Is it worth doing a coil conversion on the rear and how hard would it be?

I think you should research your facts before you make such a bold (and untrue) claim mate!!

Getting coils into the rear of a hilux is a simple as getting a surf rear cut and welding it all in.
Its getting the coils to work well that is the tricky part.
For the time, money and stress involved in doing it, I wouldn't bother when you can get leaves to work just as well if you know what you are doing...

Got a mate with a dual cab hilux that has leaf with coils all round. Just has some thin leafs with coils going from top on leaf to the body. Has pretty good flex

I was refering to the "won't be legal in QLD" part!!
Keep head butting that wall, you may just knock some sense into yourself!!

Plenty of good off the shelf kits available mate, it all comes down to budget!
Bang for buck though, get a set of rear springs out of an IFS hilux ($100 at most wreckers) and a set of 200mm shackles and you will have decent amount of flex.
Add a decent set of shocks (bilsteins) and "A Frame" them, and it will give you all the flex you need!

the problem is do you want to modify your truck to a point where it will be forced off the road with un reversable mods. putting in massive shackles or even drop shackles if pulled up by dot are easily removed and passed. doing a 4/5 link a frame etc is always going to end in it becoming a trailer queen. theres some back yard blokes that do crap quike jobs. then theres some that are awesome but you wont see ya truck for a min of 6 months. my mate went through all this crap with his GU ute. leaf to a frame to 5 link to 4 link then he gave up and sold it cos he knew it was worth nothing now. i got a good buy. honestly the best i saw that truck was with the orig susp set up but with twin lockers. did more than my massive flex rear locked GQ wagon could do. like i said do some expriments with leafs. parabolics, semi eleptical. the drop shackles i would of thought would be cool with massive big bore shocks. in the end if you twin lock some thing there is nearly nothing you wont keep upto on a normal day run. then at end of day cops pull you over and they have nothing to say.

This man knows his shit!! thumbsup.gif

At the end of the day mate, $1500 in suspension, $2500 in lockers (air) and another grand for new bush's and miscellaneous bits and pieces and you will have a near unstopable hilux.
As opposed to spending 10k + on a quality coil conversion that will have more flex for photo's but essentially will only ever get you thru the same tracks that leaves will, only comfier.
