I'm sure this sounds like an entirely stupid question, but hang in with me..........

I was talking to an insurance company recently, and was talking about engine modifications with the person on the phone. I asked about the potential ramifications of certain modifications on the validity of my insurance policy, and the topic of nitrous oxide came up (brought up by them, not me). The use of "nos" isn't something I'm interested in, but the way that I understood what I was told, is that they will continue to insure a vehicle using a nitrous oxide system.

I'm aware that it is illegal in Queensland (to a point where you can't even have the lines in the car, IIRC).....is this different in other states? Will NSW/Vic/SA allow you to run nitrous systems in street registered cars?

You can have the system in the car, just can't have the bottle attached really.

nitrous oxide is illegal in all states and territories in Australia as its effects have not been tested regarding engine emission outputs

Incorrect. I recall reading the legislation "The fitting of ANY nitrous oxide equipment is illegal". This would cover foggers, solenoids and lines.

Well this was definately True in QLD anyway.

I do believe he ased for NSW

In nsw, you can have the whole lot fitted as long as the bottle is not connected to the car, it can only be classed as "load" and is not effecting the vehicles emmision system, thus legal, i know this is true in NSW, this does NOT apply for QLD or any other state.

This.

NSW actually recognises that some people's street cars do use it on the track legitimately (or as a wanky show mod) and permit it to be fitted, provided it can't be used on the street (hence disconnected bottle).

Thankyou. I asked for NSW; I'm aware of the QLD laws.

Brilliant....thanks for the answers.

This leads me to another question, Which Twincam16 may have already answered.......Am I to understand that the use of, or fitting of equipment for use of nitrous oxide in Victoria is still illegal?

I dont know dude, i'm only going by a letter that i saw with my own eyes from the NSW RTA, would hate to tell you something and have you get raped more than a new female user in off topic.

Contact vic roads and ask them, that will be your best bet, then if they tell you its ok, get them to fax you a copy. You will need it.

Hoon did back in 2003? i think it was, bottle was not hooked up, classed as a major defect and the XE was towed from the espy.

It seems most of the companies are getting sneaky at how they produce kits now days anyways. Seen some pictures of one from the states, nitrous line was run next to the fuel line inside a bigger braided line. So really it looked like one line..

Fancy fuel rail had 2 inlets as if it was made for the dual line etc etc. And it wouldn't be that hard to hide a bottle.

It's very easy to hide nitrous.

Thanks. As I said, I've got no interest in putting a nitrous system in the car, I was just wondering for curiosity's sake.

Read my original post. I'm aware of the QLD laws; I'm asking about NSW and Victoria.
