Im thinking about putting a 25 head on my rb30 n/a is it worth it or would it be a wast of time?
Cheers Ryan.

If its N/a I would go with yes its a waste of time. If you were turboing it I would go with no its well worth it. but the cost would not really be worth it. a single cam Rb30 can be a great engine.

waste of time, look at the likes of gh0747 who got in a 7.92 @ 166mph yesterday still on a single cam, minitubbed and only running a small slick, and numerous other cars running 8-9 second passes easily with single cam jobs

twin cam is over rated, you can punch plenty of power from a single cam rb30 without to much trouble!

I would do it for something a bit different, get it tuned, run individual throttle bodies and it would be a sweet n/a 3L.

There's a couple around, the R31 forum has a guy with 247rwhp from an NA Rb25/30 (big big big dollars spent).

Enjoy the sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSweNBZzoYE

meh that was a boring couple of minutes but i did stumble upon the tommy kaira M30 from there which subsequently destroyed several pairs of underwear, never have i heard a N/A 3L sound so unbelievably pornographic

You aint heard nothing yet!

THIS sounds pornographic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3550wXZHqkw

3.1 L28 > RB30DE because NA RBs suck donkey balls.

The really tough 3.1 L28s make well over 100hp/litre.

A DOHC RB30 swap is pretty much a waste of time in anything other than an GT-R or R33+ GTS-T. In VLs and R31s you are infinitely better off strapping a turbo on the RB30E.

Pretty sure if the best aptitude you have for it is barely stringing together a coherent question on boostcruising, in the general section, chances of you having a) the ability or  the cash to execute it in a useful fashion are pretty low anyway.

Single cam head with bullshit amounts spent on it, or do a twincam conversion and have the same flow untouched. I guess if you like playing with a poorly designed head with 52cc combustion chambers to begin with then the SOHC is ok...

I like 654cc combustion chambers

These cars running 7's with the single cam RB30 must have some sort of head work to flow enough air to make that sort of power?? Surely the general consensus is that if its a turbo application, then the twin cam swap is worth it, but if it is a dreamer with an n/a motor, its not.

Not that I'm an expert or anything on the subject, but from my experinces with single cam RB30's you need to turn them hard very hard to make big power, the best thing about GH0747 is how much is not done to it and how reliable the thing is.....

NA they don't make any power, the head and bottom end are both not suited to it, forced induction the difference between an RB30ET and RB30DET at the same power level is about 3psi higher and $3000 in favour of the ET.

Yeah lots of head porting and match porting of head and manifolds and a big cam. The $$$$ to do the porting ends up be being more than the twin cam head by far.

This is true.

No one is saying they (SOHC) can't make big power but more power can be made easier with a twincam head, its really common sense I guess. Otherwise you can wring the neck (so to speak) out of a SOHC for decent results but it's always a compromise when twincam heads are plentiful and cheap.
