just fucking drive it, if u get pulled over.
get a dyno tune to show its not punching out over 200kw's at the wheels.

i know a chick who had a ve wagon with the 207kw motor and she never had a problem

It isn't about dyno power... its about the official factory output.

Your chick friend is an idiot and has no insurance on lives or property.

Turbo Diesel is the way to go.

moving away from the retarded @the wheels post, OP they usually change the timing and put different cams in them, quite often you will find changes in the inlet manifold design too.

Generally speaking manufacturers will detune an engine by:
Tuning it slightly leaner
Longer intake runners/smaller plenum
Smaller duration cam
Less aggressive ignition timing

Mostly a 'detuned' engine is designed to have more torque in the low and midrange at the expense of peak power. However ome manufacturers just like to be dicks and make you buy the top end model for the most power (ie Porsche)

They aren't detuned, they don't run the same engine package as the SV6 commodores, rather the same as the Omega, whish is 190 or 195kw (can't remember off the top of my head). You can say its a detuned version of the SV6 et. but realistically, thats just the 'performance' variant. If you could use performance and Commodore v6 in the same sentence. wink.gif

Put a VN engine in it, that ought to sort you out. When they see the busted piece of crap installed they'll just laugh and let you go.

think you will find the colorado is a detuned version of the omega engine
as the colorado puts out "157kW @ 5300rpm and 313Nm @ 2800rpm".

Don't know why people bother with wasting there time to write some of the s$&t on here
Thanks again Aussiemk2 that is exactly what I'm taking about never said nothing about an engine conversion?
It's a 2009 but it doesnt have the sidi so it's a detuned 170 probably same a vz?
I love it but I was shocked when I found out it was detuned I'm not wanting rediculous power I just wanted to know what I'd need todo to make it run like a un detuned alloytech thanks to those that actually read and understood.
I'm hoping it's ignition I already have an exhaust and cai I'll have to go see chip torque see what they recon
Once again thanks to those with useful replies

they aren't really de-tuned, they are just the original holden alloytec design (vz executive motor basically).
but then combine that with the commercial gear ratios and the poorly designed intake and exhaust makes for a less powerful alloytec.
you could get around all of these things but to do that would cost a fair amount.

because when the alloytec was first released in the RA rodeo's SIDI didn't exist, and for holden to change the colorado's to SIDI now would cost a fair bit.
a cost that obviously gets passed on to the buyer, and when you consider that 80% of colorado buyers now are tradesman/large company's that aren't really intrested in the added power, torque, and economy an SIDI colorado just wouldn't sell enough for holden to make a profit.
but in saying that i don't know if the new colorado's will be SIDI or not, we will find out soon i suppose.
i also think it's a shame that the new aus spec colorado's won't be released with a V8....

Are you aware the vz has 170kw, and gear ratio's have zero to do with factory quoted power figures.
