Basically whats best bang for buck. I already have an RB20DET, so working that, internals, turbo, cooler, computer??? etc.
Or go for the RB30E block, and RB25DE non VVTI heads, find a suited turbo, etc, and somehow wack that in to the cefiro.

Basically, whats the best option. I like torque, but I also like revs.

Do not say RB25, or RB26, as I really dont want either of those, as the cost will blow out a fair bit.

go the rb30det mate. you can go past the extra displacement.

From what ive heard, you dont get that much power by putting on the twin cam head onto the rb30!!!

Most of the 9 second VL's have the single cam head. So unless you want to put the twin cam head on, go for it, But if you want to keep your costs down, stay with the single cam. That way you dont need to change the computer and all those little nigly bits!!!!

So go for the straight RB30T and work with that, will save you lots!! But if you want the RB30DET, it will be a bit more expensive.. Its all up to you though!

Well then RB30DET it is!!!!

Whats wrong with the RB30T????

Will the RB20 top end fir on the RB30 bottom end do you know? Or are you going to get the RB25 top end?

talk to avalonea about the rb25/30 hybrid... hes had experience putting one together.. he might be able to give you some valuable info.. and for the record a rb30det (as u call them) has far more power than the rb30et on the same bewst. something like 30kw from memory.... ?

If the cost wasnt stupid, and they bolted up I would be. However the conversion costs alone blows that idea out of the water.

And Pat, if Josh is out tonite Im going to try to talk to him a little more about it.

mate u can whack the rb20 head on the 3 litre bottom end and make a fuck load of power if u want to

But i don't see why people wanna mix and match heads when a rb30et can run 9 sec passes all day!!

Putting the RB20 head on the RB30 block is a HELLA lot harder than the RB25DE head. Basically I want to know bang for buck. Its not so much about power, but about speed. I've heard of ppl putting 2jz in, and then taking them out and going back to the 1g, because it was actually faster.

If I wanted a 9sec car, I would be putting a 4.5L nissan quad cam V8 with a couple of turbos wacked on the side of it.

im sorry but your wrong

the rb20 head will bolt straight on.. all the dowels line up etc.. all u have to do is move the timing belt tensioner... and u can even buy the timing belt for this conversion off the shelf!!

Go for RB30DET, you get the benitfit of a larger displacment motor together with a high flowing head. Will make heaps more bottom end than an RB20DET.

RB20 head is just silly to put on a RB30 block cos it wont flow enough for the extra capacity
RB25 head is good and give a lot of potential but isnt very good bang for buck on its own(unless u can do it yourself cos the expensive bit is paying a shop to do the hard work)
there is a lot of info about this sort of stuff on www.r31skylineclub.com ...
most of the r31 club guys go for RB20DET or RB30ET and if they want more RB25DET or RB26DETT($$$$) and the RB30DET is for people who are game for a bit of work
