Just a couple of shots from NYE2010 with the Ray Flash! Done zero PP on these apart from resizing.

As always - best seen on a calibrated monitor.

#2 is the best.

Speaking of rayflash, I've got a knock off and (from what I've read) They're identical bar better materials and no doubt umpteen times better QA but I seem to loose about 2 stops of light through it, how's the proper rayflash go?

I'm thinking of getting an Orbis as they seem to be that liiiiiiiiiittle bit better design-wise, not having all the extra running plastic that the rayflash does and a bit better build in the connector to the camera (being metal etc..) and being adaptable to all sorts of flashes etc..

Do you find yours wobbles on the flashhead and needs to be re-adjusted a fair bit?

I've heard the knockoffs almost do the same, alot of them lose light towards the bottom of the unit, but I can't be certain as I don't have one. As for stops - nup, I don't lose any at all. It's a tight fit on the 580EX, but at the same time, there's a plastic inbuilt twist securing thingy that locks it in place. Nick - you sure your light is moving and it's not the flash on the hotshoe?

Yeah dude, 580ex2, locks into the shoe - what I mean is the ringmod actually slips about on the flash head, my knock-off doesn't have any rubber so that'd be an easily 'There's your problem right there' fix.

No light difference? Have you taken two images at say, a wall sweeping away from you with the flash bare & ringmod on? You HAVE to lose SOME light!

Did a night trip around BNE last night for 4 hours. Visited various locations: New Farm, Eagle St, Mt Cootha, Victoria Point, Wellington Point. Definately do it again with more CBD stuff. I mainly just wanted to get out of the house.

Pretty much. Wanted to get out of the house on Sunday. Couldn't find any car shows on or anything like that, so I just headed to the spit. Weather was nice as!

Well image 10 of the night time series on your website, there is one star right in the middle that annoys me...

But apart from that, there pretty cool.

I think the bolded part really spells it out. Only thing regarding olives is the picture, nothing else. Stuffed if I know what they taste like?

It's been an epic Saturday folks... here was my itinerary:
3.15am - wake up
3.16am - post on facebook about the fact that this was the most stupidist idea I've had for a while
3.17am - shower
3.25am - sitting on the edge of the bed, half dressed (pants around knees) wondering if I should go back to sleep
3.30am - coffee made - depart
4.15am - made it to Wello Point...2 pictures:

The "infamous" tree of Wellington Point - only accessable during low tides. Wish the wind didn't move it around so much.

Overlooking Raby Bay towards Stradbroke Island

6.00am - start to drive home...realised I didn't bring the spare pack of smokes. Cursed the Gods.
7.00am - arrived home, decided to wash the car
7.30am - car tucked away, decided to have a swim to wake up - heard a bang from downstairs
8.10am - started to edit the pictures above
9.00am - discovered that the can of coke zero I put in the fridge last night and forgot about had blown up. Cursed the Gods.
9.01am - went to sleep

11.00am - woke up, mopped up the remains of the thawed coke that I threw out of the freezer at 9am.
11.05am - decided to watch Clerks 2
1.00pm - realised the time, went to Digital Camera Warehouse
1.20pm - bought a Cokin ND grad starter kit, wide angle fitter and a 62mm adapter ring. Was told they didn't have any 77mm rings in stock for my 10-22mm...Cursed the Gods.
1.30pm - arrived at Photo Continental. Hot chick thought I was a "normal camera shopper" until I blurted "where are the cokin 77mm ring adapters for the p-series kits?" She shut hte fuck up after that. Scored a ENELOOP starter pack - $49
2.00pm - arrived at home with some Maccas...the 1st thing I had to eat all day
2.10pm - farted
2.12pm - bumbled around the house
4.30pm - decided now was the time to leave to go to Lake Moogerah. Inputted the GPS info, almost shit myself when I saw that it was 101kms away. FUCK!
5.50pm - arrived at Lake Moogerah. Took note that two faggots on a picinic blanket were cooking lunch. Made note to myself that if I heard grunting later on, they decided to shove each others shit in, in which case, I would leave while yelling out "YOU ARE NOT GODS CREATION HEATHENS!"
6.45pm - decided I'd taken enough photos, time to go home
8.10pm - edited some pictures, picked out 2 I liked best

Forboding clouds

Epic cloud formations.

8.30pm - chatted with a friend on MSN. Found out some interesting things about them I never knew.
and fast forward....
10.00pm - started to type this post, now hitting "add reply"

Hey Nick - I know you like to do product style pics - you got your own whitebox setup?

Nick_
Post #170

Yeah but never use it, I just use a big piece of cardboard I got from that art shot near Kmart at chermside shops. Or the black one of the same size.

The white box thing isn't all it's cracked up to be, I'd rather just gobo the shit out of an item. I got foamcore white boards too I can use as flags/reflectors. Cost like $2ea from Spotlight and are A4 sized.

P.s. I like the first shot better, sky is much more defined and more broody. Not real keen on the heavy vignette though..

Benny_boy92
Post #171

I love how you recorded the time when you farted....

OT: Love the very first picture, clouds look epic!

Dont go whitebox setup unless your doing really small items. I made one out of a shoe box, cut all white paper in it to fit it perfectly, but i get better results with cardboard. I'm like nick...I have 2 pieces of white cardboard...Lean one up against a wall and the other on the desk. Works fine. Then just ad in some reflectors! Bam!

Hoon
Post #172

Oh, I don't need one, I was just wondering how other people have their setups. I was at Photocontinental and saw this pretty cool briefcase setup. Folds out to a complete mini-whitebox with reflectors and inbuilt lights. Pretty damn nifty.

Excited for tonight. Ducatti 1098S shoot with model in a garage. Keep your eyes peeled.
