Hey guys
As most of you know i crashed my vn. Well my motor (3.8L V6) and my box (t5 manual) is fine and so is all my running gear (brakes, tailshaft diff etc etc) and I was originally looking at a vn shell. Now I came across this little gem in the trader:

'Commodore Calais, 1985 sedan, all parts available, excellent cond, full Calais options, all electrics, mags, 2 1/2in exhaust, no motor or gearbox, unfinished project, will separate or sell complete'

I gave him a call and he was going to put a 304 in it but has to move overseas in 2 weeks so needs to sell. It is 100% complete with all electrics etc minus box and motor. It was originally a efi 6 so all the electrics are in place. It is missing the seats and has been sanded back to metal and primed ready for paint. All the panels are straight and clean.

He wants $650 for it, but I should be able to talk him down. Now that I have a government funded vaction (loss of lisencee) off the raods, I figured I got some time to do something.

Big questions is, Will my engine/box fit in the vk?? What do I need to get it engineered? Will my brakes etc fit in?

Any advice would be greatly acknowledged and I thankyou all in advance

Cheers
Az

Ok ... floor plan as far as i know hasnt changed in the commodores since like VB to VT? pretty much anything from the VB to VT will fit in asfaik, the only area id be wondering about would be the gearbox, it take a guess and say it'd fit but obviously call someone and ask...

I know of people using VR diffs in vls n stuff and the motor will just bolt in... same mounts... obviously you'll have to do the wireing for the ecu etc... but other then that i think it sounds like a mad conversion wink.gif iv never seen it before v8's n stuff yes but not a v6

Really, its a waste of time... You would be better off doing a decent conversion, however there are converison kits for them, dunno who makes them tho.

i dunno i rekon its a good idea, he has a weck .. with good parts and he can get a shell rather cheap so why not go for it? give him something to do and its a pretty cool project... not that exciting but not to shabby.

and it wont cost as much as going out and getting a new car... also he wont get shit for his wreck the parts are prolly worth more to him as is then selling them....

go for it... itll give you something to do..

Team performance down at Burliegh on Kortum drive should be able to help you out with that kind stuff i think hes done one of these conversions already into a VK.

Anyways..

1. The vn manual pedal assembly will go straight in right??

2. If the VK was oringally an efi 202 does that mean all the wiring for the fueltank won't be needed??

3. If I have a complete VN V6 here and next to it is a vk calais bar engine and box, will I need anyhitng else to do the conversion (i know i need different diff, tailshaft and rear disc's to the vn)...

4. (skipped)

5. I don't need pwr steering or aircon, will this reduce workload and complicatedness??

6. Will the wiring from the vn 6 be difficult to mate to the the vk?

BTW I'm goin to do this conversion, so all your help is needed

Cheers
