Hi guys i have a 308 out of a VK and im trying to work out what engine I have but the engine number i can see is QE20000261, I did a search and there didnt seem to be a 308 with those numbers, does anyone know anything about this and what i may have?

Correct me if i am wrong, but I thought the VK was a 304?

As wattsy put it a few years ago, the 308 ended with the metal bumpers in the commodores.

'84 VKs were 308s and the '85-6 were 304.

the engine number should start with V then another letter such as an A then 6 numbers

eg. VA123456

The number you've quoted could be a part number for something or it's possible that the motor had been stolen, recovered and restamped.


EDIT: Just found this to give you a bit of an idea.

QE was prefix for the 173..............

Sure it's not QT?

As they were the early 308's in HQ's etc.....

It is definitly QE and it came out of a VK i dont know if it was the original engine that came in it or not. So if at some stage it had been stolen in its lifetime recovered and re badged how do i find out if it is ok to use?

they also ask for the engine number. It would be pointless if they didn't ask because you can easily swap a motor from a stolen car into a good one.

Yeah i looked there and didnt find any QE so thats why i was asking here thought someone may know something different
