What is the difference (other than being turbo charged) between the silvia K's and Q's. As im finding it very difficult to find a good example of a K series. Though i've come across the opportunity to get hold of a nice blacktop SR20DET at a great price with low km's and forged internals. So maybe a Q's turbo conversion is on the cards?

I acknowledge that the engines are different. My question is are there any chassis/suspension or driveline differences?

First of all:

Silvia's J, Q and K stand for Jack Queen and King. Most people don't know this (kind of trivial I know tongue.gif)

Q's and K's both had the CA from '88 till mid 1990. Then both models went to the SR20.

---

Q's have optional LSD and no turbo - K's have LSD, Turbo, Hicas

SR20 silvias have round foglights inside of the headlight cluster- I believe the CA18 silvias have the two square yellow foglights nearer the middle of the grille.

---

Approximate weights:

CA18DE
J's - 1090kg
Q's - 1090kg
K's - 1120kg

SR20DE
J's - 1110kg
Q's - 1110kg
K's - 1150kg

---

SR20 rims on left, CA18 rims on right:

All of that and more from here: http://members.iinet.net/~sayers/biscuits/specs.htm
which I found after about 10 seconds on www.google.com

I could do your homework too, if you wanted.

my CA didnt have fog lights. it had square lights. parkers, normal and hi-beam(closest to grill).

If your going to turbo it (Q), u might as well buy a turbo (K) to begin with. it works out cheaper, and atleast you have a car the way it was made.. not chopped and changed to suit a new engine.

dont forget A(ce) and J(ack silvias)

from memory J's were the base of the base and A's were the top of the line. i have seen both J's(2 of them) and A's(only ever seen one) getting around but never had a chance to pull the drivers over and see what the real differences are.

there differences arent major -- like it was said , bigger brakes, LSD standard in K's and wanky shit like HICAS and HUD etc

good too find a good K' silvia, but if you have found a cheap sr20det and can find a really good Q's in good nick, i would go the conversion!! jsut remember extra money for brakes and LSD etc if you wanna upgrade properly!

Brake size only changed on the motors not if they are turbo or not.
ca18's had the smallest of the brakes and the sr20 had the biggest for the silvia's.

I believe that the suspension is more riggid, the Diff is LSD, however LSD was an option for the Q's
k's comes with variable winscreen wiper timing aswell. biggrin.gif
