I have just received some information that will affect numerous persons on this site. Numberplates that are made by anyone else other then the Q.L.D. D.O.T. is ILLEGAL and will result in you receiving a $180 infringement notice by the Police if you are caught. This applies to any Q.L.D. numberplate, no matter what it is. So if you have one then you should get rid of it as a matter of urgency and use the one that you were allocated by the Q.L.D. D.O.T. Anyone that makes them also is liable to be charged as well.

I'm talking about the people that make theirs out of perspex etc etc. I had a friend that was given a $180 fine on the weekend for this as the officer proved to him this practise is illegal. Usually people with custom plates get someone to make them up out of perspex for them and use a sign writter to cut the numbers and letters out of a reflective material. Like I said this is ILLEGAL and will result in you handing over $180 to the government if you are caught! |

No it is a common thing. People who have prestige plates on Silva's etc etc have plates custom made out of perspex so they fit into the numberplate recess on the front and rear bumper bars properly, or other wise you have to fold the edges of your number plate over to fit in there. Just don't want to see anyone handing over hard earned $$$$$ to the government for silly reasons. You would be suprised as to how many people have done this. |

I saw an old wb ute the other day that had it's number plate as some numbers written on the back of a beer carton with a nicko pen |

bending is illegal too, why don't they just get US sized plates that are designed to fit into the smaller recesses on imports? |

I'm sure Mr Shark can afford it, but it looks like his personalised plates on the Lambo aren't genuine. There's no QLD anywhere on them. |

Yeah Ang it is a nice looking Monaro that's for sure. Unfortunitly tho the numberplates on it (they are made out of red perspex) are illegal and he will get done for it if he hasn't been done already, so too will the guy at Southport that has been making them and telling people he has a permit to do so from the D.O.T. as no such thing exists. It must be hard for certain car owner, for example Silva owners. You can't bend then, can't cut them and can't make a plate yourself to fit neatly in the recess area, so your buggered if you do and buggered if you don't! Anyway I just posted the topic as I know the question on this issue has been asked and raised previously. It doesn't effect me as I don't have Q.L.D. numberplates but I know some of you do and coming up to the "festive season" and extra police presence on the road you just might get caught for it if you do have them. I'd rather se everyone have $180 in their wallets then in the governments piggy bank. |

why bother paying for customised plates only to pay more to create another design? I thought it was common knowledge that they had to be supplied from transport department or PPQ only. |

id rather cough up 400 then being constantly harassed about it. |

All plates remain the property of the Qld government which is the reason why no modifications are allowed to any plates, personalised or std issue. |

Me too ... I also thought that you could get plates from DOT. By the way, are they actually called DOTAC? As in dept of transport of communications? Or they've changed names again for a while now? |

I just checked.... it was DOTAC all the way until 93. That's how much I paid attention to their name heheheheh So what are they called now? Qld dept of transport? |
