Ok so I am looking at buying either a LWB GQ or LWB 60 series to tow the boat and cart the family about , what I want to know is whats best . had a few drives of the GQ and it feels more car like and user friendly than the more truck like cruiser , but I have heard the 4.2 petrol motor in them is prone to doing the head . so what would be your choice and why . my budget is about $7000

Ok so is the 4.2 petrol in the Patrol a more robust motor than whats in a 80 series ? I really dont want a diesel . whatever I buy will need six seats . the older model cruisers were prone to rust out are the newer ones the same ? and is there anything I should be looking for that are common problems with either the GQ or 80 series ? |

No the 1FZ toyota petrol shits all over the TB42 in every way and is regarded as one of the most bombproof petrol motors around, they like a drink, but still not as much as a TB42, go better too. |

Ok so whats the better bus in the bush ? standard with maybe a set of 33's fitted , will mainly be used for towing the boat with the odd beach launch and fairly tame 4 wheel driving |

Thanks for the feed back fellas , sounds like its six of one and half a dozen of the other . I have owned 4x4's before so I know all about how thirsty they are , and how they handle like a house brick on the road . But I drive 308 powered Kingswoods for dailys so it wont be much different lol . now I am currently looking at GQ and 80 series wagons but both are duel fuel which seems to be a no no , both in very good condition both priced at $7500 . Are landcruiser parts as expensive as people say ? and which is the easiest for the home mechanic to service/repair |

Honestly there is no harm in running gas, I highly recommend it, as long as you run the right spark plugs and have an upper cylinder lubricant setup, and just make sure your cooling system is up to scratch. It's no big deal. Drive a petrol 80 or GQ around for a week and you will be thankful for the gas. A 308 is a proud compared to these 4wds dude. |

I might have missed it, but why cant OP buy a N/A diesel GQ ? overcomes fuel issues right there, and you have a diesel, win win. Might not be able to pick up a super tidy one like you would buying the cheaper petrol's but worth it imo. Nothin at all wrong with the GQ TD42 diesels They are unfortunately the prime , and have a massive demand base This is forcing the prices skyward IF its a reasonably low K , well kept example and a later end model GQ, ya wont get one in your budget The early TB42 (petrol) GQs are the cheap petrol version, the later end TB42 EFI are up there in prices TD42 economy 1o-15L/100Ks (depending) You could go an RB30 or a RD28 diesel These are the cheaper end GQ |

I have a 60 series cruiser and wouldnt swap it for a gq or 80 series. Its drives like a truck which i love. takes me, the 3 kids and wife out bush on weekends no worries and with a seat upgrade is comfortable on the longer touring trips as well. 2h is slow but nothing a turbo wont fix and getting around 11.5L/100ks im not complaining bout the fuel either. 7K will near get you a factory t/d 60 series sahara. Leaf springs rnt that bad and with the right spring and shock combo can be quite comfortable and give you plenty of flex as well. |

I don't get why there is so much hate for 60ser cruisers, my mate bought a gq just after i bought my fj62, they were the same year model, stock suspension, and road tires, we went the same tracks, struggled at the same points and there wasn't a climb that he couldn't get through that i couldn't either. The only difference is how much we spent on buying them. |

just about given up on getting a 60 series they all seem to be rusted out hulks , looked at a couple of more GQ's but they both had real hard lives going by the undersides of them . Looking at a 97 Jeep Cherokee monday , any thoughts on these ? |
