Unfortunately the show at Warwick isnt a drags/show double..... the show n shine is on the 9th and Drags are at the end of the month. Would have sure pulled a crowd if they were both on the same weekend!!! :x

Theres heaps of other shows coming up... as mentioned, Ballina this week; Cleveland Autospectacular; Toowomba show, Bike Trike and Hot Rod show; and a Holden and Ford show at RNA are all on in the next 2 - 3 months.

OK guys, there was a performanceforums Byron cruise at roughly this time last year...

Basically it was setup like this:

2am : Depart Yatala BP

4:?? : Arrive Lower Byron Carpark (plenny of parking)

we then headed up to the lighthouse / lookout, but it was bloody hard to park more than 30 cars as the top carpark doesnt open till later in the day

We walked up thru the gate and watched the sunrise (quite beautiful - and since it is the most eastern point in australia, you are the FIRST people in australia to see the sun rise that day!

We thenheaded down to the lower carpark again for brekky... The local Brumby's bakery shortly after ran out of meat pies, they didn't know what hit them when 50 or so really hungry cruisers rocked up tongue.gif

after Brekky and talking (and some fixing of cars) we were then off thru Bangalow towards Lismore (i think) fuel stop in lismore then we were off to woodenbong

we stopped at woodenbong in a park for a few minutes before heading back over the border towards QLD

We went thru gatton ETC and regrouped (cant remember where exactly now) before going home

I got home about midday that day - awake for soo many hours I was totally exhausted and slept for two days afterwards.

It is a VERY tiring run and I suggest frequent short stoppages and reviver stops. At about Bangalow Majord and I were wigging out : DANGER!

If there is enough call for this I suggest we do our own run as the performanceforums ones tend to get reallly large!

opinions?

lets get something happening!

I reckon a weekend or so before easter

(gives us quite a while to scout it)

I would personally like to to Yatala to Byron - Ballina - Maybe a tad further south then back up thru Mt Lindsay etc

Spose I need some more maps for my car now

All I have is SE-QLD tongue.gif

mattson
Post #22

Yeah mate, I'm up for it.... if you've got the directions/path travelled last year we can just follow that... It would be easy to pick up the gold coasters on the way...

I don't mind handling some of the administration either

let me know

Anonymous
Post #23

Yeah thats fine as long as I don't have to use my car for the scouting run(s) tongue.gif

Will get the previous route directions later....

From memory we picked up the gold-coasters at some servo, but I suppose it would be just as easy to say we will meet them at Bermuda

Being from the far north (up caboolture way) I ended up cruising down with my brother to BWCP and spent the sat night down there in the BWCP till 1:40 when we had to be back at Yatala - Maybe something similar this time too, that way we could be "mostly together" from the onset

CB's are a must though, it never mamzes me how much easier it is when a good cruise has 9:10 CB:Car ratios

Even a $75 handheld can make the difference between getting lost or finding the pack again!

LOL its a pretty easy trip if u just follow main roads and tourist drives etc.......i used to go to byron/ballina all the time on surf trips........but byron is getting a real anti-tourist attitude lately...even goin so far as to want to charge outerstate visitors an entrance fee like a theme park...NO SHIT.

Anonymous
Post #28

Yep, thats why getting to byron at 4:00 in the morning is a great idea

I think last time the only locals we saw were the guy on the scooter with the scoobydoo t-shirt and the clown HOINK HONK horn in his hand and a few hippies in a combie in the carpark

As far as route goes I think maybe a _little_ further south than Ballina would be fine...

Then head back up (maybe thru Nimbin - but i _definitely_wont be stopping) then back to mt lindsay (nice twisty roads there) albeit dangerous to the "heavy foot" I think it could be enjoyed quite safely...

cams116
Post #29

Ok with the brumbys thing, maybe give them a ring, before hand saying, expect 'x' number of people to be wanted a meat pie etc.

WattsyLX
Post #30

Give me a yell when you do the scouting run, ive lived in Byron Bay and this area all my life so i know it pretty well!! tongue.gif

When PF came down it was a nightmare at the lighthouse, when they were planning it i told them they would be better off parking down at Wategoes and doing the quick walk up the track (theres better views anyway as you walk along the cape) but after driving down there they bailed (too lazy to walk tongue.gif ) and went up the top and caused chaos. We went up there in the old shitter just after you guys got there and we had to reverse down the road cos there was no way to turn around...... i felt sorry for the other tourists in their campervan who came up behind us!!

We ended up going down to Wategoes, the only car parked there and it took us 5 minutes to walk up the track!!

And bugger Brumbies bakery off..... overpriced shit. The bakery down town accross from the Northern is open 24 hours and is way better and makes a Beef, Egg, Cheese and bacon pie that im addicted too! tongue.gif

WattsyLX, that would be great. local knowledge is always the best.

I might try and organise a scouting run in the next 2/3 weekends, the more the merrier. (hint : I wouldn't mind a lift in a WRX tongue.gif)

We will post back here with what we're gunna do. This will be fun!

Sounds like a good idea comeing back the Mt lindsey Hwy as i have never been that way, also makes it nice and easy for me to get home.

The only that i am worried about is someone falling asleep at the wheel, so think a stop half way down would be good, allow us to regroup, driver change if needy.

SHOTGUN! But no way am I driving on the way back.

Well, I will be glad to drive my own car all the way.

The problem with falling asleep behind the wheel came from long boring straights. As soo as we got to the Mt Lindsay highway, we woke up cause u had to be awake for the corners and stuff.

Rest assured, safety stops will happen!
