ok i heard a rumor from a few of my mates and im kinda hoping its a myth,
the story is a guy had a fmic, he had it mod plated and everything, but the cops still defected him as they felt it was ' not securely mounted'
i thought if you had a mod plate you were safe? if they can over rule a mod plate doesnt that make the system redundant?
i just wanna know if i should waste my time getting mod plates if they dont mean a thing?
like i said i hope its a myth

Well getting a mod plate is the best way to go. But if they think you have modified it in any way since the inspection, then surely they can still defect you for it.

The cops can surely rule over a mod plate.

the mod plate covers the modification..... YOU are responsible for the maintenance of the vehicle and ensuring everything is properly mounted and secured etc.

Same with getting a roadworthy for example (providing its a legit one). the RWC says everything is in fine working condition AT THE TIME OF INSPECTION....... if three months later... after you have been driving it around.... you get done for bald tyres, indicators, and lights not working, or some shit, and cop a defect..... you cant say "Oh but i had a rwc certificate done a while ago, they said it was fine".

First and foremost:
There is NO mod plate code for a front mount.
So there goes that story.

But a copper can defect for something that's plated. It is then up to you to prove that what was defected is in fact legal, and dispute the defect.
Police can't know everything, so they're going to get it wrong every now and then.
But other times they'll catch out dodgy kents with 'mod plates'.

There is no code for front mount intercooler because it is on almost every freaking car these days.
It's like requiring a mod plate for a sunroof!

Cop will book you when they feel like it. So make sure that your intercooler is concealed in the bumper.
I got booked for an almost worn re55s semi slicks because it didn't look legal sad.gif

All mod plated? You had a mod plate for the fact that you don't have a tyre placard on your car?

LOL

The thing is, a mod plate doesn't instantly make you immune to an anal session with an officer. Alot of people get things mod plated, then change it after that, then expect not to get done for it if a cop actually knows what he's looking at/for. squint.gif

Hmm i was told by a copper if i had cut into the car to fit my FMIC they could take it off the road.

SkiDMaN
Post #24

i think its more the holes u cut that need mod plating... not the actual cooler itself. more of a structural thing

At the end of the day you will always loose against the badge.
They r right u r wrong, and if u argue u might just get another ticket.
If your car looks modified and u drive and hang out after dark, they will fine you.

if you're changing the structural integrity of the vehicle, then yes. same as cutting out your rear parcel shelf to fit speakers. i know of people who've been given an unroadworthy certificate for that as well

Both very true - A police officer can have your car towed for having cut intercooler piping as well as having to cut holes for your speakers as you are changing the structure as alpharx7 said.

Hmm generalise much?

Last time I got pulled over, which is very rarely, once every few years, was because I had forgotten to pay my rego on my Chaser. Friday night, the cop pulls me over. I step out of the car and stand on the side walk and talk to him and his female partner. She goes away with licence to do check while I talk with the male officer and end up having a conversation and a bit of a laugh. She comes back over, joins in the conversation, tells me my rego has expired, so my 3rd party insurance is also not valid. They tell me to take my car home and not drive it til the rego has been paid.

So I drive home, no ticket, no inspection of my car, nothing. Yet the car is obviously highly modified.
L2havebetterattitudeswhendealingwithpolice

I have 2 mod plates on one of my current cars, and have had 2 other cars in the past with mod plates. 1st one is for a V8 implant into a car that came out as a 6, 2nd one is for the turbo I think, never really bothered to check to be honest. They were done at different times. Never when I have been pulled over have they even bothered to check the paperwork, yet alone even pop the bonnet and look at the mod plates of any of my cars.

1. Undo seat belt.
2. Open door.
3. Step out.
4. Close door.
