 Tyres For 20s On A Vs Ute

ive got 19"s sorted,

but with 20s it confuses me



who HAS HAD 20s on a vs before.. what clears the struts etc

do i need something like 225/35/20s?



(ps the wheels im looking at are 8.5"s)

20's will fit easy.

i have had 20X8.5 on my vs commodore, but i was running 245 30 20's
and they cleared by miles.

well i tried on a mates fake VE GTS wheels and i think it had 245/35/20s.. and they were an inch too big (ive got 245/35/19s on it so the tyres were the same size, just one inch larger


do the 245/30/20 make enough size difference over the 245/35/20?


i was going to get like 225/35/20 or osmething just to be extra safe?

looks like it's sitting really high in that photo - would you have still cleared if the car was lower?

245/35/20's are too big are are illegal on a vs and are VE fitment only.



you can run either a 225/35/20 or a 245/30/20 and it will be legal aslong as it has the right load ratings.

might have to roll the guards on the ass. but it will still clear the struts in the front.

Ppl need to learn that offset is going to be the major determining factor in whether wheels will rub or not.

So, what offset are the wheels you're looking at?

well in general, if they where made for a commodore/ pre AU series 3, then they should be about a 40P offset which will be fine.

since commdore is one of the only cars in australia with a PCD of 5X120, it a safe bet they will be the right off set.

ok, i should have said australian MADE.


yes BMW uses 5X120 and so does some lamborghini's (bet ya didn't know that one)



maybe i should have been a little bit more clear, most wheels made in 5X120 in aus will have an offset of around the 40P mark.
just about all after market rim have there offset stamped into the back of the rim.





so if his rims are 8.5X20 with a offset over around 40P then they will fit..

So do Range Rover's old Lotus's. My point being was Beemers use an offset of around +35 or lower. And a lot of drive-in drive-out wheel shops stock large rims to suit euro's. So it's worth checking to make sure.

225/20's wont have the correct load rating. 235 or 245/30/20 do and will fit under the struts.. 35 profile will rub on the struts..

I have a set of 245/35/20 here on Commodore rims if ya want to try them on ya car and see..

yes, trail fitment is very important. so u should always fit a rim to at least one of thr front wheels, as the front is the most likely place where the wheel will foul.
and beside, i wouldnt buy from a shop that would just throw any one wheel on with trial fitment.

cheers but ive tried 245/35/20s on the front and they dont fit.. but fit on the rear (its a ute)



ive found some cheap 225/35/20s on ebay that are load rated aswell.. would it be safer to just get the smallest tyre just to be sure? rather than a 245 and be fucked over?

the ssvs under my vs have 245/40/19s.... :)
to make bigger tyres fit you need to knock the top of the shock guard in so its curves over the tyre and doesnt just cut straight across it. however i will be gettin lower profile tyres when these wear out, shame they came new :/

yeah i wasnt really a fan of smashing the strut that holds all the weigh of the car on it

they are hitting because they are the wrong size.


they should be a 245/35/19. the 245/40/19 are a VE fitment only. will not suit pre ve commodore.

I deal with this everyday...

245/30R20 tyres will clear the struts on a 40~45p rim. This is the preferred tyre size for PRE VE Como's

that isnt the part of the strut that holds weight it acts as a deflector for the shock arm.
