How can you say you value their right to set conditions on the consumption of their product when you simply ignore them when it doesn't suit you?

In other news, got the aluminium struts from a gt. Looks much better, especially now that the silver vents match something!
Interesting note:
They barely keep it open. Presumably due to the gt rear hatch being polycarbonate. Fascinating that they bothered to take that into account.

I'm saying, that the conditions that are set for the consumption of a product are based on a set scale, where the reality is that people earn differing amounts, and as such should pay a different amount, that allow them to participate equally in society, instead of being forced into an hierachical pecking order

ever hear of Sweden (iirc), that fines people a sliding amount based on their salary for the same offence? that's the concept that I am extolling.

wolfman101
Post #10682

Yes I am aware of that, and am undecided on what I think of it. I believe in equality, and am thus against sliding scale taxation, especially in a means-tested support structure.
Anyway, that's all a bit far afield.
You know perfectly well that a society in which people pay for each other's products according to their earning power has never/will never/can never work, so by saying "until this impossible society comes along I am going to keep violating people's rights" is just another way of saying "I don't care, I'll do what I want".

mark1414
Post #10683

Why should people pay different prices for the same thing just because they earn more? They already pay more taxes. Also how on earth would that work? Go into bigw to buy a dvd and they ask you for your latest tax return to work out how much its gonna be?

Exactly Mark. Why should some be entitled to less help from the government despite giving the government more than most? Get your head around that one.

mark1414
Post #10686

Well I guess that comes down to your personal views but I cant see how what alpha is suggesting could ever be practical without even looking at the unfairness behind it. Also you might find the 'fines' in Sweden are a type of tax or at least thought of in a similar way. Whereas applying that concept to everyday purchases would be crazy

wolfman101
Post #10687

I doubt Alpha thinks it's possible-it's obviously not. An excuse is just needed as to why IP violation is ok, and that'll do. FFS, at least just be honest and say "I don't really care if it's immoral, I just want to not pay for stuff". That's what most people do.

Yep. Best just to be honest instead of making up some silly excuse.

Check out gas struts online, there is more to them than what you think, they are crafted precisely to stroke and weight balance, maybe get an alloy sleeve over the original ones instead, or get a CF and polycarbonate engine cover thumbsup.gif

not at all, all i'm proposing is paying an amount, based on a RRP that is set by the product maker, based on average earnings, and a sliding scale that see those who can afford to pay more do that, whislt those people who earn less pay less.

taxation would be revised on the same sliding scale, each person would pay the same proportion % wise.

then you eliminate the rich getting richer/ poor getting poorer, and the gap widening between the haves and have not.

I've told you that i'm happy to pay an amount towards a person IP. I'm also quite happy to use the system against itself in the meanwhile with no qualms what so ever, sticking it to the man in my own individual way, until equality is achieved for a more fair and equally balanced society.

Hard to see how the struts that hold the rear window would be different based on engine weight/power?
Anyway, the GT rear hatch is in the grand plan.
Seats, then ceramic brakes, then that.

Sorry, just to clarify, it is based on the weight they are meant to hold primarily, nothing to do with engine, classic clusterfk to this is when people add boot spoilers or big bonnet scoops, then spend the rest of the time struggling with boots and bonnets that won't stay up. You will notice HDT worked around this in the early days by adding a helper spring and on the Walkinshaws, bigger struts.

The gas strut design is amazing if you feel an look at the shaft you will notice while it may look cylindrical, sometimes, depending on design, it is d shaped in the middle to allow fast mid range travel.

I know you love a good bit of science, check to see if the GT one has a different Kn rating based on this formula.

To calculate the size and the force of the Gas Strut you require for your application use the following
guidelines.

The extended length of the Gas Strut should be approximately 60% of the door or hatch length -
e.g. a 1000mm high door should have a Gas Strut length of approximately 600mm.

L = Mounting distance from the hinge
H = Half the length of the door (e.g. door 1000mm long H would be 500mm)
G = Dead weight of door in Newtons (e.g. 1kg = 10 Newtons or 15kgs = 150N)
F = G x H divided by L + 15% divided by the number of Gas Struts required
E.g. F = (150*500 / 250 + 15%) divided by 2 =173N (Newtons
