So, you're wondering the fastest and easiest way to get 300hp out of your SR20DET Silvia / 180SX / 200SX?

The key is the turbo and getting a larger one... like a T28 from an S14, along with a 3" exhaust from the turbo back (not cat back), so that you can hold 1bar (14psi) of boost all the way to redline.

But I'm looking for other people's opinions, as I was just wondering other people's experiences about how to get arounds the 300hp mark with my 180? I want to do this on the tightest possible budget, and considering my existing mods.

Currently running:
SR20DET
3inch straight through exhaust
Front mount intercooler
Electronic Dual stage boost controller (only running low boost atm)
K&N podfilter
GFB bov

Also how much PSI do you think I could run on this at the moment with out it being too lethal on the engine?

Any opinions would be great, mods and a rough cost!
Cheers

You'll need a T28 turbo (if you don't have an S14/S15), preferably a JDM S15 T28 ball bearing turbo (as opposed to the brush bearing ones we have here).

That, plus a nistune board with an 18psi tune should be enough for 190rwkw'ish, which is around that 300hp @ the motor mark.

You'll need a bigger turbo, which means a new fuel pump/injectors/ECU and tune.

I'd run a 2871r with a .63 RH. Friends makes 220kw @ 17psi with 740cc injectors and a walbro 550hp pump.

You'll never make 300hp @ RW with standard turbo.

Old S15 made a nick under 310 at the rears, 19psi, standard injectors. Not healthy at all, leaning out, needed bigger injectors, so dropped it back to 16psi for street.
This was with the T28BB on blacktop motor

I would recommend going a 2871r if your chasing that 300+hp at the treads, but at the end of the day it's just a number

True true, if I where to head towards achieving this what order would be best to do it in?
Pump
Injectors
Turbo
Comp?

Cheers

Also what psi do you think I cam run with my current set up? Atm it's 7psi on low and yet to set high boost

Get pump etc and a tune with what you have now and see how the car feels to you, then go from there

If you cant do it all in one hit, this. Its going to end up costing you more in the long run though.

Go see East Coast Customs. Will provide you with Nismo 550cc injectors, Z32 AFM, Nistune ECU and retune for a reasonable price. You just need to provide the fuel pump and reg. Then later on down the track you can step up to a 2871 and retune again for the 300hp.

BoostedDave
Post #10

It will cost more doing it seperately, but by the time you add it all up, thats a good chunk of $ you have to part with at one time, if you get it tuned with its current mods and just add a pump + reg. in there he may even be happy with what it ends up making and how the car drives for him then??

Might ad, friends S13 makes 341 @ 20psi, running 2871r and supporting mods

My setup with standard turbo got me 248.4rwhp (185kw) and it was just leaning out way too much,

You need these:

T2871r
Fuel pump
Z32 AFM
Injectors (650cc+)
Nistune
FMIC
Exhaust

Mine is making 330+hp (245kw) with cams.

Socal: I was defs recomended the 650 or 740s by Rob at East Coast cause they know how they perform

I made 315fwhp @ 21psi with the following (list is kinda getting repetitive smile.gif ):
2871r
Fuel pump and reg
550cc injectors
ECU
And supporting mods (cooler, exhaust etc), as well as a full rebuild etc.

I'd leave the bigger turbo until last as it's virtually dependant on all the other stuff.

Cheers lads, does anyone know what the max psi I could safely run in it's current state? Then I could set my high boost up with this... Also what's the biggest hp you can get with the stock turbo?(out of curiosity)

Agreed, perfect combo

That said... I tuned a GTX3071R with T28 0.86 rear housing this afternoon. 231rwKw on 16psi with a safe tune with 550cc injectors at 80%DC on 3.5bar base rail pressure. 11.2 AFR's so there was a LOT more potential in it lol

Fuel pump and computer first, it gets good results and ensures your motor is running at its best wink.gif You may even decided that this is enough power for you for a few months while you save for injectors and turbo

11psi on stock turbo if S13 T25 turbo. S14 or S15 turbo is good for a safe 14psi, but make sure you have atleast a good fuel pump ready to go. I have been using the Deutschwerks or Aermotive fuel pumps, they are same size as the Walbros BUT flow 30% more fuel

Saweet I'm onto a fuel pump already, although I have no idea in regards to the comp? Any leads here would be awesome!

I can't recommend East Coast they blew my SR20 and after a 6k rebuild I was left with a car only 2/3 tuned. I ended up having to take it to GT Auto Garage to get fixed.

Personally I think a 2871r is too big for 300hp. If 300hp is all you want then a Disco Potato (aka GT2860RS) is not only going to be cheaper but it will be more responsive and 'punchy' than the GTRS (aka 2871r)

but like the others have said some bigger injectors atleast the 550cc but for an extra $10 you might as well get the 740cc ones incase you want to go more power down the road. a fuel pump and a ECU tune.

for that power a reflashed NISTUNE ECU is ideal. You should EASILY make the 300hp mark with this set up with more response than the bigger 2871r.

So what is actually involved with the ecu? Are there any plug in systems that make it simple? Or are you best to leave it all up to a shop to fit and tune? Anyone got a rough figure on doing the ecu and tune? Cheers for the help so far, it's dream crushing but helpful

nistune is a plug in(well solder in) daughterboard to the stock ECU, it allows you to modify the factory tune file and rescale for bigger injectors, while adjusting the fuel and ignition tables, along with idle, throttle enrichment etc, Can also adjust rev limiters etc.

There's always more to the story, they seem to be fine with my brothers car?
566hp on a standard crank/bore sr.

I would not be proud of that power output graph.... Peak number is decent but fuck, the response curve and area under the curve is TERRIBLE!

Edit: 34psi... with that ramp speed... with the weatherstation off... explains a lot wink.gif

^^ 58.9 degree intake temp probe temps... LOL

Welcome to about 350rwRWKw(thats rear wheel REAL WORLD Kilowatts)

I also like to have full boost before 3/4 of my rev range is used up(Say 8000rpm rev cut, the engine is not getting boost until 6000rpm based on road speed being 3/4 of the final rev cut speed)

This is almost as bad as another dyno shop when they had their 1000rwHp VE ute with 200 degree intake temps(intake probe sitting next to the exhaust manifold)

dyno sheet sr20 with gt30r,mt8,850 inj afrs at 11.3 and 8degs of timing so safe tune.

i havent read everything everyone has posted but it not boost of hp that will hurt a sr20det, its the tune. Unless your trying to achieve 30psi and 500 hp then thats different.

I am aiming for the 280-300rwhp mark and this is what i am doing

bosch 040 pump
you will can get away with the 444cc injectors that will take you to 280-290hp and still be safe they max out around the 310ish mark. - i have a set for cheap if your interested.
Turbo upgrade a t28bb will take you to round 280hp reliable, i would go a disco potato or 2871r if you want over 300
leave the standard fuel reg
nistune or maybe a power fc

a tune at 20psi can be really reliable but i tune on 14psi that is crap can be devastating for the motor.

For the cost id go with around the 280hp mark, all you need in 444cc injectors and a t28 s14 or s15, ive had both no difference like 200rpm spool better in the t28bb s15 but seriously thats nothing, you can get a good s14 t28 for $180 in the sale section, also you can rebuild the s14 t28 you cannot rebuild the ball bearing ones.

dyno king said *got 289hp out off s15 with ems ecu and pump, stock turbo, stock inj,put reg on it and fmic it had 16psi will put up dyno print out when i get it out off dyno monday. *

His talking about the same injectors i have the sale. and stock turbo is the t28bb, i hav heard people pushing t28's up to round 18psi and have lasted but me personally i would go as high as 16psi this way it will last.
the extra 20 hp will cost another 1000 in turbo and another 300 in injectors but its what you want just my advice

Yes you can make 300hp on 444cc injectors and all that little stuff, but I personally would use bigger items all round so they are all not under a large amount of strain/usage capacity.

yeah, but im not just talking about injectors. Turbo as well. Why use a T28 or a GT2871 working its tits off to make that power, go bigger, run less boost. It's all about efficiency. Do it right, do it once.

hay like the others I don't like ecc much. spent a load of money for simple mods current tune is terrible going to 101 or efi to get it retuned. plus the workmanship isnt impressive either

^^ What sort of work?

I've been using since ive had my car on the road. I've never used another workshop and don't intend too. I have found their service to be excellent and my tunes have always been great. Making plenty of power with reliability. With every workshop you here horror story's, but there are always small details that the story teller leaves out.

444cc injectors are at 100% duty cycle around 310iswrhp, thats why i recommended to run them at 280hp, so this way there is room for bad fuel etc with problems being created. a t28 can run 280hp at round 16psi, and still be a good turbo for the job, mine ran this for years and never had a problem i know dozens of others on sr20det forums which have done the same for years and still running them

Ideally you don't really want your injectors over 80% duty cycle, yes they can do it, but its not ideal.

Yes, a t28 can run 280hp, but why run the turbo on its highest setting. All turbo's have an efficiency range, and whilst people are doing it, there are better, and more efficient ways of doing it (on lower boost). Lower boost = lower temps = running better/longer/more efficiently/longer.
