Hello, i was just wondering what your thoughts and personal experiences are with this engine mangement systems, especailly the newest ones, version 4.

Im considering purchasing one, however im not sure if they are any good.

Anyone know of any potential problems these EMS's have?

Cheers, Ahmed

hmmm...
yeah thats what ive heard as well, i have been to their website and i have seen the different features and they appeal to me heaps...

The only thing that i know is shit with them is the return to idle, and im not to sure on what the cold start is like......
but apart from that she should be sweet....
pretty cheap too and it would go good with the NOS system im looking at as well....

turbostyler wolf 3d version 4 is shit my mate bought 1 for me to put in his 1200 ute
i wired it up and couldnt get it to start so we towed it to chip torque the put it on the dyno and they found out there is no softwere for the version 4 yet

the dickheads make a ecu with no softwere wacko.gif blink.gif

so we phoned wolf up to get a refund they didnt want to admit it to us {no softwere}
but they gave us our money back

this was a few months ago so hopefully thay have softwere

yeh wolf cater for the "budget" end aftermarket ecus. Go with a microtech or haltech. Mate of mine got quoted $2200 installed and tuned haltech for his silvia. heaps more features than a wolf.

i've been looking at possible ecus for my rb conversion and wolf v4 looked the best from what i've read. cheap, stacks of features and built in boost controller. do a search at skylines australia and you'll find heaps of info (you prob have already).

yeah i have read the info on wolfs but i have also heard that no one can tune them properly...
Like they are a good system and all, however if no one can tune them then whats the point of getting one?
Also about the no software thing....thats just fucking weird!!! but they do have software out for it now, and it is available from their website...

Anyone else wonna add to this, input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a wolf 3D V4 in my bridgeport RX7 which is a full race cut bridgeport, yet can idle at 900rpm with the Wolf. It pulls to 10,000 rpm and doesn't miss a beat. I also know of people who can tune them, using either the handset or the laptop method. What I can tell you is the official Wolf Tuner in Queensland COULDN'T tune the thing, he had my car for 4-6 weeks and couldn't get it to run past 5,000 rpm, it took another bloke 90 minutes. Since then another tuner has also made the car run fine.

This is a Rotary of course, but the way it works is all common sense, although the data logging isn't as good as motec. PM me if you want details, phone numbers etc, but the main problem with Wolf is simply working out how to tune it, then it is all good.

As for software not existing for V4, I downloaded it from the net, and this was soon after it was released, as Wolf gave me an upgrade for various reasons (none of which were their fault). I think you will find out that what Wolf did not have is a base map for the particular motor in question, which means a much more expensive tune from scratch, and also makes it very difficult to get the thing to start without using a similar motor's tune and then correcting.

Just for the record, I got one of the very first Wolf 3D's and still have it in the car, and it is still going well. The box was gutted due to a slight electronic glitch after 3-4 years but Wolf were excellent about it. Car has also run 13.71 @ 100 on street tyres NA, completely untuned since last rebuild with the wrong plugs, so the Wolf must work ok.
