hey all i have been thinking about getting a turbo kit for my 2010 hilux 2tr-fe there is a kit on ebay that has everything to turbo my lux.. the guy i was talking to about it mentioned that the internals in the 2005 on hiluxs had forged rods and that the 2tr can easily be turbo"d because the internals are strong enough to withstand low boost(8psi) all day and still have the reliability of a hilux (obviously a heavy duty clutch would be installed along the way)... i use this truck everyday for work so i do a fair bit of driving. what do you think guys will i still have a reliable ute for work or will i have all the problems a pre-N/A vehicle has after a turbo is applied.. anyone done this before and how did it go??.. any info is good info cheers guys (the kit has a t28 style turbo and is top mount intercooled and standard engine management will be used) thanks a lot guys http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/hilux-tacoma-tu...=item27ca8be173 soz if this has been posted in the wrong forum category new to all this |

8psi is still pretty measly I had a laser with Mazda bpt engine running 14psi that was a rocket.. Had an r33 on 7 and it felt meeeaaasssllyyy as! |

Yeah but you're talking about an engine that was never designed for a turbo. The compression ratio is 9.6:1 from which is quite high, and is more than likely tuned quite lean. I'm not sure what type of management system it uses but it won't be tuned well for positive pressures. It might work, but you're not leaving much safety margin. I'd want to lower the compression and use management designed for boost. |

Do u think at a semi low psi it will create that many serious issues?? What does a BPT engine or a RB25 have in common with a 3RZ? Absolutely funk all, so it's not really a good comparison to make. It will be as reliable as you build if, but if you run a standard ECU you -will- run into issues. No need to lower the comp ratio. |

These engines can last a long time or not, I wouldn't bother with it if you use the car daily and need it reliable. OR go and get an aftermarket ecu and get a safe tune on low boost, I would probably wait till warranty runs out though before boosting it, although we replaced a funked diff on a v6 hilux that was obviously from skids under warranty. |

You guys know that pressure means fcuk all for a turbo it comes down to the volume output, psi is a generic term for how much pressure something has not how much air that flows through it:/ |
