Hey does anyone out there have a Navara d40 with surging issues and loss of power it is a manual 2011, Thailand build.
It has just spent 2 days at Nissan and they reckon they can't find anything wrong with it.
When I drove away from Nissan it still had its surging issues.
Any ideas? dunno.gif

Have u drained/replaced fuel filter recently. Could be contaminated fuel. Spanish D40s had a lot of problems with fuel pressure relief valves also. Those 2 things I can remember at the moment that were common problems.

thanks for that, forgot to mention only have these issues when vehicle is cold. When it surges, I pull over turn off, turn it back and most times it fixes itself. Nissan was saying that when I turn it off the computer resets itself.
I have also been told it could be the fuel senses.

I would say its the fuel pressure relief vavle. Nissan can check its operation with the scan tool

My work ute does this. POS. I just squish the clutch in, and rev its tits off a few times right up to limiter, repeat a few times. Comes good again. I still don't know what causes it, but I notice it way more when fuel is low.

I have noticed more often than not when following late model TD Nissans they just seem to pour out random clouds of black unburnt fuel, just for a second or 2 at a time, in a flat no load changing situation, just seems odd, I have seen Navaras and Pathfinders do it.

If it was a ZD30 in a patrol I would be going for a new MAF sensor as these seem to be the root of all pre grenading, but not sure Navara, but always worth cleaning all sensors and ports before doing any more in depth investigation

Hey, just an update. Took it to Nissan at Springwood and they found the problem blocked fuel filter and it needed replacing as it was very dirty. My question is it had a service by Nissan at Mt Gravatt 6000km ago and the fuel filter was supposed to have been replaced. Yeah right.

It can honestly take only one load of shit diesel to clog a filter, I was surprised the first time it happened to me, always fill up at normal places, most noticeable one was BP at Burpengary, huge place, very new, added fuel both tanks, crapped out 40 klms from there, change of filter later after that lot of fuel, all good, never happened again.

Ok, I know your ute is D40 and loads of people are saying its something to do with the fuel, but I'm going to suggest its something else if you're still having trouble. I have had this exact problem with my D22 so again different engine so I may be of no help, but I would still almost guarantee that it is your neutral position switch (if D40's have one) is on the way out or is toast.

You can test this by jumping in your ute and turning the engine over in neutral gear. Then flick your heat / high switch on. Your revs should build to somewhere near 1800 rpm then put your clutch in and move to a gear. Your revs should drop back to your ordinary idle. Usually when your NPS goes, it will only drop out in one or two gears. So if you've been noticing you've been getting surge issues in one or two particular gears then I guarantee you its your NPS.

When doing the above test, work your way from neutral and all 5 of your gears. If you notice that the revs do not drop from your higher idle when you jump into any of your gears then you will have confirmed that it is your NPS switch that's shot. Mine was surging in 2nd and 3rd gear.

If you need info on best way to source a new NPS and replace it hit me up as they don't need to be an expensive operation, but it can be a pain.

He already stated it was a blocked fuel filter. Your problem with the neutral switch only happened on the D22's, D40's have a different 6 speed gearbox where D22's have a 5 speed.

Thanks. This fixes my issue with my new ute. 3rd and 4th gear wont cause the heater to drop revs.

Also. They don't really need to be replaced, and only there for the heater. You can unplug it, and it fixes the issue. Its not like you really use the heater..
