Hey all,

I was thinking about getting a 2" body lift for my single cab hilux..

I have heard of a few problems arising from body lifts ...

What are your thoughts ?

Needs to be engineered.
If you land hard on the rear end, you can possible put the block through the floor.

2" you wont need to extend any lines as such ie: hoses into fire wall. But be sure to lift your front and rear bars to suit the lift and also the fuel tank.

dude,, front bar. you know like a bullbar if u have one. looks silly if u dont raise them too.

I would say that you should only do it if you really need to ey. Like if you were putting big tires on and they scrub. There is no advantage to it off road it will only make it more top heavy and more likely to roll.

Dont know about the tank but. I thought they were fixed to the chassis and body lift has no affect. I may be wrong though. Maybe he means you have to extend the fuel filler hose.

So just have a think about it first.

I would say if you had a syleside tray the fuel hose would need to be extended if you left the fuel tank.

dont do it, hilux's are pretty high stock aye, well mine is, i think it would roll sooo easy if you lifted it. You shouldnt be in the mind frame that it will look "cool" lifted. get into a mind frame where you wanna make it a better 4x4, try a front locker, wider tyres etc,

A 2" body lift is nothing, it won't make it that much more prone to rolling you will just need to pick your lines carefully and adjust your on road driving habits. You would only go a body lift if you have IFS and your having trouble getting bigger tires on. Have you done suspension lift??

Miller 197

Yeah it has a 2.5" suspension lift in it already.

do it there ok if you want it to look big.. shouldnt make it that much top heavy . when you do it lift you motor and gear box up so it doesnt hang so so low ./

Ryan.d you are a fuck head.

There's nothing really wrong with doing a body lift as long as it's done right. I haven't done any hiluxs, mainly patrols, so you might need to get on to a 4x4 forum like outerlimits.com or search for a hilux forum. You may have to either lift the radiator or remove the fan shroud, lengthen fuel lines between the body and chassis, cut the body around the shifters ect. You will have to lift the bull bar or bumpers as there will be a gap between it and the body that looks a bit stupid. lol.
If you use poly urethane blocks they need to have crush tubes in them, you could also use aluminum or steel blocks.
What ever you do use make sure they are the same size if not a bit bigger than the standard body mounts, If they are smaller then the body mount is more prone to crack.
You will also need longer HIGH tensile bolts with lock nuts, flat washers and spring washers. I like the poly blocks myself, i'v seen the alloy blocks break body mounts because they don't have any give. But each to their own..
As with It being top heavy it's a better option than doing a spring lift, as it leaves the heavier object ie. your engine, gearbox, transfer and fuel tank down low for a lower center of gravity, while lifting the panel work away from big tires and damaging obsticals out bush.
Any body lift has to be blue plated by an engineer, and it would probably be best to buy a kit and get him to look at it b4 you install it. As said b4 you will have to adjust your driving habits due to it being higher.

Thanks for the good advice, But where does one go to get them approved by an engineer ? do you just take it down to main roads or something ?

What about if you dont have a bullbar, Like you just have the bumper bars on it ... do they need to be raised ??
If so how do people usually raise them ?

that's not quite right. the approved persons scheme (mod plate) doesn't cover body lifts. you have to complete a Modification Application Form detailling all the modifications you intentd to make, all dimensions and materials used and wait for approval before you do the work.

I was just talking to Chris Hollingworth and he says it'll have to be taken over the pits at pineapple st. to be fully approved, and just make sure the rest of the car is all good or they'll pick you up on anything else while it's there.

As for lifting the bumper some people make new mounts up, or sometimes you can get away with unbolting the bar lifting it up to the right spot and re-drilling the holes in the mount so it bolts back onto the original spot on the chassis. Or another thing is leave the mount bolted to the chassis cut between the bumper and the bolts, lift the bumper up then weld a piece of steel into the gap.

engineer you get yellow pages and then you go down and see them and talk to them about it. All my mates have 2 inch body lifts in their luxs they havnt ever had a problem with them they dont feel top heavy at all and i can say that because if driven them in the bush i think its a good idea if you wanna do a spring lift too but if your not gunna go 4x4 or stick bigger wheels on then dont bother

Try superior engineering at nerangba , do yourself a favour and go buy a custom 4x4 magazine, and join a few 4x4 forums.

you can make your own kit for next to nothing..i have 2" in my hilux and have never had any trouble with it..i didnt fit mine, i bought it with it..but from what ive heard you will have to extend the fuel filler hose, and extend the gearstick levers..just a couple of things being overlooked
