Hi Guys

Ive just finished swapping a sr20de into a s13 silvia and was after some information on how to register the vehicle with this engine and as a normally aspirated, p plate legal vehicle. thumbsup.gif

Im sure it isn't very hard to do, just need some pointers

Thanks a lot!

Take it to a mechanic that dos blue slips, dont tell them and they probable wont notice.

No its not.

OP, Just go to DoT, and change the engine numbers over. Thats it. Because the car was factory fitted with both turbo and NA SR20's, there is no need for a mod plate, or anything special to be done. You just have to make sure they swap the engine numbers over.

To the people who said its not legal. You're wrong. You shouldn't give advice if you dont understand.

All well and good till he runs into an amg merc and finds out his insurance is void

Fair enough rancher wasn't sure if it had to be mod plated as its a different engine thus requiring a mod plate

Its not a different engine. Its a variation of the same engine.

Thanks mate, i'm sure it's legal as well just not sure how to aproach the issue. But im sure the cars vin number will be known as being turbo, how can this be changed?

Might be a stupid question but what is DOT?

Thanks

In NSW on your Ps, you cannot drive a car with 'Modifications that increase engine performance.'

I believe I have done the opposite

so yeah,,

DOT is the Department Of Transport, which I think is called the RTA in NSW, the place where you pay regos, get drivers licences, etc. Good luck.

Just a question regarding this that I have wondered for a while - what about a GTS-T skyline, for example? Is that considered to be eligible to be NA without a mod plate (As it's an R3x which were available as NA) or is it ineligible as it was a turbo model?

its like a honda civic, D16 to a B16...

I don't think they have a record of whether a particular VIN is a turbo or non turbo model, its just an identification of that chassis. Register the engine number change, and you're done. If you get pulled up, they'll check that its a non turbo P plate legal engine, and that the engine number corresponds to your car's VIN, and you'll be free to go (Although being a P plater you've probably been pulled over for some stupid shit in the first place)
