 Older Rims Onto Ve Commodore - Can it be done?

I have a VE SS which I am looking for some stockie rims for 17" and under in size.
Can any1 tell me if older commodore models steelies or alloys will fit my car?

Yes they will.

Fitting VE rims onto and older model requires the centre to be machined out however.

But since you are going pre VE onto a VE you will be fine.

Keeping in mind this is depending on how big your brakes are...

Your probably better off ringing a tyre shop and finding out. Surely if the VE has smaller hubs then earlier models it will mean the wheels wont be on right as there's a gap?

u cant go smaller then a 17 an i think u may have to drill the stud holes out bigger as ve's have larger wheel studs. and you can buy a spacer that fits over the hub so they fit properly

Thanks. Not really too keen on running a spacer, might keep looking for some VE 17's for sale, seem to be a bit rare tho.

16" is minimum size for a VE(Omega run 16" steelies with some breathing room around the caliper

You dont need spacers, just a 2mm thick hubcentric ring, which any machine shop could make up for you OR machine the pre-VE commodore wheels bigger and fit an Ford hubcentric ring etc)

Stock SS brakes will clear 90% of pre-VE wheels

This is a little unclear to me, are you saying run a steel rim and just make up a hubcentric ring? What is the deal with a Ford ring?

Not really interested in runnning a 16" rim as the tires are too expensive to just do skids on, easies to get cheaper 17 tires.

I was only pointing out that you can fit a 16" rim if required.

You can machine the pre-VE wheels, so they have a bigger centre bore which means you can fit a hubcentric ring(also known as a locating ring) which locks the wheel onto the centre of the hub. The Pre-VE wheels are bigger than the VE centre already, but if you go bigger than a normal pre-VE wheel then you can fit an off the shelf Ford hubcentric ring smile.gif
