot...

just remeber that the sr isnt that new anymore, but yes it is the newest out of the lot of them.

everyone bad mouths the ca18 because its only a 1.8l fact is, it is alot more stronger than the sr and the valve train, is more reliable at high rpm than the sr version due to it being a bucket and shim setup as opposed to the fragile sr rocker arm setup.

I still think the FJ is the winner thumbsup.gif but the SR and CA are a good debate. While the CA is stronger than the SR Lets see some one get 400rwhp out of a standard CA. But on the other hand lets see some one get 400rwhp out of a standard SR and see how long it holds together. wink.gif I am not including the GTI-R engine in this debate.

err the only reason the sr will make more power with the stock internals over a ca is the 200cc advantage, its not rocket science.. duh.

bring the ca up to 2l and see what happens... but you knew that smile.gif

FJ20 for a race engine

SR20 vs CA18 has been done a million times on nissansilvia.com! we talk about it a few times a week, lol and the answer is always the same "there is no better engine" each has different highs and lows and each is suited to different things.

the plain fact is i love revs and my redline is set @ 8500rpm with factory internals and its doin fine!

but i do look after it with regular maintence, something alot of people dont do, any engine will die without maintaince!

seriusly people who think the ca18 are the be all end all because it can rev need to get serious, it still doesnt make no where near as much torque or power! Its like a honda vtec engine. Yes Ive driven both (in numerous cars) , and the ca18 truly sucked...

No experience with FJ20's but yeah seen them in drag racers etc, so they are quite tough and produce the power.

Sr20 baby all the way, torque wins. Still tags 7500 revlimit fine, still produces good power, and not "fragile"

ive driven all sorts, SR20 / RB etc

yes they make more power/torque, but my car cost me only 7k!!

They are the SHIT of the SHIT! they are the best SR20DETs by far, solid lifters, quad throttle bodies, and bigger journials than any of the other ones, plus a stronger block!

so now who wants to bag out on an SR20???

Saying a ca18 truly sucks is a bit of a gross over generalisation, after owning a ca18 with a reasonable amount of mods, i never had any problems with the motor itself. i made 205rwhp on 15psi and the motor reved hard and had decent low mid and up top power. I now own a sr20 and i do miss my little ca18 some days sad.gif.

Nissan stopped making the ca18 due to it being too complex and advanced for its own good at the time and the cost of mass production for the ca18 was costing too much, hence why they made a lot less complex sr20 motor.

My friend has just about finished his ca18 project and its basically a rebuilt ca18det with forged internals, arias forged pistons, shot peened rods, haltech e6x management, bored to 1.9L, s15 t28 running 1.4bar smile.gif

If it was up to me, id love to have that ca18 smile.gif

a CA revving to 8000 with 15psi boost is alot of fun to drive tongue.gif , plus the car itself is lighter than a SR powered car by 100kg or so

haha mine holds 10psi to 7500 unsure.gif so it is worth it

and the CA manual weighs about 1100

while the SR manual weighs about 1180

so with the removal of accseories, and addtion of some, its quite possible that in stock cars the difference to be 100+kg!

I agree with you on the GTIR SR20 being the best in the SR20 range... The only reason for that is because i have not seen anyone use the new and very unknown SR20VET that was released in the X-Trail GT (which i think were not released in Australia)
From what i can remember they are the GTIR engine but with Variable Valve Timing etc. I am yet to see anyone do development with these engines. Would be interesting to see if they are all they are cracked up to be...

On another note... the FJ20 shits over all of them tongue.gif
and i'd much rather a CA than an SR anyday...
