you'd be hard pressed getting a decent s13 for that price let alone an s14. get an early rx7 or something like that, then youve got some options later on

yer get a silvia. 5g will get you a non turbo auto banged up one thats betta then a commodore

Post #7

Good luck finding even a very average silvia for under 5K.

If you are after something newish, why not get a lancer/excel/festiva etc.

Or you could go for a nice clean VL if thatis what floats your boat.

My sister has a 96 Excel for sale, she is trying to sell it to me.. if anyone wants to buy it but, call 07 54914670 for details. i live in the sunny coast.

you can pick up some pretty tough Falcons with worked V8's for 5g's.

but if u dont like older cars, maybe lancers, festi's, lasers, corrola's etc...

i had a 1989 skyline Ti 4door, same engine as a VL commo, they are very reliable cars, most options and parts are fairly easy to find.

u will prolly cop some shit for posting another thread about 'what car should i get', oh well

Post #11

im thinking about them old lancers with the WRX type lights, there is one near my house kitted, SOO nice.

<nods slowly>

Provided you've got a bit of weekly money for fuel, the early rx7 series are fantastic for that price range.

I picked mine up for 2k a while ago, been playing with it since. Lots of fun.

I waz in the same position as you 3 months ago (16.5 years old) but with only 4k.... Looked at buying a VN but every man and his dog has one and after reading up on them they werent really the best model. Looked at a VL but most had been thrashed to blazes with mods and shit on them, koni suspension, over tweaked turbo etc. SO, I found a car with 74000kms on it and it was a VK.

Everyone told me how crap vks were but I read motors "25 years of commodore" magazine. Lots of good points on the VK including the fact that it was the end of a model run so it was obviously very reliabe with all the pilot model niggles ironed out. Honestly getting anything with under 100000kays on it is more rewarding than owning something that has been trashed. And besides, despite what some will tell you, commodores arent crap. After driving silvias and R31 skylines I was convinced that beyond doubt the best car out there was a Commodore. Fast, cheap, sexy and mod-able. A 1.8 Silvia or a 3.3 commodore?

I guess thats up to personal opinion. 1.8L Silvia isnt as thirsty....and my 1.8 Silvia used to blow the sox of any 3.3L Vks......

Just pick you priorities then testdrive the cars you can think of in that range. Everyone else will recommend something they like...
