G'day guy's I'm trying to look for maybe a cheaper option than cutting down my salisbury to suit my needs.

I have mini tubbed rear end in the VH, looking to fit some 275/60R15 under the rear end but considering i only have standard length salisbury diff, wheel offset is an issue. I'm wanting quite a bit of dish on the rear wheels.. So the questions are as such --

  • Are the borg warner's any shorter than the salisbury??
  • How much would it cost to have my axles and diff housing cut down to say 1.5" to 2" shorter either side??
  • Will I run into any other problems with cutting that much off?? ie. diff mounts trailing arm mounts ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

vl diffs are wider by 20mm

your diff should be 1380mm from backing plate to backing plate vl borgwarners are 1400mm

if you speak to scott at S n L at Browns Plains he will tell you what is needed. I got a price off him to cut down a borgwarner & it was $350.
Thats just for the housing.

Any shorter than standard would require a coilover type system wouldn't it ??

I just gave Auto Tech Toowoomba a call about getting a borg warner cut down 1.5" each side with a coil over type deal through the boot, with me supplying diff, and they are supplying the coilovers etc.. they quoted me $2450 all up with mod plate.

Is that a fair price?? Can i get it done cheaper elsewhere??

In a situation like this mate, I would be thinking more about quality of the workmanship and end result more than how "cheap" you can get it done.

When it comes to Fabrication work, cheap can also mean nasty and unsafe (unless you are tight with a good fabricator)

If it was me i'd be talking to the people that have a good reputation in the industry, S&L have been around for a long time so that has to say something.

Full Race Fabrications is another mob you could try.........

OzRods are 2 doors up from my office and they have just completed a tubbed and 4 linked VK brock, workmanship was awesome and easily fit a set of 10" rims under the ass

Cheers mate, i know $$$$ = quality. I know not to go down to local mechanic shop and pay $1000 for a setup. I've only been getting quotes from reputable places but i thought around $1800-2000 would have been a fair price.
