Im still stumped about CA18DET coming out from factory with forged pistons stock? Can anyone enlighten me on this? Cos I have always believed they have just normal cast pistons like most factory cars.... blink.gif

they never came out with forgies..

i am looking at a ca piston right now in my hand.

ca's will throw bottom end bearing b4 they will throw a rod or piston tho

the reason why nissan ditched the ca over the sr was cost the sr was cheaper to make
personally i prefere a CA18 any day over an sr (sr stands for shitty rattles }

a ca18 is just a 4 cyl rb motor

as for the forgies in them they aint forgies they aint cast pistons they are infact steel skirted piston

a ca18 has a better head than a sr ca is lighter than a sr {dont be fooled that alloy engines r lighter}

i had 4 separate ca18's in my old silvia, and I am onto my 2nd sr20... in essence, I would prefer another ca18 anytime... though personal preference I guess?

It seems funny to me that some people think that just cos the ca18 revs more than the sr20 it would be faster!!?!

The reason it would rev more is cos there is less bore and stroke, therefore meaning smaller diameter pistons etc, which in turn means lighter pistons which means it would rev more. Yes i know there are millions of other variables that cause an engine to rev harder, but this is just a simple example.

The fact is, the Sr20 will have more torque than the ca18, due to the fact that it has larger displacement. The ca18 has less displacement then the Sr20, therefore it will rev slightly harder (or faster if u will). Just like a 600ml 2 stroke engine will rev to 13000rpm no problem, a stock 5.0l v8 will only rev to like 5000rpm or so. But just cos its revs to 13000rpm, doesnt mean its going faster, just means the crankshaft is turning a heck of alot faster!

Having said all that, i would prefer a ca18 over an sr20, basically for the price, bang for buck performance wise, and the versatility of the ca18!

and can make power easily

SR's are newer for sure, but im loyal!! to the CA

pretty much

a SR powered car is on average , 4k higher than a CA

therefore u can buy a CA engine and throw 3-4 k in mods onto it

CA = SHIt

Dude, the CA18DET is electronic fuel injected......not carby and i'm pretty sure no one knows what CA and SR stand for, it just a code for the engine i guess......just clearing that up for u buddy thumbsup.gif

WELL I STAND CORRECTED. I DID THINK THE CA WASNT A CARRBY, ILL KICK MY MECHANIC, WHO WORKS ON THESE ENGINES, FOR TELLIN ME THIS. BUT AS YOU NOTICED IN MY PREV. POST MY KNOWLEDGE (NOT MUCH TO YER THE TRUTH0 ONLY EXTENDS TO THE SR ENGINE NOT THE CA.
But the SR does stands for side rail. Ive found it out from several places.

hmmm i think ur mechanic has been tellin you porky pies, firstly by the CA bein carby, wat u think the plenum hangin off the side was for?, and i doubt sr stands for side rail,
maybe ur onto somethin
rb= rev bigly
ca= crap on average
vg= very gay

Ok, as owner of a ca, i think they are great motors. Only thing that is bad on them, is their pure age. Give me a rebuilt ca18 with forged pistons rods and a bit of head work anyday smile.gif. Though if u want decent power out of a ca, be prepared to make up the displacement for BIG BOOST!

my mates got a bluebird TRX with a carby CA18
so i think playboy was right, but they did bring out a efi model in the silvia/180

so from these 7 pages i have concluded, a FJ20 or L20B is better for power and well power

mate CA are NOT carburettor. And if u think they are plz Explain how they come in CA18DE and CA18DET. cause ur post say clearly that E is for electronic fuel injection.

I like to look at CA18DETs as an evolved form of the E15ET and that in my books is tops thumbsup.gif Im completely biase of course biggrin.gif But no matter what the engine is, it will all come down to personal preference, either you have *grown* up with something or you have been converted etc. In my world Im driving a 500kg shebanga with a CA18 driving the front wheels and an SR20 mid mounted driving the rear wheels doing easy 5s @ 400mph thumbsup.gif *wakes up* Drink.gif
