Hey Guys,

I'm thinking about going in the burnout comp at powercruise on saturday night and I want to make sure it's a good skid (lot's of smoke etc). I'm wondering if anyone has opinions/sugestions/experiences on what the best tyres (brand, size etc) are to use for a nice smokey skid. OVB I'm looking in your direction. You're the skid king, you must have some ideas on this tongue.gif

B F Goodrich CompTA's smoke up really well. I am pretty sure that is what Gary Myers uses on his Mustang.

mmm burning re treads sounds dogey. they might come apart and screw up the car.

and i'd put some thing over the parts of the car that are likly to get splatered with moern tire rubber.

Get your self some nice pursuit rims that have been in the sun for a bit and have some average dunlops or bridgestone RE92's on them, their cheap they smoke and you can prob buy a few sets, thumbsup.gif or what i plan to be doing, putting my now illegal FALKEN ZXE semi race tyres on the VN and now thats what u call smoke! but they about $325 a pop so dont do it with new ones! laugh.gif

alot of the guys at summernats use a 4x4 mud tyre. I read that there are a couple of reasons for it, tread depth and does cool helis with big tyres. Most use a 32x11.5x15'' which fit on any 15x7 or 15x8'' rim. can pick them up from about 200-250 each.

i reckon you go the re92's, they fold out pretty well and they produce lot's of smoke, u can trust me on that, i decided to bag ma old mans work car up, went a bit far and blew em but yer they smoke well, and there not to expensive i picked up a replacement tyre that was practicaly brand new for $50, they are a very common tyre so there easy as to find. thumbsup.gif

either way good luck in the comp, i'll be there chearing u on mate.
cheers tim thumbsup.gif

to win your going to need to last the distance and produce a bang at the end (not to mention a shit load of smoke,

if your going in for fun go the tyres youve got lying around
if you want to win id suggest brigstone potenza's there soft which is good for instant smoke but not to soft that your gonna blow em in 30 sec.

I would say a set of soft tyres. They smoke like anything and they dont make that squeely noise that the shitty bridgestones and the like make....

You dont need to blow tyres at powercruise to win the comp, but you might get spectators choice thats for sure....

Some nice soft tyres with plenty of tread!!!

DO NOT go re-treads, i hate them, i dont reckon any car should have them. They cant go over a certain speed and when doing a skid the tyres turn at well over 100Km/hr, resulting in an early explosion and most liekly damags to your vehicle!

Also when making ur entrance to the skid pan, make it nice and fast with a quick 270 so your facing the crowd, and then sit there still smoking for a bit, and then bust out into a few donuts!!! Guareenteed to put on a show!!!!!

RE92's smoke well and are readily available. Whatever you do, DO NOT use snow tyres. they don't smoke up much, all they do is leave a powdery residue on the bitumen. Not too bad for drift as they have f@#k all grip in the dry, but can be a bit sketchy, as i have been told that they have very little or no sidewall stengthening. Basically.....avoid snow tyres.

And keep in mind that there will be several competitors that have been doing these comps for quite a while, so really if this is your first comp, i would probably suggest to just get the cheapest tyres you can.

Have fun thumbsup.gif

I've got a few lying around lol

I'm leaning towards just using the 245 BFGoodrich Radial T/As that I've got. They've been in the sun for about 2 years now, so they should smoke up alright thumbsup.gif

When i put snow tyres on my 180 I found them too grip real well in the dry and in the wet holly fark where they scary just on the highway at 100ks they where so sketchy in rain I was driftin everywhere I used em at a drift meet once on the dry they where shit no smoke and bit of grip cos they are a really soft compound and also have no sidewall support so they roll on em selves then cause your car too slide crazy in the wet but in the dry there shit for drift and id say shit for burnouts as they have no smoke
