all you need is some bolts/nuts, washers, some lengths of some-what bendable metal with holes in it (from bunnings) and just fiddle until you find a place to bolt everything upto something stiff. Can be tricky depending on what car you have but generally you would have the holes left over from removing your standard airbox that you can use.

do u find this secured?

You can actually buy a bracket from Autobarn that hooks around the hose clamp.

Then all you have to do is bolt it to the car.

This being said, what kind of car and what sort of set up are you running?

A pod filter just sitting there generally won't make any difference, but if you do get an Intake box made up it can help force colder air into the filter.

There are companies that make them, or I'd assume any fabrication shop can whip one up for you.

the problemb with that isn't so much the pod filter but the two breathers you'll defected for those.

not to mention hot air intake!. get some pipe run it to the front of the car plumb those breathers into it and secure the filter somewhere it's going to get cool air

Khubner, show me where it states that pod filter must be secured....

I had a plastic one that i purchased from eBay for around the 100 dollar mark. I don't use it though. My pod filter is just secured with a strap from autobarn and the police/ traffic branch have never defected me for it.

Actually I'll be looking at getting a custom perspex air-box with a cold air pipe running from the underneath of it to one of the holes in the front bumper, can anyone recommend someone?

Hmm, is it 100% compulsory to have it secured? Would like to find out, if so I have a job to do tomorrow smile.gif

You might not need a box to cover the filter, but it's always good to keep the hot air from the engine away from the intake.

The intake on the EJ20 although good in theory (Because you have filter then throttle body and no piping inbetween), would actually be worse then the stock air box in practice.

Unless you are running a WRX bonnet scoop I would probably go back to the stock airbox with a decent panel filter.

check eBay if your car is a common model, you can get pod filter enclosures pretty easily... maybe around $100-150.

It's usually some acrylic or similar

If the car is registered in QLD, can we drive down to NSW with no filter box, legally?

As much as I really, really don't like to agree with Khubner...

From the Transport Operations (Road Use Management - Vehicle Standards & Safety) Regulation '10
QUOTE
Section 5
(3) Without limiting subsection (1)(a)(v), optional equipment fitted to a vehicle is taken to comply with the requirements of the vehicle standards only if -
(a) if the vehicle standards impose a requirement for fitting the optional equipment to the vehicle - the equipment is fitted as required by the standards; or
(b) otherwise - the optional equipment is fitted securely to the vehicle.

That's the latest version of the vehicle safety standards regulation too btw. Released September 1st.

And re: the air box, if you don't have some form of heat shield, the pod is going to make you lose power from drawing in hot air. So it's a good idea regardless.

So by secure, that can be the hole clamp holding it to the pipe / throttle body.

There is nothing that states it has to be a metal strap / can't be a zip tie.

yes iirc;
from personal experience, got done in redcliffe for pod filter (amongst other silly defects - 'bald' tires, for three day old RE55S) and after bringing in a copy of the legislation with me the judge cleared me of all defects. but i guess cops will still do you for it sad.gif

Getting fined for something incorrectly by a police office does not make it a law.

If the cop want it enclosed just slam the bonnet shut .................... that pretty much encloses it!!!!

By the way not being serious, but if its not an offence call them on it.....politely though!!!!
