Monroe gas shocks in the front and adjustable gas shock in the rear. NFI what springs are in there.

The rear shocks are adjusted as high as the can go so they don't rub on the tyre, But they still do. That's what gives it, its stance.

Those hoses from you fit but they're blocked up. So I had to buy new ones which I did today and they're too short.

We have brakes!

Put the booster and lines on today and bled everything. Steering column was put back in also and the engine was fired up again but the carby wasn't squirting any fuel so I must have done something wrong when I rebuilt it so that'll be going to the local mechanic tomorrow.




The cat found use for the old drums.

I found this method to be quite affective also. Did you buy a 'new' one or re-manufactured one? Because when I was hunting around it was only $10 for brand new.

This is what i learnt. Sure, i could've had my motor finished by now, but i'd have a loan for it too. Just have patience, spend little amounts of money at a time. Get things at swap meets. Guaranteed you'd get a twin stromberg setup at toowoomba swap for half the amount you paid for that one carb.

if you paid more than $200 for that, your an idiot.

I use to buy $20 rebuild kits from repco and do it myself, get a can of degreaser and an old toothbrush, and they usually come up pretty good.

Besides, if your running a stock air cleaner, your never going to see it anyway.

I think i paid $40 for my rebuild kit from autobarn, price must of gone up. I bet theres products out there that will shine the fuck out of an original carb anyway.

I paid just under $200 for it. I know that's a lot for a stromberg and I could have rebuilt mine for that much but eh. And about the patience this is probably the only thing I wanted done asap because I wanted it running again.

Every little detail counts. Even if you can only see half of it! All original as F*ck tongue.gif

But keeping it OT. I've bought a mig and some other bits so i'll be starting on the panel work soon!

Didn't do much today. Just connected the accelerator linkage and shifter then pulled the rear axles out cause one side was leaking so they'll be sent away for new bearings and seals.

And I also bought new brake shoes and cylinder as well as the radiator support rubbers.

Why not do the bearings and seals yourself? Reasonably easy and cost efficient...

Cause I'm taking the drums to get machined so I might as well get the axles cleaned up and new bearings too.

It doesn't bother me if it's going to cost a little bit more. At least I know it'll be done right haha...

I make enough. I only have to pay 1 bill per month so basically every pay packet goes to my car.

Got my brake shoes, support panel rubbers and my mig today, and will also be picking up the drums and axles tomorrow so once that's all together that should be the last of the mechanical then onto the body work!

Got my axles back in and fitted the new brake shoes and stuff. Started sanding back my rear quarters for primer and look what we have here...



But anyway, I re-welded the other side lower side and have cut out and welded in a bit of metal above the wheel arch where there was some rust. Not bad for my first time!


And then got them in primer.

Pro-Tip.

Don't use a grinding wheel which is what it looks like you've done, buy some good files and sand paper and use that instead.

You will get a much better finish if you tack around, and then file those down until they are smooth and then go again, the less heat you put into it the better.

It does appear you haven't had much warpage, which is a good thing.. but the finishing aspect isn't that great. I would suggest going over it LIGHTLY with a flap disc, and then hand sanding it with something around 120 to get a nicer finish. You'll end up with something like this if you take your time.





Looks like a good effort though! Keep at it.

Cheers man, And yeah not done with it yet. Still have to sand it down smooth. I'm just not used to welding thin metal!

If your using a gasless mig get a gas bottle for it, you will have far better welds.

Also i find that instead of what most people do and use fuck all amps welding thin stuff, i turn it up a bit more and when tacking the panel in instead of it being cold and the weld sitting on top of the metal, because its hotter it will give you a flatter tack, which means less to grind / file and therefore less heat.

I think filing is the best way to get a good result, its slow but its a LOT more controllable and doesn't risk grinding through the weld itself and leaving a thin crack to re weld which usually leads to blowing holes.
