Im currently driving a 3l diesel non-turbo 99 extra cab 4x4 and am looking to upgrade to a later model with the newer front end but same general shape. Looking on the net at the 2004ish models the 3.4 seems like a good sized engine. Has anyone had any experiences with this enginge paired with the 5 speed manual? Fuel wise and power wise? Troubles? Any help would be great thanks . Oh also my main reason for getting rid of the diesel is i do a fair bit of highway driving and it uses a shit load of juice and doesnt even sit on 100 going through some slight hills

The 3L shouldn't use a huge amount of fuel, certainly a vast amount less than the 3.4, this threads the first time iv heard of someone wanting to go from diesel to petrol for economy reasons.

As above turbo it, zaust and tune almost essential for a diesel imo, more power better fuel consumption.

From the bits and pieces iv read and just lightly taken on board the 3.4L isn't much chop, doesn't go very well and loves a drink.

3.4l v6 are thirsty mother fucker. don't expect to improve your fuel economy. expect to double it going to petrol

as mentioned - turbo what you have, exhaust and adjust pump accordingly and you should be fine.

i get 500-550km out of a 2.8Lt 3L diesel single cab hilux 4x4 that always has 300kg of tools in the back. bit of a slug up steep hills but its a ute, not a race car.

My 3.4 goes great plenty of power, but god it's thirsty.. I get roughly 450km out of a full tank which costs about $110...
