Trying to decide if i should get a Victor Jr manifold or not. Looks fucking sexy but it will make the car more of a cop bait than it already is. :(

Everol 6/0, toughest overheads on the planet. I used to swear by Internationals and I still have a couple but they have slowly been replaced by Everols of various sizes.

very nice indeed. Im only just getting into the heavier overhead stuff myself. Recently got my first one, a Shimano TLD25 with a Live fibre classic-M10 10-24kg overhead. Your reel cost more than my whole setup haha but it'll do me for now. Have you been to Barwin banks before?

Nothing wrong with the TLD's at all, in fact my very first 'serious' reel was a TLD. My reels cop a pounding though so it's worth the extra expense and it's nice to not have to worry about drag settings every 5 minutes, once you set the Everols they stay set.

I've been to the banks plenty of times but you really have to pick your days carefully. I have a 34 footer and there has been more than one occasion where 10 knots has been predicted, only to get out there and have it blow up and have to beat a hasty retreat after an hours fishing, can be a rather expensive exercise! I've seen guys out there in centre consoles and half cabs that couldn't have been any bigger than 16 or 17 feet, absolute madness. Couple of charter boats have gone down out there (nevermind, I had a brain snap, was Swains I was thinking of lol, still a serious undertaking though).

I mainly fish the reefs north and east of Moreton, can still blow up quickly but Moreton provides plenty of protection if things blow up and you can always head south to Harry's etc so it's not a wasted trip. North of Moreton fires up from about November onwards, get some huge Spanish mackerel and plenty of sails and marlin if billfish are more your thing.

Where do you fish?

Yeah i havent given the TLD too much hassle yet with a big sized fish, well i have just havent got one in the boat with it yet. Doh!

A 34 footer, damn! that would be awesome. I usually go out in my mates 19 foot half cabin. We usually head just off shore from the spit(this has now proven to be pointless, no fish) or up at Caloundra/Mooloolaba. Also had a good weekend just gone at Harry's. Reason i asked about the banks is we were very keen to get out there after seeing some of the fish a mate of mine from work has caught there.(e.g. close to 40lb snapper ect) But reading your post makes me VERY wary about trying it now in our boat haha. But in saying that, its something we were only ever going to try in a group with multiple boats of at least equal or bigger size than ours, and perfect predicted conditions.

A 19 footer will do it on a good day (with a good skipper of course), one of the good things about the Barwons is that you are very rarely alone out there so if you get into trouble chances are someone will bail you out. It may not make you popular but it's better than being dead! You just have to learn to cut your losses and bolt at the first sign of inclement weather, even though you have just spent 90+ mins getting out there.

Most of the inshore Gold Coast reefs have been demolished by the charter operators, the Sunshine Coast is much better as you have probably found (although it has still been hit pretty hard), have you been to Murphy's? Plenty of big fish have been pulled from there over the years, probably the best reef for sub 20' boats in SE QLD in my opinion.

Murphys would probably only be 5nm or so north east of Caloundra (pretty much the same distance from Mooloolaba). Should be some good cobia at this time of year, just don't get them close to the boat and assume they are a shark and cut your line :P I don't know if you have ever caught cobia before but if not, the first time you bring one to the boat you will swear blind that it's a noah. Good eating too (so I'm told, not a fish fan myself).

Here are most of the GPS marks for the popular SC reefs. Inner Gneerings are worth a shot in a smallish boat too but launching from Caloundra you may as well head to Murphys anyway, The IG's are more an option from Mooloolaba.
