hello

whats the difference between a 03-06 lancer vrx and say a ch es

they both look the same mechanically is just aprons skirts etc etc.

and why does every one think lancers are shit. Ive spoken to mechanics and they say that they are a reliable car.

ive scanned through the forums and there are comments like

"i beat a lancer with my skateboard and it only had one wheel"

or

" -my car got keyed

-was it at a lancer meet? "

is it better to look for an earlier model 1.8 or 2.0 or 2.4

i was reading somewhere that the cvt on the 2.4s are deceptive because they are alot more smoother when accelrating.

and if lancers are so shit should i get something else for under 14k and if so what?

They are just a pretty basic car, i'm sure they are fine if you plan on leaving it stock. But there are better base cars if you are after performace. Think S13/14 or something from the Honda twincam vtec range if you are under the new P laws.

you haven't been around here long enough to cotton on to the fact that people like to bag out other makes and models of car to that which they personally own, just for shits and giggles.

Ok, the facts.

It wasn't until 2001/2002 (from memory, around that sort of period) that lancers ever got rear disk brakes! That is just pathetic for a modern car.

Put on top of that, mediocre build quality inside and a thirsty motor in the 2.4L variants. That said, mechanically the gearbox and motor are both just about bulletproof.

The stigmata of lancers is because of the high number of people who buy them and spend a fortune doing what most here consider distasteful modifications to them.

Personally, if I had $14k to spent on a simple 4cyl, 4 door car I'd be trying to find a cheap Mazda 3.

Nothings wrong with them. If you like it get it, it will be a good reliable car- just not the fastest... still fast enough. If your after speed go honda if your heart is set on a 4 banger

lol ive got a 07 ch es and have to dissagree with you on both those points. the build quality in my lacer was one of the things that attractted me to it, leather and alcantra seats, Vinal/leather dash and steering wheel and so far nothin has broken/ come loose and started to rattle.

Thirsty? mine is the 2.4L mivec and im continually getting 7-8L per 100kms out of a tank,(albeeit driving smoothly) and this is out of a car that i ran down the quater at 15.3 seconds with just a cat back exhaust.

in my opinion mate if you can, go for the ch es 2.4L they have alot more go than people seem to realise, are reliable, plenty of mods for them, cheap on fuel.

the difference between the VRX and ES varients are the VRX had " Lowered suspension, sounds system, Ground affects body kit, and larger wheels. but otherwise the same car.

just my opinion.
