Hi Guys, I am thinking about doing a Holden 5L engine conversion into my GQ Patrol. Is there any disadvantages of this and who are the best people to talk to about pricing and so in within the SOuth Brisbane/Gold Coast Area. Any help and advice would be great Thanks in advance |

RB30ET's which are a stupid thing to put in a patrol Yep your right there But try telling all the wannabees re the conversion , as i mention itll cost whatever it has to Depending on as you know, contacts, parts prices and getting on the spanners Its a very common topic over at patrol4x4.com A bitta reading will reveal , alot think that its a cheap conversion, and are shocked at what some do end up costing |

lol at all u fuckers hating on the rb30et conversion, my mates one is sick and is just as fast as any v6 commodore out there, and wen his engine breaks we just buy a $300 VL, swap the engines over then scrap the VL for $300. take me a weekend of drinking beers and eating pizza to do it,he did his entire conversion for less then 2g, thats including exhaust and fuel system. good luck gettin any v8 for that much |

"my mates one is sick" is the first clue, and "it beats any v6 commodore out there" was the second one. Youll find that in the 4WD section we use our cars to GO OFFROAD. Not race v6 commodores like some dickhead flat-capper, champ. Theyre a stupid engine for a 4WD because youve gotta rev the fuck out of them to make power. Not that handy when you are cruising up 45 degree inclines, or trying to pull someone out of something. Way to make yourself sound like.... a douche. |

thanks! couldn't find it anywhere hows that compare to an RB? Surprisingly, the difference is minimal maybe 10Kg difference. Mainly due to the extra hollow sections in the block for water galleries etc and the rotating mass having negible difference. Similiar thing with the Nissan VQ35... no one would suspect that a 3.5L V6 weighs less than an SR20DET |

I think you will find that is because they are an easy, cheap way to make high end hp. Not because they are better than a big turbo diesel. You grenade an rb30et, you just pull one from a vl or whatever and throw you bolt ons back on. Turbo diesel isn't quite as cheap. Good competition engine. But don't compare to a v8 or turbo diesel for torque no matter what anyone tells you. They're only good at high revs and wide open throttle, and like I said- cheap. |

Turbo diesels have lots of TORQUE They dont need to rev to 7-8,000 RPM to get their power RB30 t , have to rev The ONLY advantage goin an RB30 Vs a 4.2 turbo diesel,is as mentioned the cost To rebuild a diesel injection pump alone , should buy a yard full of 2nd hand Vl dunnydores 330 HP at the wheels Got a dyno print out ??? |
