Any sensible, normal person would treat a new car (turbo'd or not) with care when first driving it. During this short period of getting used to an unfamiliar car, said person will learn when boost is going to come on and how to respond when it does happen (or how to avoid it happening).

Yes i'm a p plater and no i don't have a lot of experience driving powerful cars. I have driven my fathers turbo diesel (Inb4 doesnt count as turbo). I was careful in it and slowly and gradually eased the throttle on exiting the first street. I was doing about 25-30kms p/h. Turbo kicked in (because its diesel and probably cause its a shitty auto) when i wasnt expecting it. Nothing happened, because i am a normal young driver and was treading carefully with a car i'd never driven before. I learnt from what happened and know how to drive that car now. Everyone is right, it is about experience...But if they government never lets us 'experience' anything, what has changed 4 years after we start learning?

Another point here is: its unlikely that a petrol turbo (unless i stay in a low gear) is going to spool up mid corner because they generally need higher revs than diesels...So tell me why, if your point is that turbo is dangerous in odd situations, is it legal for me to drive the car that spools up mid corner as opposed to one that (unless thrashed) Doesnt?

Perhaps they should introduce training for Learners on driving different types of cars so that they know what to expect when they try to overtake in a 1.4L Barina or what to expect when they floor a turbo diesel ute around a corner.

Firstly, the government just want you to learn to drive before they let you drive powerful cars. This is easy to understand and makes sense.

Secondly, people as you said (unless thrashed).. People are more likely to try to thrash a performance car than a turbo diesel.

This thread is really the perfect example of flogging a dead horse.

Why is it so hard to understand that you need to learn to drive an average car, before you can drive performance vehicles.

Is simpwn really trying to compare his dads Turbo diesel 4wd to a high performance Turbo car?? About the only similarity is the Turbo part :o

I agree your first point, but they need to go about it a different way.
I dont believe people who spend so much money on their performance car would write-off so much money spent by thrashing it.

I (we?) understand that they want us to learn to drive first, but do they expect us to miraculously know how to drive a turbo'd car once we 'do our time'?
Why is there an exception if youre 26, even with equal or less experience driving?
Being older is not a ticket to knowing how to handle a car.
Why can I drive a squirrelly, jumpy sangyong but not a Mazda MPS?

If they are SO concerned about our driver safety they would put the effort in and take a leaf from some European countries book and teach us properly.
OH WAIT i forgot all they care about is getting money from us!

Ok so all P platers should be banned from driving HIPO cars regardless of their situation.

But you have lost your license in a turbo'd import and I bet you think you still should be allowed to continue driving it, guess what your just as bad as the P platers that you jump on at every opportunity.

Lets send you on a training course to learn how to control a high powered vehicle because you clearly aren't responsible enough to drive it.

ive never been fined or defected in a turbo import.

Actually it does. There's quite a bit of research in medical journals, that I flick though at work regularly, that states that once you reach the age of (approximately) 25 your brain is less likely to take risks than you would in your teenage years. Numerous tests have been repeated over the past few decades and is most dominant in Caucasian males more so than females.

Just because they are proven to take less risks doesn't mean they know how to drive a powerful car, nor does it mean that they are more skilled at driving than someone younger.

True. But the point is, if given something of that stature they are less likely to do something that will involve causing themselves harm. Whereas given someone in a sub 25 age, they are slightly more likely.

You can be such a dog you know that?

I find you very ignorant and disagree with alot of your opinions but I respect how you're willing to say things things even when the majority disagrees with you.

Just because you strongly believe something doesn't mean it's right and everybody else;s opinion is wrong.
I listen to everybody's opinion and point of view instead of getting mad and calling them names because considering how other people see things can actually expand the way you see things.

I never go insulting you. Getting mad at the way other people see things is the kind of mentality that starts wars.

You are also right, but like i said before...just because one kid does silly things doesnt mean every young driver is like that.
Maybe if they showed young drivers what will happen to a car when driven incorrectly and what will happen in different kinds of cars, young drivers would understand and know what can happen and know not to push the limits.
