I'm liking the idea, but they are too dark, cant see what im looking at!

Green toy on the green grass does make it very hard to see

Perhaps I went a little too much on the dark in the 'Dark and forgotten', then again, I wanted to shoot the backyard at night so I can't really make them too bright.

Last of the 'dead pets' thing. I'm going to do a more studio feel to them soon before they get tossed, white & black backgrounds, rim lights etc..

My niec's 3rd birthday part was last night. Here is my nephew with his new Nerf gun. Yep, his other(side) Aunty got the older brother and sister a present each as well as the birthday girl (WTF?!) and it was a realistic Nerg shotgun, fun for us oldies with harmless foam darts, fucking scary in the hands of 4 year olds!

Yeah that was just a reflection from the softbox off the door.. I kinda liked it but so I added to it with the highpass.

So I was watching this cheap-ass set of baby (180w) AC strobes on ebay, $53 4 hours ago, they went from $93 to $212.50 in a total of ten seconds, Irritated I bought a 300w p/s monoblock.. Ooh! It's beauty dish time! *claps and dances*.

So I did my first shoot for someone that wasn't my idea

i.e. My first 'gig'..

and I got paid ;D

Congrats Nick! And welcome to the Strobe world! Your going to love the *pop* they make when they are fired!

Nick_
Post #1001

Hmm dunno if it'll be any different to my speedlites.. It's just a turd strobe but I'm still keen. Also get an extra set of bulbs for it just in case.

So here's a shot from the other day. As you can imagine, an un-ironed background (got it the day before from Spotlight) is a BITCH to work with. They wanted a heavy vignette so that certainly played in my favour ;D

And another. The 'client' was after a fairly heavy 'light and cross-processed' shotgun to every outside shot we did.

I've noticed I tend to go towards the blues when I 'cross process' with curves..

Bit of a glow around the dog @ 5.46 - intentional? Coincidence I went to spotlight yesterday to look for some cheap light colored throw pillows for a scene....ended up walking out with no pillows but a giant black backdrop.

lol.

Nick_
Post #1005

Yeah it's from the vignette, I tried to make it a little 'drawing in' by clearing a halo around the head. Did it work?

Hoon
Post #1006

Yea it worked. I suppose on a dark dog with a dark background you need to find a way to seperate without over doing it. I just see the halo around the body area. Head is fine.

but all it talks about is film?? mr. exif says he used a 40d????

Nick_
Post #1011

I guess it's really more an emulation these days. Cross processing is where you process slide film in transparency solution and visa verca to give wonderful colours etc..

I just use curves RGB to do it. I really should get into actions for a 'standard' b&w or C-P look but I did about 20 frames all toned by eye because whitebalance effects it too. Maybe a little desat/sat on some too to help it along.

Here's a little lol-burger for you.

Today our puppy got his first pigs ear, sure it's almost the same size as him but that's not what I find amusing..

Now just waiting on that beauty-dish. It comes with a sock & grid too!! Glad I bought the extra modeling & flash bulbs when I did, I have no money left now :) Also had to whip up a different sync cord as this flash is 3.5mm, Quick! To the workshop!
