it was originally all the Bozo cars in Japan used to do it as a sign of how low their cars were, they are the handles you hold onto on the trains that hang from the ceiling and cause they are all the same length it's an easy recogniser of how low the car sits between a few of the same bodied cars, now its bit of a fan boy thing i reckon

I don't know whats worse, a hang ring or the way they've mounted and plumbed up the oil coolers. Why not leave everything else half done also and be jdm as fuck

frenchie
Post #2568

well its likely your car has neither because clearly you would loose sleep over it.

i love front mounted oil coolers personally.

mate, xe,xd,xf falcons were the biggest flop ever, im sorry but its true, slab sided, bad design, dont handle, shit engine and shit looks! i know my cars trust me ive got an old val and dads got old xw falcons but they are the worst model NO DOUBT. A 180B is older and has a far more superior suspension design than any old falcon, id own a decent one. If i had to own either id pick the datsun

Lol, well, I feel a lot better now that I have this useful piece of advice from someone who "knows their cars", hahaha. In that case you would know that the XD won Bathurst in 1982 and the XE won in 1983 (as well as many other important races), and the 180b won...oh thats right, it didnt even have enough power to get up the bloody hill, lol! In fact, the Falcons won enough races to win the Australian Touring Car Championship both those years! Luckily, you dont need a car that handles well to win any of those races :P As for being the "biggest flop ever", over 100,000 XD's were sold in 82, 130,000 XE's in 83, and 750,000 XFs during its 4 year model run!! That is 930,000 people who were wrong! Wow, silly buggers, they should have asked you first before they wasted their money because "you know your cars"!
Yes, its slab sided but so are most 80s designed cars, steel presses of the day were limited in the shapes they could efficiently press out, its typical of the era and I happen to like that
As for a shit engine, its the same bloody engine thats in your dads XW and has powered Falcons, GT40s, Mustangs, Torinos and many other classic Fords for generations! Its an old design, and thats why I like it!
I like Supras too, in fact, I have 2 of them in my shop that Im working on right now! Wouldnt own one though, cause they have no soul!
I have owned an R32 GTR Godzilla and that old car would whip my old Falcon 10 different ways, but I still prefer my V8 :bowrofl:
As for the 180B, it was a shit car when it came out, and its a shit car now, in fact, Im surprised any have survived, lol!Actually, Im surprised you didnt know that, because, as you said, "you know your cars!"
My Grandmother used to drive one to church on Sunday and it was good for about 120ks flat out! Exciting stuff! Id own a decent one too, problem is, they didnt make a decent one :(
Tell you what though, Ill happily meet you somewhere in my poor handling Falcon with the shit motor, and race your 180b for pink slips! You can even throw in some corners if you like
Oh, and by the way, this is all just "my opinion". The great thing about this country is that you are free to have a different one :P Just sayin....

Yep, its ancient, cause its a 30 year old car! Makes sense really  It was a good enough design to get 2 Bathurst wins though :P

ive owned a few chookas and i dont mind them they are ok for what they are; a cheap to mass produce australian car built to australian standards for australian ppl and australian roads
altho every single one ive owned was a dissapointment, but a 180b is simply a much better car build quality and design wise.
For instance 180b has irs how long did it take ford to bring that in ?

Well no actually. A car shaped like an XD and XE falcon went around the Bathurst track but they were as similar to a showroom falcon as a balloon to a hand grenade - same shape different results when appropriately applied. No-one can argue that Bathurst car bears any relation other than shape to showroom cars. End. Of. Story.

Stock XE-XF falcons handle like shit. Its common knowledge. They are comfortable, they have a engine with good torque but they do not handle. Again racing cars bear no relation to showroom cars. Also 930,000 people can be wrong. Its called argumentum ad populum, look it up. Politicians and cereal commercials love it.

Oh and yes I have owned about three of them.

I like 'em too. The 80-ness is cool. I'd have a V8 again.

Look, the Datsun as dirty and boring as it is did have more advanced suspension than the falcon. It also has a distinguished rallying and track history, far beyond a single race series in one country. Again though, race cars have NOTHING to do with showroom cars. The falcon will definitely out power the 180. However I think dollar per dollar spent its pretty even.

That said as well is chalk and cheese theres no comparison. Is my cheese grater or my dildo better at carving wood?

I like 180B's, I like falcons. I have an XB GT, however all this dick-swinging is just dumb, as is the justification for the dick-swinging. Everyone just put it back in your pants.

Not sure they have on a lot of models, lol! Utes and wagons are still solid axles! Dont care, it just makes em easier to fix, haha!
Thing is, Im so old, I was around when the 180b was new, and it was considered a piece of shit then!! I would seriously argue the point about build quality, most of them rusted away years ago because the panels are so thin!! Any that survived still have cheap plastics that rattle and squeek, crap seats, bad handling (despite the IRS and what others would have you believe), and NO POWER!
Sorry dude, i just dont like 4 cylinder cars, I dont see the point in working so hard to make them go any good when you can just buy something with a bigger more powerful engine! ive never owned one and doubt I ever will :P

KeeWee Kustoms

Chivsding, the race cars of the 80s were not actually that dissimilar to the showroom cars actually, especially compared to todays cars!
The race cars were much lighter, had better suspension but not much more power than a stock V8 cause they werent allowed to modify the engines and brakes much. So one can argue that there is a showroom resemblence!
as for your "argumentum ad populum" argument, I dont need to look it up, I know what it means, I spent 18 years as an ad writer! In this case, its not actually true, its simplier than that. It was more a case of not having many choices in 1982/84! In those days, in Oz, you were either a Ford man, a Holden Man or a bloody poofter who bought Jap crap, lol! I know, cause I was there!
and it was a fact of the times.
I do agree with one thing you have said though, we are not exactly comparing apples with apples here :P
I should prolly stop stirring things up now, I just get annoyed when people make statements like "trust me, I know cars", as if they are some kind of authority on all things automotive, and their opinion is the only one that matters! I will argue with that shit all day, lol!
