THE DARK TOWER Movie Confirmed to Be a Sequel To The Book Series

We already know that The Dark Tower film isn't a direct adaptation of any of the books in Stephen King's series. As we've noticed there are several different elements from various books that we've seen in the trailers. A lot of fans have been thinking that this is just going to be a very different and condensed retelling of the epic series to make it work for film.

Turns out the story they plan on telling throughout the course of the movie trilogy and TV series all takes place after the book series ends! These upcoming films will serve as a sequel. I actually had a theory about this awhile back, but I'll get into that later.

The confirmation comes from director Nik Arcel, who told IGN:

“It is, in fact, a continuation. It is a canon continuation. That’s exactly what we intended and what Stephen King has signed off on.”
Sometimes it's cool to find out you were right about something you speculated on regarding a film. About a year ago King sent out a tweet with an image of the Horn of Eld, which is what sparked my theory. If you've read the books, then you know the significance of that. If you aren't familiar with the books, let me explain.

At the end of the final book, The Dark Tower, after Roland's journey and he reaches the tower he realizes that he has done this all before. Roland comes to find out that he has made this trip to the tower countless times. The thing is, every time he has made this journey it has been different for him. It just keeps resetting for him.

When everything resets for him at the end of the final book Roland finds himself at the start of his journey in the first book. Only this time there's something different, he has something that he never had before. That something is the Horn of Eld. Once he realizes what he has, the voice of the character Gan tells him, “This is your promise that things may be different, Roland – that there may yet be rest. Even salvation.”

The promo photo that King released came with the caption, "Last Time Around", which leads me to believe that this film series will be Roland's final journey! This will be the last time that things won't reset for Roland! I'm a huge fan of the book series so right now, I'm more excited than ever to see The Dark Tower movie!

If you've never read the book series, don't worry. The film series has been structured in a way that it will stand on its own, and you won't have to know everything about the books. Of course, If you are familiar with the books it might be a little more fun to watch.

The Dark Tower opens in theaters on August 4th.

Two of Salim Mehajer's businesses placed into administration

Salim Mehajer's fall from grace has deepened, with 9NEWS able to exclusively reveal that two of his businesses have been placed into administration.
It is yet another blow for the controversial former deputy mayor of Auburn Council, with two of his property development companies now in the hands of administrators.

The 31-year-old has made a habit of flaunting his apparent wealth in the past, and today was still travelling in a Range Rover and wearing gold rimmed sunglasses when he made no comment to 9NEWS when asked about his business woes.

Mr Mehajer first hit the limelight as the flamboyant deputy mayor of Auburn Council in Sydney's west, with his infamous lavish wedding catapulting him to national prominence.

The ceremony featured a fleet of helicopters and sports cars and saw a street closed off for the over-the-top party.

As his profile grew, the property developer even announced his plans to one day be prime minister.

But in just the latest scandal to hit the besieged former politician, his property development businesses are in dire financial trouble.

9NEWS has obtained documents that show his two companies, Sydney Project Group and SET Services, have this week been placed in the hands of administrators.

Mr Mehajer is the major shareholder in both businesses, and was a directors until last year until ASIC banned him from being a company director to "safeguard the public interest".

It has been a turbulent couple of years for Mr Mehajer, who is also currently on trial accused of electoral fraud to win his place on Auburn Council, and is facing separate charges of assault relating to a nasty run in with a female television reporter.

His marriage to his wife and former fellow company director, Aysha, has also broken down.

Mr Mehajer has indicated he will release a statement regarding his businesses' fall into administration later today.

Australia’s most heavily fined drivers

Australians spend roughly $1 billion dollars on speeding fines in a single year, Wheels has calculated.

Derived from state-by-state figures, the headline number indicates the current focus on speeding from road safety experts and police is generating plenty of cash for the state governments, and the tally is set to grow.

Victoria remains the most heavily-fined state, with over $350 million poured into the state’s coffers during the 2015-16 financial year.

The $356,469,497 in revenue was collected by Victoria’s network of fixed speed and red-light cameras alone, meaning fines collected by police with radar guns and mobile units are not included.

Queenslanders are next on the list, with almost a quarter of a billion dollars being collected from the state’s motorists.

The Courier Mail reports that $225,965,591 was raked in by police in 2015, an increase of $15 million (or 80,000 fines) in a single calendar year.

Meanwhile Australia’s most populous state, New South Wales, was third on the list, with over $175 million being raised in fines during the 2015-16 financial year.

Police issued $75,201,927 of those fines during traffic stops, while fixed speeding cameras collected an extra $103,394,365 from the state’s drivers.

South Australia wasn’t far behind though, with a report from the Australia Institute stating $174 million in revenue was raised during the 2014-15 financial year, equating to an average of $103 per person that was nabbed.

In Western Australia, revenue from speeding and red-light fines is channelled into the Road Trauma Trust Fund, which uses that money to improve driver safety.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports just under $110 million was raised by speeding fines in WA during the 2015-16 financial year.

As Australia’s smallest state, Tasmania sits at the bottom of the list. Justice Department figures quoted by The Advocate newspaper show just $950,499 was collected in revenue from all speed camera infringements in 2015.

On a per-capita basis, South Australian drivers were the worst hit.

Using 2016 population stats, SA residents paid on average over $100 each in fines per year. Next was Victoria with an average of $58 in fines per person, ahead of Queensland ($46), Western Australia ($41), New South Wales ($22), and Tasmania ($2).

Very happy with how the Merc performed on the happy laps this morning. Neck and neck with a Megane 265 is not too bad for a diesel. I think a tune is next on the list
