Mr Hinchliffe,

please point your web browser to the link below. This thread on a local car scene website more than clarifies how the general motoring public will react to your proposal.

https://www.boostcruising.com/forums/index....topic=19708&hl=

i think general concensus is.... alarms are a necessary part of life. how about you clean up the streets, reduce crime and then the car alarms wouldn't need to exist.
To me, my car alarm helps me sleep at night. if someone tries to break into my car, the alarm will sound, and i can react immediately, thus saving myself thousands of dollars. do you want to deny me of my right to protect my property? my hard earned and prize possessions? do you have no soul?

does your ban extend to home/business alarms also? as these are just as readily ignored.

if my car gets stolen i want it to leave screaming its arse off..with the alarm blaring full volume..

ppl shouldnt buy the cheap crap that goes off with just a car passing buy a decent one and they wont have this problem..

i remember the car alarm from hell that went off cause the owner was over seas they couldnt do anything and by law couldnt touch the car but after sleepless weeks the cops smashed a window and towed it away...

should have a law that states if a car alarm goes off repeatedly should have phone numbers to contact owners and if nothing is solved the car then should be towed away but they shouldnt be allowed to silence car alarms thats why they are there for to ALERT the community and the owner..

People say that when an alarm goes off no-one pays attention, but if I hear an alarm, I go check it out. You never know, it might be your car they are breaking into.

Also cause mine hardly ever goes off (its set up properly) I forget what it sounds like laugh.gif

Perhaps if there werent DIY alarms, or if places didnt offer cheapass alarms for $99 installed, there wouldnt be a problem with false alarms. If only.

No he prob has a car that ur taxes pay for and he does not give a shit if someone breaks into it, steals it, burns it or anything!
Why cause we pay for it not him!

I would like to know why all his facts are taken from the US when we r in Australia???
and why take the easy path out and ban those things making noise and disturbing the public when u could be spending time getting the pricks that damage and steal cars to set alarms off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! angry.gif angry.gif angry.gif

a copy of the letter i sent him

To David Hinchliffe

I have just read on the Internet that you want to "phase out or ban audible car alarms".

I personally, and im sure a hell of a lot of people will agree with me, that you have got to be kidding me.

What happens when my car is parked out the front of my house and someone smashes the window steals the radio and anything that's inside it!!!!!!

And all this happens in silence!!!!! I don't think so. If someone breaks into my car I want to know it.

Just another question, are you going to pay for losses and damage done to cars???? If not then you had better come up with some sort of reimbursement coz your going

to need it if this goes through!!!!!

You have just upset a lot of people with this matter and im sure you have lost a lot of votes!!!!

I will personally be posting YOUR letter on the Internet for everyone to see

below is a copy of your letter

Dear Resident

I am writing to seek your support for a proposal to phase out or ban audible car alarms. The noise from car alarms going off at all house of the day and night is becomming an increasing nuisance for inner city residents, particualarly those who live close to major parking stations in the valley.

As the chairperson for Community Policy, the Council representative for the most densely populated area of Queensland, and an inner city resident myself, this issue is one which concerns me greatly. This is not just a local issue. In the United States earlier this year, a forum identifies that 80% of calls to New York's quality of life hotline were related to car alarms.

Just as importand as the fact that they cause such a disturbance is that they are becomming increasingly ineggective. A recent AAMI report identified that 8 in 10 peopole totally ignored car alarms. Tha's becuase, as a study by Transportation alternatives in the US showed, 95-99% of the alarms were flase. I have even observed police walking past a public car park where an alarm is going off without attending.

I am calling for AUDIBLE car alarms to be banned -- but not car alarms per se. There are anti-theft devices which can be fitted to alarm systems and which are both cheaper and more effective. Silent engine immobilisers are less expensive than audible car alarms and work better. Car alarms can also be fixed to an immobiliser or a pager using the same sensor systems.

I have writeen to the State Government outlining my concern and encouraging them to become the first State in Australia to ban these out-dated, noisy and ineffective alarm systems. I hope you will join me in this campaign by signing the petition overleft and getting your friends and neighbours to sign.

you may want to reconsider this

if you really wanted to do something for the community then you would try to make security and insurance on vehicles a lot cheaper!

rule 1. dont believe everything you read in forums tongue.gif
rule 2. 80% of statistics are made up
rule 3. 80% of hotlines are gay stupid excuses to give people a job answering phones.

I don't agree with banning audible car alarms at all. They're completely necessary considering there's always folks out there stealing cars. And I bet that car thieves would know how to overcome certain immobilisers etc.

But what I wouldn't mind banning are the brief audible honking sounds that some horns make when folks arm their car alarm using their remote control keychain thing. I think that the short honking thing is a real pain in the butt when I'm in a car parking area and then somebody presses their remote and 'QueeKKKKK QueeKKKKKK!!!'. There's no damn need for that noise. I got my car alarm set up so that it doesn't do that kind of nonsense.

Ban the audible alarms they are too noisy for me when I am trying to get to sleep under Story Bridge.

And while you're at it, ban the audible lines on the freeways too cause I'm sick of hearing those stupid sounds every time I start drifting of the edge of the road...
